Re: New semi-newbie game!

Just so everyone knows, I plan to set the game back to 48hr turns after the this next one hosts. It was set to 72hrs only to accommodate Hoo's schedule.

So if anyone has objections, now is the time to lodge them.

I will maybe need extension from tomorrow. I am doing 3 day trip to Huashan. I just don't know what weather condition will be so I don't know exactly when I am going. I will do my turn before that so I will probably need 24h extension on one after that. I will PM you when I am sure http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Z - glad to see you are taking the full 72 hours to make the Arcos moves count in this game. For that amount of time, I expect a full comeback a la Urapara.

Re: New semi-newbie game!

I had no idea it is 72 turns until now. I was just doing that turn when reminder comes, heh. I was doing some gem trading via PMs so didn't do the turn just after receiving it.

Lol, we are talking about Construction 8 and Pan has Conjuration 9 already. That couple thousand manikins get a bit better with that.

I guess if someone missed some research work it is a bit too late now http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Alteration 9

And yes, it certainly makes those 550 manikins sieging your capital a bit more effective. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

If you haven't thought about taking action against Pangaea at this point, you might want to think about it now, before his army really gets out of reach. He's pretty far ahead of most of us, even by his own admission.

I count 579 manikins besieging the arcoscephalan capital.

No worries though, I just wasn't sure if you were going to get your turn in before the deadline --

Good luck with all the papers - "paper on advanced stat" that sounds like cruel and unusual punishment!

What price? Aren't you about to take your 2nd enemy capitol? Don't you have Atlantis's home capitol and now Arcos? You're way, way, ahead of everyone else especially since you are outresearching a lot of folks and clearly have an awesome military.

DonCorazon April 23rd, 2008 01:21 PM

Re: New semi-newbie game!

The price is probably about 326 mannikins and 2 vine ogres. Which in terms of % is probably about 1% of the Pangean military / vegetation.

btw, anyone want to tell the story of how an Ocean dwelling nation got knocked out by a Land-based nation so quickly? That has to be a first...

No. Arco took Atlantis. And he just repelled my assault on his capital.

HAD an awesome military. Apparently, my manikin hoarde didn't think it necessary to attack the humongous stack of banish-spamming mages in the back row, instead focusing on a single, albeit unhittable, golem, and were consequently cut to little manikin pieces. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif

Re: New semi-newbie game!

For those unfortunate enough to miss the great Valiant But Ultimately Unsuccessful Storming of the Capital of Arcoscephale, please allow me to explain it's climatic conclusion:

The Acroscephalian army is in full retreat. All that remains is a single Golem, well outfitted, kicking ***, but overwhelmed by the 50 or so remaining manikins. They're slowly, but surely, whittling down his hit points - previously impossible given the "healing light" cascades courtesy of the sybils.

74hp
68hp
...
7hp
3hp
50 turn autorout kicks in...

Pangaean commanders retire from the field, it apparently being too late in the afternoon to continue fighting...

Mindless manikins dissolve...

Arco wins...?

That turn limit's gotta go.

Re: New semi-newbie game!

It took me almost an hour to script that remnants of my army http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif

It would be more interesting if I didnt lose some armies to Utgard in stale turn as I planned to retreat them to capitol.

cleveland:

I have lost Golem with Sickle whose crop is pain [30D gems gathered], nice shield, starshine skullcap, marble armor, boots of quickness etc etc that had over 1500 kills and Heroic Toughness due to 50 turn limit so you have my full support on that.

P.S. Didn't check the turn yet. Heh, mages shouldn't really be able to retreat at all from capitol.

Well, I don't want to spoil it for you, but we both got screwed by the game mechanics in that battle.

I got screwed when my "Attack Rearmost" manikins became fixated on your Golem, and therefore got slaughtered by your priest communion.

You got screwed when your mages retreated after I *finally* word-of-powered your Golem.

I got screwed when my commanders autorouted, despite the fact that your army had a grand total of 3hp.

So at least the referee wasn't playing favorites. I suppose the outcome was fair. And as SSJ pointed out, it was at least a very, very cool battle.

Zeldor April 24th, 2008 10:03 AM

Re: New semi-newbie game!

cleveland:

I knew I will lose that, I just wanted to make as many casualties as I could.

There were some mistakes in my research [which is quite low] and I could have really used Summon Earthpower to kill fatigue. Not enough chaff to protect mages too. I had only Golem as distraction for manikins, but I didn't suspect he would be able to stop many of them.

My communion was really weak, stale turn killed most of my weaker mages that would work as communion slaves.

I aimed for killing your leaders so manikins would just dissolve. Nature and water spells were to slow manikins.

I think I can upload turn here soon so those that missed it can watch it? Or you'd prefer it till the game is finished?

hoo April 24th, 2008 11:02 AM

Re: New semi-newbie game!

Hmm..Seems like even this 'victory' by Arco means that Pan will still take his capitol. Maybe just a turn or 2 later.

So, Arco has atlantis's capitol. Pan will have Arco's captiol. Marignon has CTIS. That the general state of play?

Zeldor April 24th, 2008 11:09 AM

Re: New semi-newbie game!

No, I had to withdraw and move most of my forces. I had conquered most of Atlantis lands and surrounded capitol, but then Utgard attacked so I wasn't able to finish the job. Marignon has 3 capitols now - C'tis and Atlantis. Utgard or Pan will have mine [I have no idea what relations are between them].

I guess stats would be like that:
1. Marignon [3 capitols]
2. Pangaea [huge armies + darkness + nice research]
3. Utgard [many SCs, no real wars, a lot of land, really lot of land]

If Pan takes my capitol I would give them first spot.

Zeldor April 24th, 2008 11:47 AM

Re: New semi-newbie game!

Heh, just watched the battle. Stupid stupid routing system. If I didn't have any elephants there almost all my mages would live. Elephants died fast and they had most of HP so just few more units killed cause entire army to rout. Lost 38! mages when they tried to retreat into enemy territory.

When you play on SP or not on high level you don't notice things like that. But later when you get to know the game things like that are game-breaking :/

I certainly have no objection to people seeing the battle, but turn-posting is a bit of a Pandora's Box.

If I get some time tonight, I'll try to YouTube the battle (unless one of you scry-ers beats me to it).

Same here.

Looks like a llamaserver error, as both seem came with the subject line "New Turn File: Alexandria turn 41"

I'll bet llamabeast can roll the game back to turn 41.

Ugh. Seems like the first turn file sent out was a good one. But if we want to wait to see what he says, let me know and we can pause the game.

Re: New semi-newbie game!

Guys,

The server says we are on turn 41 and the deadline looks correct. The other time I encountered this problem the server actually skipped forwards a turn and so it had to be rolled back. But I think this time it may be fine, since it did not. Let's all send in our turns based on the FIRST turn file we received.

I will still delay the game until I hear back from Llamabeast, unless others have an objection.

Zeldor April 26th, 2008 01:20 PM

Re: New semi-newbie game!

Yeah, it says 41, mail from llamaserver says 41, but you open 42 in the second one. Deadline changed about an hour with 2nd turn sent. But yes, there is a possibility it will accept first turn 41.

Bet the game would look pretty different at turn 41 if we set it back to turn one and replayed to 41 again... interesting thought experiment

Omnirizon could include it in his Stats paper as a case study in stochastic dynamics.

Omnirizon April 26th, 2008 05:32 PM

Re: New semi-newbie game!

actually, some researchers have suggested online gaming as being an interesting arena of study for reasons exactly like that. It is a simulated environment with enough variable but structuring elements in which every action is, in theory, knowable and that we can with relative ease control.

Maybe the up-and-coming generation of sociologists, who have been exposed to online gaming and are familiar and comfortable with it, will utilize something like that.
