Re: Perpetuality - The 60 Player MegaGame (Signup)

I am having trouble w/ the server.

I get to the getting info screen (The first screen after the you give the server port) and it seems to freeze. I wait about 4 mins and I get a Nagot Gick Fel! cannection to server was broken. What is the deal?

I am using 67.66.187.69 15151. Is it my firewall? How long should the wait be on the getting info screen?

Velusion May 16th, 2007 04:13 PM

Re: Perpetuality - The 60 Player MegaGame (Signup)

It probably is your firewall. It should connect in less than 30 seconds (usually less than 10). Opening up port 15151 on the firewall should do it...

If it is a software firewall, as a quick test you could disable it completely and just see if you can connect. if you can then you can fiddle with it more.

If it is a hardware firewall you will have to get into the device and configure it to allow port 15151 access.

Does your ISP have a firewall of their own?
If you have a firewall yourself, try turning it off.

Other matters: I'm willing to enter alliances with peace-loving nations of the North-West.

I also had a freeze when trying to upload the first time. I tried again just now and it worked.

Im getting it also. Maybe something with the paths on the internet

Yes! I got in. It was not my firewall. I have no idea what was going on.

I slipped in also. Sounds like something some of the other big games had. I forget how they fixed it.

Im thinking that my position makes me someones front door. Who ever is behind me in the lower left corner might ally with me. I will try to be a strong wall for they're buildup in return for being able to vulture the remains of their enemies when they finally decide to come out.

I also had to reconnect. The first time I connected it just sat on the wait screen. Re-connecting let me right in.

Its probably just because so many people are connecting and downloading the map...

This is great. First turn not even done and we're at 25 pages. I wonder if this will end up the biggest thread in the multiplayer forums.

I think it will be impossible to win this game without a serious amount of scheming (alliances/NAP/trading etc), but i sure am looking forward to it http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

ROTFL
in case someone doesnt know, R'lyeh (based on Cthulhu) causes madness. Its a common theme in those novels.

Re: Perpetuality - The 60 Player MegaGame (Signup)

also my nation LA r'lyeh causes some madness ...

Re: Perpetuality - The 60 Player MegaGame (Signup)

Whoever allies themselves with LA R'lyeh or LA Ermor should be considered a traitor to all the others.
To consort with such power is to invite doom towards all.

FAJ May 16th, 2007 07:28 PM

Re: Perpetuality - The 60 Player MegaGame (Signup)

How does madness work? Does it only cause insanity in its dominion, or also things adjacent to its dominion? Adjacent to its provinces?

Evilhomer May 16th, 2007 07:32 PM

Re: Perpetuality - The 60 Player MegaGame (Signup)

Only within dominion, and it only matters on your affected commanders. It actually hurt LA r'lyeh more than it's neighboors.

Shovah32 May 16th, 2007 07:33 PM

Re: Perpetuality - The 60 Player MegaGame (Signup)

It causes insanity(up to 50%) in any province under his dominion.

As an added note, the nation of LA Agartha is looking for future buyers of research boosting and earth/death/fire boosting items, PM me for details.

davegg May 16th, 2007 07:36 PM

Re: Perpetuality - The 60 Player MegaGame (Signup)

The purpose of the middle coalition is to protect players in stuck in the middle of the map from being quickly crushed by simultaneous attacks from players on the edges or adjacent to water.

It will be defensive in nature. Members will pledge not to attack each other and to provide mutual support if any other member is attacked.

There are no fees and no newsletter, but if members want to tax and trade for mutual benefit, we should certainly discuss it. We might makeup tshirts, membership cards, group health insurance rates and/or hats should the situation warrant http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif
So far it seems we have:

Jutetrea (what nation?)
MA Pythium
EA Ulm
MA Ulm

Are you feeling the love Evilhomer?

Actually - you guys should really worry about the rush-bless nations before us. LA Ermor and LA R'lyeh take awhile to "mature" - you usually don't have much to worry about them in the early game.

However the uber-bless nations are going to dominate everyone else (including LA Ermor and LA R'lyeh) quickly and completely. They are the ones that will own you before you even get a chance to get started.

Oh indeed. The promised land of seaside vacation, nation of Golden Beaches, MA Agartha is both looking forward to this kind of coalition _and_ ready to accept orders of the same kind as it's later age kin. Thank you. :>

That's a bit like changing your oil while your car is on fire. Preventive maintenance is always a good idea but ignoring the immediate threat of the fire is foolish.

But hey, if someone wants to pick a fight without even trying to be diplomatic please do go ahead and post here - I'll remember to immediately switch to kamikaze mode when we meet http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif.

To all those who can at least discuss peace, you'll find me receptive.

Bah, methinks it would be better to make friends with the rush -bless nations, their edge will fade over time...and in the mean time wouldn't you rather they fight with your mutual neighbor?

I would be amazed if LA Ermor didn't take them for 400. But then... This is my first MP game! (I am very excited. I just hope I'm not the first to go...)

I would also like to thank the many people who worked on the mods and the server and the coordination to create this game. I am looking forward to it.

The peace loving Arcoscephale under Sibylline Guidance (actually without Sibyls so far) would like to offer friendship and mutually beneficial trade agreements for anyone (including LA Ermor, since it's a well known fact, that our God was the cousin with the God of Ermor, but due to bad fortune in a contest he got the throne of Ermor... But we don't consider Ermorians as a menace, and not to mention being undead, since if you are undead you don't need to pay your taxes.) Long story short, good luck and have fun everyone. (And for blessrushers, we are not home... yet)

Offer only good for turn 2 http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

It has had the same "Turn pending" message for hours now. So either there's something amiss or that pending message means that the .trn file has been downloaded but no .2h file has been uploaded.

...so, still waiting...

Even when he turns it in we have no idea how long it will take to process it. We might see it saying that everyone has done they're turn and it might sit on that for hours. Well maybe not the first one but later the turns might take hours.

Im pretty sure that he is running more computer than my server, and I have larger games running. It usually takes half an hour to process. I keep files that record the time and system load at the beginning and end of hosting. Here is one for a 75 nation game.

Re: Perpetuality - The 60 Player MegaGame (Signup)

It only takes a little over five minutes to host a game with 80K units on my system. I would guess the first turn will take about 2 minutes to process.

On the status page - if it says turn pending that means we are waiting on that person to submit their turn.

Honeybadger told me yesterday that he is having computer problems but that he should be able to make the deadline.
