Hi
I am 30, i live in France, near Toulouse and i'm a TBS addict. I've been playing the game with a friend for 2 month and decided to join the forums.
I really love the game, the mods and the community are nice too http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...es/biggrin.gif
I've tried almost all nations and i like 3/4 of them but N,E,S magic are my favorites...
Cheers!

Hi everybody!

I'm French too, 36 year old, and I live in Mauritania ("Second Sun" global enchantment is up down here http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...ies/tongue.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/cool.gif)

And I am totally addicted to Dom 3!!! I just hope one day I can have enough free time to give MP a try.

I never got around to introducing myself.

I'm an English Teacher in China. I read the Gamespot review of Dom3 and decided I really liked the sound of it.

I'm more of a modder than a player now though ;]

Re: Introduce yourself! :-)

Holy Freakin Zoinks Batman!! This game rocks like none other. I never was too into turn-based strategy games, until I found this game. I always liked RTS instead, but no longer.

Oh and by the way, I am new to this game, obviously, but it has inspired me to do some serious modding. I used to mod a lot for Dungeon Siege I & II, Oblivion, and a few other dungeon crawlers of the sort, but this is different. It might take some time to get the code memorized, and do all the custom artwork with Corel Paint Shop Pro Photo XI, but I plan to eventually put out an entire series of races, ex. EA, MA, then LA, all with one continual story line. I am thinking something along the lines of Norse mythology, but with a very good twist, and very unique armies.

Oh, and last but not least... Hello all, I am EmOrDoL, I am 21 and live in Lake Tahoe, Cali. It is very nice to meet you all, and I am very excited to be a part of this very active, and very friendly, community.

Welcome to all the new faces. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

For modding stuff, Sombre is probably the person to ask, with quantum_mechani, Endoperez and me the next in line. Spellmodding, DrPraetorius is your guy.

If you need documentation on Dom3 above and beyond what's in the manual, I'm the guy to come to. Gandalf also has a lot of helpful stuff.

Mapmaking is a specialty of mine and particularly Gandalf's, so help in that department is also near at hand.

Hi http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

My name is Latif and I live in rainy Victoria Canada. I'm 37 (good grief!!!) and started playing Dom 2 about a year ago after hearing rave reviews about it on another message board.

Just got Dom 3 in the mail 4 days ago. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif Played the demo a bit a ways back. I have started up a 'DAR' (During Action Report) which you can see in my sig. Might be cool to see some comments on my 'DAR', I started a thread for it in the Multiplayer/AAR forums <a href=http://www.shrapnelcommunity.com/threads/showflat.php?Cat=&Number=510112&page=0&view=collap sed&sb=5&o=&fpart=&vc=#Post510112>here</a> if you like to make any comments on my play, game or just talk about Dom 3!

I'm having fun with the game so far. AI seems not to have changed much from Dom 2 but it's still lots of fun to send the peasants into battle to get slaughtered. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif (I used to love playing Mictlan also. Round up the slaves by the 100's and send them off to get butchered. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif ) Fun to play the armchair emperor and make plans and think about the GLORIOUS FUTURE FOR OUR EMPIRE!!!!

Re: Introduce yourself! :-)

Hi all.

I've actually had Dominions3 since it was released. I pre-ordered it shortly after I heard about it and only a month or so after I had purchased Dominions2 (late find for me!), but I have not really posted before now. Due to some crazy RL stuff, I was unable to really play much Dom3 prior to the last few weeks, and now that I've won a few games (LA Agartha, MA R'leyh, EA Lanka, and EA Yomi so far!), I wanted to say hello to the boards. I've lurked quite a bit up till now.

I'm a 37 year-old guy living in Wisconsin in the US, and have been an avid gamer for years. Due to an emergency move, my old wargame buddies are back in Michigan and I'm stuck over here so finding these games was great for me.

So far I've only played SP games, but I'd like to try an MP game as well. I would consider myself a beginner overall, but have been getting more efficient and better able to handle multi-front AI wars than I was at first.

So far most of my time is with the less human nations, but I do so love my monsters and demons and such. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

Hi

I've played a lot Dominion 2, only SP, and now I want to try Dom3 in MP.

Re: Introduce yourself! :-)

Welcome, all. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Siever, never mind any grammatical mistakes. There are lots of people here for whom English is a second or even a third language, so nobody is going to hold it against you. If your above post is any indication of your average English skills, I know some native speakers who can't manage writing English that well.

So, for a quick rundown on who to ask what specifically, Gandalf Parker for anything related to servers and scripting or maps, Sombre for modding related issues and me for things related to units, weapons, documentation or bug/issues reporting. Of course, that list is by no means exhaustive, there are tons of people here who can drag up the most obscure bits of Dominions lore at the drop of a hat, so ask away and you shall receive.

I hope you enjoy your time here. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Welcome Siever. Your English is good. This is coming from a native English speaker for the past 39 years. I also work as a paralegal and I write legal reports all day. You will do fine.

And you will find that MP Dom 3 is a very fun way to play. Welcome to the community.

Hey there.
I'm an America, aged 28. Professionally I'm a financial systems analyst, and as for Dominions history I tried the Dom2 demo and liked it well enough. I didn't get it at the time because I was intimidated by the micromanagement. I tried the Dom3 demo when it became available (the Dom2 demo was always somewhere in the back of my mind), and most of the things that scared me off weren't in the newer game so I got it.

I only have a minimum of SP experience (an almost magic-less EA Ulm game on Silent Seas, and several previous EA and MA games that I terminated within thirty turns), and I'll happily admit that most of you forum folks have forgotten more about the game than I'm likely to learn any time soon, but it's a fun game and I'm looking forward to being slaughtered in MP (and learning from the experience).

Hello,
I'm 17, almost 18 and live in America. I just started to play and only have some SP experience. My friend and I have played a few hotseat games, but he can't afford Dom3 right now. I love this game so far and can't wait to get into some MP action.

I'm a 20 year old male from Manchester, UK. I'm a computer science grad but thinking of doing my masters in a more business facing subject (I'm too lazy to decide which http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif)

I currently work as a project manager for one of the top 10 pharma companies in the world - I quite like my job but would prefer to be in a different industry sector (i struggle with the big words used in pharma!).

I only just picked up dom 3 after it was recommended by a friend of mine so I thought I'd join the community - I'll mostly be playing SP because of the amount of travel I have to do http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif.

I am Starshine_Monarch, 17 year old High school student (but not for much longer) in Buffalo, New York.

There's not really much interesting to tell about me...I can draw a bit, I can write short fantasy stories, and I love video games and manga.

I've been playing Dominions 2 with my father and younger brother pretty much since it came out and now Dominions 3 as well. I'm not really big on computer games, wargames even less so. I'm totally horrible at Space Empires 4, have never played SE5, and am only fairly decent at Dominions 2 and 3 (though the definition of 'decent' might be subject to debate by some). However, though I might lack some skill as a player, I think Dominions is really a lot of fun.

I'm especially fond of how easy it is to mod the game. I've tried making mods for D2 that include a nation of nature-worshiping werewolves and a human feudal magocracy of general fantasy stock. I've also created what I like to call the "Dominions Sprite Workshop" which should make the creation of generally human-shaped sprites easier for those who aren't so good at it (all it really is is just a .TGA with a humanoid base including sprite bases for a horse and rider). Which reminds me, the next modding project I want to work on is a new MA nation based off of the beginnings and expansion of Islam from 622 AD to around the 700's and sort of the whole general "Arabian Nights" dealie. Unfortunately, I'm gonna need to do a bit more research on the topic as all I've read on it is 20 pages or so in a history textbook 2 years ago. Hm...anyone know where I can find a sprite base for a camel?

Welcome!

I suggest you check out the Arabs and Carthiginians thread on the modding forum. The project seems to be planned out well, but is lacking the sprites, at least.

The Dominions Sprite Workshop sounds great. I suggest you take a look at the thread about a recently discovered method of sprite extraction. That should make it easy to create a small library of basic humanoid types, or perhaps one of different weapons and shields. Also, feel free to add this pair of mage-sprites to your program.

Re: Introduce yourself!! :-)

Hi, guys!

I played dominions 2, and now I'm back! I assume by the fact that no one is playing dominions 2 anymore that dominions 3 is a better game?

Taqwus May 7th, 2007 07:35 PM

Mostly, yes.

The differences are fairly substantial -- eras instead of themes, rebalancing of costs (fortress cost and incomes increased, troop and commander costs less changed ergo cheaper), more differences between national access to magic paths (much more restricted randoms, so it's harder to diversify), more spells being nation-specific, and so forth. AI behavior is similar to before, but it will actually build fortresses now and makes heavier use of national troops. Micromanagement's also improved, with automatic adjustment of taxation (overrideable) based on unrest, and the ability to set mages to monthly-cast site-searching spells and let them be...

There's a point of contention with some arguing that the power of high blesses reduces the number of competitive strategies under certain conditions (notably, cramped maps where blitzing with powerful sacred units are difficult to counter if, say, you've instead piled points onto scales). If it's agreed to be a problem, to a certain degree this can be ameliorated via mods (increasing the effects of scales, for instance, to make it harder to pay for those ultra-blesses).

"An unnatural plague has swept the province killing thousands. In the decaying corpses magic death gems were found. Rumors of the mythical Crown of Darkness has circulated in the province ever since."

sounds like a bad event, or maybe a neutral one (you receive something, but you lose something too)

Lazy_Perfectionist May 19th, 2007 09:56 PM

Re: Introduce yourself!! :-)

Well... sounds like a site to me. I've been accidentally looking at the Dom2 magic site database on the library at http://www.freewebs.com/dominions2/

They have a crown of darkness site, you might try casting Dark Knowledge on the location of that 'random' event or searching with a level 4 death mage. If you frequently see disease spring up in that province, then the Crown of Darkness may be the culprit...

I'm new here too, I looked at earlier dominions releases, but they just had a bit too much of a learning curve and excess of options. With the tutorial included in the demo and reviews mentioning the manual, I bought the game.

Now, you can call me Lazy Perferctionist, Lazy P, LP, or just Paul. Personally, I'm 23, into anime, good food, sailing, video games, will read a good four hundred page novel in say, six hours. I'm in a divine quest to find the best gummi bear candy, and have found the best local ones at Staples, of all places.

My artistic talent isn't so great, but I've frequently used GIMP, Paint.Net, and Photoshop, and a serious critic. I've often provided friends with advice and the perfect online tutorial that explains just what they need. Most of my work, though, is in 80x80, or generally inappropriate for a general audience. I may make some new, cleaner banners and avatars for this site.

I live in Florida, a state which is undergoing some drought conditions, and has recently been on fire in much of the state. With the subtropical depression that blew dry air around for awhile, the entire state was covered in smoke. Maybe I'll make my first multiplayer game a scanned map of Florida, with a special rule- no water mages allowed? Heat scale encouraged? Eh.

Professionally, I work six days a week. Evenings mostly, except on Fridays and Saturdays where I work more regular hours. I'm a tech guy at a telemarketing company thats contracted by the Department of Education. I'm also the guy who has to go through Do Not Call voicemail inbox to take you off the list. A word of advice, I can swallow obnoxious insults, but for goodness sake, follow the directions when asking to be taken off, and leave your number. By the time it gets to me, I have no caller id. If you have the gall to insult me, or rather a defenseless machine, and then leave no information I can use to take you off the list, well then [insert obscene and biologically improbable act here]. We're not the most evil telemarketers, if you wonder. We consolidate student loans and we DON'T take a cut, since we work for the DoE. Many save several thousand dollars.

So, lets try this thematic intro.

LazPer12, Lazy Perfectionist, Paul, the Slothful one, the Thorough god. The tech desk of evil, salvation of sinners, the god of silence who ends the dissonant howls of unwanted demons. Changer of illusions, creator of none. He who always edits his posts is imprisoned in the land of water-once, now aflame.

Re: Introduce yourself!! :-)

Welcome.

The event you guys are discussing does not create Crown of Darkness in the province. It's flavor text, because the site causes disease. It's actually a pretty difficult site to find, only appears in mountains and is rare and lv 4 to boot.

Hey, I just recently bought dominions 3, and after two singleplayer games, would like to see how multiplayer works out. I'm fairly good at most games (For those of you who have played any games by Slitherine, we've probably battled at some point), but have never played one like this online before.

And I'm looking forwards to the chance.

Re: Introduce yourself!! :-)

Salutations to all.

I am, obviously, ArkkiMeisseli. Arkki for short.
According to my calculations, I'm 23, but I'm not betting my head on that. My calculations suck.
And I'm from Finland. It's surprising to see so many of our kind here.

My hobbies include anime, gaming, drawing, reading, writing, pen&amp;paper RPGs, miniature gaming, computer gaming and freaking people out.

I came upon Dominions somewhere during the 2006, when a friend of mine gave me Dominions 2 which he didn't like.
Obviously, the guy is bonkers or something.

So, after playing that for a long while, I decided, earlier last month, to finally mod it a little.
After a little while of learning, I had managed to mod Caelum to include all three clans working somewhat happily together towards world domination.

Then came my copy of Dominions 3 and did the same thing, only better. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/Sick.gif
It was kind of depressing, for a while.

Then I just figured, what the heck, and started planning new mods for Dom3.

I guess that about sums it up for now.

Was looking for a new way to get strategic and tactical (still do some Ageof Wonder 2 SM) gaming fix and came across Dominion 3. Tried the demo and WOW I was hooked!

The layers and depth to this game are like a skyrise onion!

Getting my feet wet in SP and look forward to some MP someday soon.

Greetings, Friends.

I am 48 year old male. I live out in the wooded hills of the Ozarks, in the USA. I am a country doctor. I have been playing board games since the original squared map version of gettysburg. But dont be fooled by my profession or my long term wargamer status... I am barely on speaking terms with these computers. It took me several tries to log in here. I am the kind of guy who would drag you over(if you lived next door) to show me how to 'get this thing to work'.

I played dominions 2 a few times so i am not a total newbster.

I have never been the person to spend much time before a game rehearsing some killer combination of moves. My motto when it comes to gaming is to have fun and just play, although once the game starts i give it alot of thought and try hard to win.

I would like to try MP. In this game one needs to understand all the magics and mechanics to be a great player. i dont understand those things but i want to play anyway. I cheerfully accept my fate whenever it shall fall upon me.

So draft me into a game! or maybe i will just jump into one. I only hope the downloading and modding and whatever isnt so complicated that i can't do it http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif

Hello, I'm 18-year old run-of-the-mill male geek from Finland (I don't like anime thought, ain't that knida odd for a modern geek?).

I got hooked up on Dominions 1, played it for 2 years. I tried to upgrade to Dominions 2, but the Demo wouldn't work on my computer so i had a small break.

Then, this spring I got a new computer and and happened to notice that Dominons 3 was already in sale! Imagine my joy when the demo rolled insanely smoothly on my computer. I said goodbye to my social life and ordered the damned thing. I'm itching to try out MP. People here seem quite mature and from what I've read on MP forums, people seem to even RP a bit when playing! It's simply freaking awesome!

The politics part of the MP also seems intresting. I simply love the Game of Thrones boardgame with its political backstabbing, I'm hoping that MP would be near it.

Anyways, enough ramblings. I gotta check if there's any open games in the MP forum.

Re: Introduce yourself!! :-)

22 Year Old Turkish geek.

I started playing games when I was 4 years old with a Commodore 64 bought by relatives, and used the Turkish Manual to good use, changing the color of cursor, making small colorful animations etc.

At 8 years old, I had an Amiga 500, and played hundreds of games.

At 12 years old, I had my first PC, and again had limitless fun with it.

Computers are my lifeblood. As is the "Internets"...

My first REAL "strategery" game was at 9 years old, K240, a space colonization game. I learned to play it piecemeal piecemeal with a dictionary and its manual. But I succeeded, and managed to create a relatively stable economy in game and killed the first two alien races.

(I played simcity when I was 7 and played it fine enough)

K240 also granted me a basic grasp of English grammar. All Games are truly educational if they are played right and through, with the playing kid trying to learn all the words.

Since then, Strategy games are my beloved games. After all, you manage a colony/city/empire etc...

It is more fun than playing a single unrealistic hero killing hundreds of targets.

Well, until Command and Conquer came by. The damn game got so popular, but it also killed all innovation of RTS genre. Almost every damn RTS game was made in its image, being mere clones, so I lost all interest in new RTS's. I got a fancy on FRP games then, read LotR first, then Dragonlance next, Forgotten Realms all the least. They all improved my English vocabulary immensely,

Now I favor gameplay over graphics, and without further ado, came upon this gemstone of gaming.

Welcome!

The word you were looking for was "assistant director".

I believe that there is an organized, French-speaking fanbase for Dominions. You are welcome to take part in discussions here, but you might also want to check out this place:

There haven't been new posts since May, but someone there can probably direct you to a more active French forum.

hello all

Nods to David Gemmell for my handle. I live in Cowboy Country , Western North Dakota, USA.

Been playing Dom 3 for a few months now, a few solo, a few multi-player games. Tried Dom 2's demo, but never did get it to work right on my old computer....

Anyway, I have a huge interest in History, and military history, and a solid background in Gaming as well. Dom 3 satisfies all three...

Hello everyone,

My name is Nick. I've been playing dominions 2 for some years and upgraded to Dom3 when it was released. I think the improvements are very good and the number of nations is... amazing!!

My favorite nation is EA Pangaea, I like the nature theme very much. When I want a solid &amp; powerful game I choose EA Neifelheim, with W9N6 bless. I also like agartha's theme a lot, because i used to play the Nephilim RPG.

I have little experience with LA nations and multiplayer, because I can't spend even MORE time for Dominions3!!

MoM fan? Welcome. Unfortunately, the last site dedicated to MoM died off a while ago. Though there are a couple of fan remakes and an unofficial rally point pushing for the production of a MoM2.
