Yes, I agree with Fyron. We all have a life outside the game, and can have other things to do, its no ones fault. We may need to consider if it is viable though to have more than 3 people at any session.

Right. But it only takes a minute or two to log on and say, "I won't be able to make it today guys."

Log posted on the site.

Re: Online D&D Gaming

Sorry guys. Fyron is right about the advance notice. My life has been hectic and I have left about 20 mental notes on the forum but not one of them made it from my mind to the keyboard as something always came up at work or home and detoured me for a few minutes.
I have a lot less time now as my current job is more demanding (actually have to work 10 hours a day) and my home life is more demanding (wife leaving on business). I can easily say that the past two weeks and next two weeks are impossible for me to be available.
I'd hate for Grull not to be in the party so if Randall or anyone else wants to use him please do. Sorry for the lack of response, no excuses are good enough there. I am depressed that I can't commit to playing since I love D&D and looked forward to Randall's world. I will try and keep in touch.
Happy adventures,
Cyclop

Re: Online D&D Gaming

In particular I want to point out to Rasorow that i'd like to know what will happen to his character. I have come up with a background story to facilitate his being a cleric in a new world, and I don't wish to take away control of his character by saying "Well in the first session Rasorow did this, then he did this the second session and during the third session he did this"

Rasorow October 14th, 2004 01:31 PM

Re: Online D&D Gaming

Right now Rasorow does not have an internet connection at home which is why I was not on Last night. Sorry about that. At work now but can only steal a couple of minutes while eating.

Basic background is

orphan - no parents
Raised in monestary
befriended by old ranger and worshiper of forest god(dess)
learned undead killed his home village but parents unknown
Hate undead with passion (likely to mix it up as much as turn them)

sorry never got around to writing that...

Gotta go - meeting time. will post when connection working likely sometime this weekend though

Sorry, there is some confusion about the term "Background". What I meant is that alongside the actual campaign I have come up with a sequence of events that coincide where Rasorow comes to terms with being a cleric in a new land.

ok, this is.... wierd.
To sum up my absence, upgrading OpenOffice killed the laptop. I had been assuming (apparently incorrectly) that it was the only functional computer in the house. (As some of you may recall, I was having lots of problems with the desktop). So that's why I've been gone.

However, I tried one Last time to turn on the desktop before I called the computer doctors back, and it started right up!!!! So, uh, I guess it's fixed....... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...s/confused.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/Sick.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...s/confused.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/Sick.gif

well, the computer apparently remembered that it was supposed to be broken, because it's back to it's same old trick of freezing mid-boot. On this plus side, it will at least boot up completely in safe mode (which it wasn't doing before it went to the computer doctor.)

Needless to say, assume I won't be around until you hear from me again. (now if I can just get the computer doctor to answer the phone....)

I have corresponded with Cyclops and he is too busy these days to participate, so Grull won't be taking much part for awhile. I am wondering, do we want to bring in anyone new if they are interested?.

Rasorow November 2nd, 2004 12:05 PM

Re: Online D&D Gaming

Havn't heard from Cyclops or seen any Posts so I dont know about that.

We need more then Draknor as a Tank. Especially since we dont have Wulf's archery any more. We have lost three effective fighters. Grull, Wulf (archer and back-up Melee if absolutely needed but he could protect the mage and rear), and Rasorow (Combat spell caster/healer mainly now. Cannot/should not take to many risks in battle (but he will...) as need to be able to heal others not self afterwards). Thats 75% of our primary fighters.

Sulimo has been great about stepping up but we need another tank. At least that is my view.

First level wizards are dismal spellcasters, and we have only had 1 real battle since 5th level... Not to mention that Narf opted for enhancing spells rather than brute force damaging ones...

Re: Online D&D Gaming

I have just realised that I have an appointment tomorrow. I just recieved a form from the government and wondered if it was the same as the one telling me to come to an appointment this week.

"I wonder if its like that appointment noitice I got Last week" I thought "Oh no, the appointment!"

Its right in the middle of our session and I don't think they would accept the "I have to play D&D" excuse to reschedule. I should have made the connection when I got the letter, sorry. It will perhaps give us the opportunity for another player to turn up.

Rasorow November 4th, 2004 02:11 PM

Re: Online D&D Gaming

Should we make a post somewhere or change the thread name (dont even know if that is possible) to alert people we are looking for another player? Are we actually looking for another player? Narf weighed in but Fyron, Dumbluck, and Douglas have yet to express an opinion.

Well its been 30 minutes and no server. I hope Fyron is ok. I am hesitant to call off the session but theres nothing I can do. I shall investigate how I can make my own server in the future. I discussed it with Fyron but it will involve me working out how to open a hole in my firewall. Anyhow, I'll check back in 10-15 minutes but if nothing develops, sorry. We can wait till next week or reschedule.

Edit:I'm thinking there has been a time change I am unaware of.

BTW... Should we purchase some basic supplies that Draknor might need? I havnt seen Dumbluck for awhile now. I know he's got computer issues and I would hate to have us buy equipment for Draknor instead of Dumbluck but was thinking that maybe we should pick up a couple of items (ale flasks, ale, ale flasks, more ale, some rations, more ale, I think would be among his choices, maybe a healing potion or two as well - Ale flavored of course) if Dumbluck wont be on before we headout again which it seems we will do next session.

I'm afraid I don't understand the reference http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...s/confused.gif. However I did discuss things with Rasorow and have come to the conclusion that I shall have to fit in a haul session or mission. ALthough I have been planning a story driven plot, I can see the need for the party to gain extra funds & items.

Re: Online D&D Gaming

Level/Treasure table in the DMG, page 54 in v3.5. Breifly:

Code:

Level | Expected Wealth Gain | Treasure From Encounters | Treasure Per Character
1st | 900 | 3,999 | 1,000
2nd | 1,800 | 7,998 | 2,000
3rd | 2,700 | 11,997 | 2,999
4th | 3,600 | 15,996 | 3,999
5th | 4,000 | 21,328 | 5,332

Expected Wealth Gain: What the character should gain while reaching his next level
Treasure from encounters: This is the average treasure value from table 3-3: Treasure Values per Encounter multiplied by 13.33 encounters.
Treasure per Character: This is Treasure from Encounters divided by 4, the expected party size. The amounts are rounded to the nearest gold piece.

This goes all the way to 0.8 million for 19th level characters. Obviously, D&D is not an exercise in applied economics. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif

Wether you want to follow this table or not and how closely is up to you.

Additional note:
'Given the hoardes of monsters and heroes running around, any rationally constructed D&D world would be de-populated within approximatly one month for the general population. Survival of higher-level beings is indeterminate. Given that the D&D power level continues to infinity, reality would probably be destroyed at an indefinite point after it's creation, unless beings of all power levels were also created, the result of which cannot be determined.' - Narf.

Re: Online D&D Gaming

hmmm, While I think we are a little under equiped - especially since we are without a tank. I dont think we are that badly off. Remember we also went to 5th level in 1 adventure and if I remember correctly level jumps like that are not allowed.

Also recently purchased party affecting items....

4 healing potions
2(or 3? have to check logs) flasks of Holy Water.
Healer's bag
2 flasks of Oil

some other items were purchased on my side trip but these were the main ones.

douglas November 12th, 2004 01:30 PM

Re: Online D&D Gaming

Actually narf, I think the table you're looking for is the starting gold for higher-level characters on page 34 or 35. A 5th level character should have about 9000 gp worth of cash and equipment.
