I only add my comments here for consideration for a future Team Canada game. Personally I am not interested in playing a game were tech trading is allowed as it adds an insane level of micro management. I would also not really like mines. 5 teamates getting together and adding 500 mines to a warp point just seems cheesy. (and would really bog down the game)

Game Specifications
I’m Trying to be fair here.
This started out as a challenge by the LT preferable to play against one team all from one nation. It evolved into being considered the SEIV Olympics. Within 24 hours a few of the Game Specs were issued by the LT.
To be fair I need to ask the LT if:
1) They are in favor of the SE Olympics concept
2) Prefer to go back to their original challenge to play against a single team from with all players from single nation.

In the case of going with SE Olympics then there may need to be a need to compromise on the Game Specifications
In the case of reverting to the original challenge then you have a greater chance of finding one team to accept on your terms.

In the event you prefer to go with your original challenge then we can start a new thread and pick up where we left off on organizing the SE Olympics with no hard feelings.

If you would like to discuss this privately please write to:
se@windingstream.com
Note: this is not the same address as in my profile.

Thanks

Second thought:
The Olympics are made up of many different types of challenges.
I could see games with and without various elements including possibly the full suite of the Gryphin Convention.
< list later >

I think the SE Olympics (expanding it from the LT challenge) has the most possibilities for fun.

(yeah, I'm commenting though I will follow Geo's lead of helping the USA team by NOT playing)

And, of course, another hand in the pot makes it difficult to stir properly.

But...

A few random suggestions (these are directed toward a worldwide olympic style approach):

 • Smaller teams make for better moving games. I'd suggest 3 at a max and possibly 2. In the case of an odd number of players wishing to represent their country, I suppose a team of 3 or 2 would be workable. Also, this would allow for more countries who can't field a team of 4 or 5 or 6.

 • Geo's comments and suggestions are very worth listening to. A team concept with a solo addition is similar to the real olympics. It would take some more management, of course. In concert with the above comment, it would also allow a person to at least represent their country if they happen to be the only one available.

 • Once a format (what is and is NOT allowed) is decided upon, no variations should be allowed throughout the whole challenge.

 • If it goes olympic "worldwide", then the duration could justify a small webpage. Also, while each person is representing their country, I'd suggest a small banner graphic in each person's "signature" to signify they are a representative in the Olympic match. (I'd be glad to design it for each country using their flag integrated with a simple "splash" if there was enough interest)

Anyway, just some thoughts. The thread has incredible interest and activity so I couldn't keep out of it... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif .

Perhaps we could do two teams of 3 from those countries that can muster the manpower (USA, UK). That way more games could be run simulaneously.

BTW: This is a cool idea:

If it goes olympic "worldwide", then the duration could justify a small webpage. Also, while each person is representing their country, I'd suggest a small banner graphic in each person's "signature" to signify they are a representative in the Olympic match. (I'd be glad to design it for each country using their flag integrated with a simple "splash" if there was enough interest)

I can provide an area at windingsteam.com for a web page.

Without trade & gifts game loses many team management posibilities. Lithuanian team votes that Gifts/Trade must be in game.
I think, why remove from game things that adds more complicated management (more fun).
