Re: Power Outage -> Server Backup but IP Shifted
I am stunned http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/shock.gif with the whole concept of 116 PD.
SOooo expensive but no upkeep and replenishes itself totally if it survives the battle. Everygame I learn something new. The only problem I see is that an opponent can simply avoi it. |
Re: Power Outage -> Server Backup but IP Shifted
But if you hoard fetishes and have a low upkeep you could do it in all your provinces. You also don't castle and have like a mage or two in the battle front and it is devastating. It is unlimitted troops that stop raid armies which a lot of us do. The enemy will then have to dedicate itself to send out very large armies which can then be flamed from the skies, murdering winter, etc.
It is a very interesting strat that I wish we could get more data on its effectiveness. I doubt Panther wants to sacrifice troops for the sake of testing lol. |
Re: Power Outage -> Server Backup but IP Shifted
Turn up.
Oh, and the ultra high PD makes spying all but impossible... not that I would be trying to spy on Marignon or anything. I knew we shouldn't have left that global up so long... |
Re: Power Outage -> Server Backup but IP Shifted
Panther is going to be very mad at me when he watches his battle reports. You should of just let me have the water provinces uncontested because sending that army is going to make it easier for ctis now.
|
Re: Power Outage -> Server Backup but IP Shifted
Ah, the old Panther is getting ripped on all fronts now. At one time, I thought I might win this game. It seems much less likely now. My army is probably half what it was just 3-5 turns ago.
I have never liked late game on Dominions, and now I know why, lol. For whatever reason, the game seems to get far less enjoyable as the turns become so long and tedious. Especially when out of town on vacation... The mudslides and road closures in California are giving us problems. We had no less than three detours today trying to get into Los Angeles. And the scenic Big Sur Highway was closed!!! Talk about disappointment. But, of course, it was far better then having the car buried under mud. We never did make it into LA today. |
Re: Power Outage -> Server Backup but IP Shifted
Hey your battle with me was defending against your invading army which you could of used to try to defend against ctis.
Ctis does look very powerful right now and looks like one of the end game contenders to win. But with him being subbed in a week who knows what will happen to his empire. It looks like Marignon's offensive power was crippled also along with maybe Vanheim, and perhaps you too Panther. I don't have the power to venture onto the land but have incredible sea defense. And we have Arco and Machaka sitting quietly. Game is very interesting right now and can go anywhere with everyone beaten down right now. I would say it would be an easy victory for Deccan but things will probably change because the sub won't have the same plans and/or playstyle that Deccan has been using to make Ctis successful. Just my thoughts on the game. I hope your vacation goes more smoothly Panther. |

A change at the helm
Yes to echo Deccans post. I have now officially taken over Ctis.
He has left a list of tactics and wishes for me that I am more than happy to try and fulfill. Looking forward to getting back into the fray, although I must admit to being a bit overwhelmed at being thrown into a fully developed nation which I havnt guided from the start. Go the North. |

An unbelievable load of #@%$
Can I just say that that battle was the biggest load of bullS@#$ I have ever seen in this game.
I am truly demoralised and ashamed. And to think I was trying to be nice and conservative, not overconfident or brash, HAH. I know its all a learning experience but when your playing with someone elses baby it stings even more, I'm sorry Deccan. I am off to cry. Re: An unbelievable load of #@%$
Yeah, sorry about that, Steerpike.
I had summoned a bunch of mech men just to inflict as much damage upon your army as I could before I lost. I expected to retreat most or all of my mages, which I did (lost only 2). But, just in case, I also took the castle behind you since you had only one avenue of retreat. I did that for the longshot odds in case I might win the battle or at least cause some retreats from your side. Of course, I never expected to actually win the battle. And I truly didn't win. Killed only 24 guys while I lost nearly everything of my own. But it took the worms like 40 turns to get past the mech men through the narrow passage way to the castle interior. And in a few more turns after that, the victorius army turned and ran just when they had it won. I have heard many complaints about the 50 turn battle limit and I can see firsthand why it is an abysimally bad thing indeed. Flying is very important in a castle siege for this reason. Perhaps the oddest thing of all is that Steerpike built that castle as Jontunheim. Had it been one of my Abysian paper towers, the tomb worms would have overrun my meager army so quick it would not have mattered about the 50 turn thing. Oh well, live and learn, I suppose. 190 tomb worms and 10 fully-equipped bane lords just went poof because of the odd battle mechanics in the game. I have had this happen to me before so I now make DARN sure I always have some sure retreat paths from any major fight. I suppose I no longer have to spring my special trap that I had planned against that army. I will always wonder how it would have worked. Maybe I can entice Aku onto land so I can try it against him instead... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif Panther |
Re: An unbelievable load of #@%$
I was like wtf when I saw that battle and it sucks so badly to lose a major army to routing when you had won the battle.
About me going on land we shall see. I like the safety of the water especially since it costs you so much when you attack me in my natural habitat. Ctis lost an army but that is just a setback and Marignon will take some time for you to conquer. You would need to take over both their empires to possibly win this game and that goal is still a long way from becoming a reality. |
Re: An unbelievable load of #@%$
Don't worry about it Steerpike. I had something broadly similar happen to me in Argitoth's MP game just a couple of games ago.
I was playing AE Ermor and was storming Man's capital. I had 500+ Ermorian undead, with a storm grounding all fliers, and the undead took a LONG time getting past the front gate. They managed to kill all of Man's defenders except his pretender, reach the pretender and get in a couple of hits in, and then 50 turns are up, all the commanders run away, and the mindless undead, left leaderless, simply dissolved. Of course, in that game I came back the very next turn, since my commanders survived, and the loss was only freespawn, but it still sucked. |
Re: An unbelievable load of #@%$
Quote:
And during a storm expect AQs no good fliers are available . Storm demons would have done nothing to your mech men and nothing to your lightning immune SCs/Key Mages . Spring hawks are pathetic . Especially a good castle with a narrow gateway like a hill fort can so be really hard to take unless you can use 3 AQs for that job http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/fear.gif . Now you + Ctis are probably about equal with losses cause Ctis lost estimated roughly stuff worth about 500 gems in that fight . I would estimate that this is a 5-10 turn income of Ctis . |
Re: An unbelievable load of #@%$
Vanheim I was like wtf when I saw that one mage attack Abysia. Then I see the turn and you have an army there. For future reference and to anyone else that does not know...magical movement takes place before regular movement. That is why your army and your mage(I assume you did cloud trapeze) did not arrive at the same time and your mage fought alone.
Oh Ctis and Abysia that was a pretty damaging battle the two of you inflicted on each other this round. It wasnt huge armies but your two raid armies took equal damage. |
Re: An unbelievable load of #@%$

Re: An unbelievable load of #@%$
Well Ctis and Abysia took equal casualties in that battle but Abysia did lose one of his Arch Devils which he will have to summon and equip again. I also see a lot of both sides forces and believe Abysia is in for a world of hurt soon by Ctis.
Also I didnt expect Vanheim to try to attack Abysia again after losing his god Last time. In Marignon news I have no idea why Abysia hasnt stormed his castle yet. The army I think has been there like 3 turns. Unless Marignon has gatewayed in troops because he does afterall have astral casters. A lot of mystery with Marignon since he has so much pd you can't spy on his lands so he could have anything up his sleeve. I am curious what happens when the castle is actually stormed. Will Marignon have difficulty fighting off this devil army lead by 3 Arch Devils or will the devils die and Marignon takes over all the empty eastern provinces. I guess we just have to wait and see. In water news I slowly advance on Abysia's claims to the water, fortifying as I go. I wonder if Abysia is worried about me neighboring his capital. I also wonder if the vampire attacks will continue especially since immortality doesnt matter to enslave mind muahahahaha. If I do go on land I will have more spells at my disposal since I am so restricted on what I can cast in the water. I hope this game gets really long term because I have a lot of ideas to try out. |

From what he tells it is a bit similiar to BfME , almost no resource gathering , upgrades for squads etc. . Once it is budget Version i will buy warhammer dawn of war as well http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif . Atm Hoi 2 is surely the next game i will buy . I like BfME really so far for me it is a worthy successor to the now slowly ageing starcraft . Starcraft is imo still though the best RTS . It was far ahead its time when it came out like 5 years ago http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif . Did you ever play Starcraft Krool ? |

I have been playing quite a bit of Warhammer 40K with my friends and its an impressive little title, I love being able to zoom down to ground level and watch the fighting first hand, impractical but fun. Have to agree that Starcraft is one of the best RTS's ever but Warlords Battlecry 2 will always win the very best RTS award for me. And its Australian made, from Melbourne no less. I love reading the bulletins from ANNN (Aku Newbie News Network), keep them up big fella, although there is a little bias its still very informative. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif |
Re: An unbelievable load of #@%$
I rather have 50 air queens than 50 doom horrors.
Warlords Battlecry 2 I dunno. It upset me that lvl 50 was the chr limit...it should of been like 99 or 100. I felt ripped off because the your hero would of been more varied at a higher level bec the first 50 levels werent enough to make him that much different than everyone else but lvl 99 would of made it perfect. |
I don't think Doom Horrors are total rubbish. They fly in storms remember and do damage to everything (unlike Springhawks and Storm Demons).
Hah, I'd rather have 50 slingers than 50 doom horrors http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/smirk.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/smirk.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif Seriously I have only ever summoned one Doom Horror and that was just to see what they were like, I thought they were grouse. In regards to WBC 2. The mere fact that there was a hero that you kept over the course of battles is the thing that made it great, and unless you played experience maps it was a long haul to get to level 50. Warcraft 3 heroes were mere shadows of the WBC heroes and they could only reach 10th level. Also by level 25 to 30 you were a force to be reckoned with that could solo multiple AI. How many Air Queens have you got Aku? |
Re: Game Progress
Just a note on progress. I have been offline for a while and just now partially viewed the latest turn. I saw immediately that I forgot to remove my wimpy army from the seige of the C'tis castle like I had planned to do. So it died. Dumb, dumb, very dumb indeed. Trying to make moves while on vacation is a very rough thing. I will be sort of glad to be getting back home late tonight, though this was a very enjoyable vacation for me and my daughter.
I also had no idea how my immortal Vampire Lord died, not having the opportunity to view any battles. I suppose it was mind controlled, according to the above Posts. Oh well, not having ever played R'lyeh before, I am totally clueless on what that watery race can do. As for the seige of the Marignon castle, I was perplexed too until I realized that I had mostly mindless troops on the seige. They seem to take forever to break down the walls. So I vectored in some real troops (I think I did anyway) to help. Will see how it works. The conquering of former Marignon territory continues unabated now, slowly beating down his PD and taking them one-by-one. But it is so very, very painstaking indeed. I was also quite surprised when Vanheim showed up with yet another army. I simply can't see why he still is sacking his troops across the sea like that. Maybe he is still mad at me for recently eliminating him in another game in which we were both participating. In fact, I am very surprised that C'tis, R'lyeh, and Arco have not simply carved up Vanheim's meager territory since he does not have much army left now with which to defend. As for Aku's comment above, I have the totally opposite opinion from him. I greatly do not wish for a long game, as Dominions simply ceases to be fun when it becomes so tediuos to make each move. I spend over an hour per move in this game now and still do not even come close to doing everything that ought to be done. I have no idea which commanders have which artifacts anymore. Also, there are way too many cheap strats and far too many things that are totally obsolete by about move 90 or so. Most battles are completely one-sided, based on whatever cheap strategy happened to work. Like the killing of the nearly 200 C'tis worms on my part a few turns ago. Utterly absurb. I am in move 120 in another game of mine now, and it is complete rubbish. Just about the only strategy that works that late in Dominions is Clam hoarding, Arcane Nexus, and total gem income. Kind of stupid, in my opinion, as the game becomes horribly unbalanced towards the end. Even though I am first on nearly every graph in that game, I am kind of hoping to be overrun quickly to put me out of my misery. So I declared war on the near-unbeatable Pythium player despite the Nexus he put up with 999 pearls. We will see how it turns out. Oh well, enough whining, I suppose. When I get home tonight, maybe I will change my opinion when doing my turns on my computer at home over my nice, high-speed internet! That will be a pleasant change indeed... |

Re: My ISP is finally back up.
My ISP has been pretty much down the Last 3 days or so.
This is the first I have been able to get on. Something happened to our Head End for Cable Internet and now hopefully they have got it fixed. IP has Changed again however: IP is: 69.10.118.55 Sorry for the Inconvienience, I seem to be having the worst luck with this server. Good news is no one has staled and I have reset the turn count down to 72 hours. Grim Knight. |
Re: My ISP is finally back up.
Only Panther left .
Wonderful that you managed to reset the turn and i didn't stale . Thnx Grim |
Re: My ISP is finally back up.
I did two turns this evening.
And I really appreciate our host extending the time so I would not stale. It would have been very annoying to lose that castle on my side of the lake to Vanheim because of a stale. But that didn't happen because I got to move and killed his army. So I am happy now! The Devil Queen will not have my hide for losing to the sailors! It sure is a lot nicer to leisurely make my moves at home now instead of squeezing them on the road like the past couple of weeks had been for me. By the way, if anyone wants to eliminate Vanheim now (a hint to the fishies, lol) it should not be hard with him sacking his armies by sailing across the lake like he has been doing. Panther |
Re: My ISP is finally back up.
Panther you just dont like my army bordering you and I bet if my army leaves thats when your vampires will attack again. My illithids just love eating your vampires immortallity lol.
You say you have a secret trick for when I go on the land? It will fail in comparison to what I have planned. Pay me tribute or else your nation will be the first to fall. P.S. We are illithids not fishies. Aku Blictroc of Ryleh |
