There are also some "emulation" projects of MoM. I keep an eye on some and try to steer them to Shrapanel when they reach alpha stage.

Hello everyone,

I'm 46, and like most of you I've been gaming a long time--AD&D, MoM, etc. I'm married with one son in his third year of college--and we're both HUGE Dominions fans (although he has not mustered up enough courage to join a MP game yet).

Dominions is a great game, and I'm happy to be playing it along with a great bunch of folks.

Peace

I just noticed that after a year on the forum, i still did not write a letter of introduction.

About me. I am 22 from bern, switzerland (i bet its nicer than most of the places you live http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...ies/tongue.gif) im a student of sociology at the local university.

I am a gamer since 10 years and i play mostly RPGs (final fantasy, the bioware games and some old SNES ones) and TBS (MoM, HoMM 3, GalCiv 2 and now Dom 3). And after seeing the quality of mainstream games fall into the underworld after the year 2000 im happy that now indy companies begin to develop games that include more than nice graphics.

Sometim, i might even win my first Multiplayer game of dom 3. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Hi all,
I am Enric, a German-Spanish expat living in Hilversum, Noord-Holland.

I play Dom2 (and now Dom3) since it came out on the market (2003, 2005? can't remember).

I have used all the versions of the game, the Linux version, later the Windows version and now the Mac OS X version on my iMac.

I'm interested in on-line campaigns, specially longer ones, as IMHO the human factor, the alliances and diplomacy is what makes the difference.

I have played all races so far, but my favorites are Abysia,
Pangaea, Tien Chi and Machaka (in whatever order). Now I plan to try the new ones.

Hi everyone

I'm a dominions player from Denmark, I just got my hands on dominions 3 a little while ago, played dominions 2 a little before that. Now i'm here trying to find a game online. Hope to see some of you in game http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Just wanted to say hello!

Just ordered the game and waiting for it to arrive.

Played dom2 at a friends place several times so I don't know a lot about the game and the strategies - yet http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Saw a strategy guide for the different nations, but is there also some kind of guide on scripting your troops and general advice?

ello, I'm from Vermont. I've had dom3 for a long time and i had dom2 even longer. I can hold my own against difficult AI, but I've only ever played hotseat multiplayer and i would love to do some multi.

On a more serious note: HI! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif.
If your interested in some blitzing(fast paced games generally over in a few hours) then pop by the IRC channel(sticky above FAQs for info) - there has been atleast one today - quite possibly more.

Hi, from Austin TX.

Got the game a few days ago, logged in plenty of hours. My colleagues probably will recognize the music from how much I find myself humming it.

Hope to join multiplayer at some point, see y'all around.

Hello, another new player here. I'm from California, just got the game from the mail and can't wait to get into it.

Oh, and a quick question, is the game supposed to ship with a box? I ordered it from Amazon to take advantage of their Amazon Prime deal, and I'm hoping they didn't mess up. (I did get the cd and kickass manual though.)

llamabeast August 30th, 2007 09:05 PM

Re: Introduce yourself!! :-)

Hi ThatGuyBob! And the same to the last few of you to say hello too.

Nope the game's not meant to come with a box - just a manual and CD.

By the way, when any of you fancy a go at MP (highly recommended!), I'm probably quite a good person to send a message to, since I start up games for new players from time to time.

BigDisAwesome August 30th, 2007 09:05 PM

Nah, when I got it the CD and manual were just wrapped in plastic. I didn't know Amazon had it now though.

I don't think I ever introduced myself, but I've been around the forums for the last 4 or so months.

So, I'm from Finland, I picked up D3 pretty early on when it came out because I played Dominions 1 back in 2001-2002 a whole lot and had D2 (never got around to playing it online though, I used Ermor with its themes as a basis for a NationStates nation though, heehee), so buying D3 seemed kinda natural to me. Then, a lot after having actually bought the game, I figured I wanted to play it online, cuz I had liked D1 so much and it was a bummer that I had pretty much skipped D2, so I checked the forums and found you guys.

And now you're stuck with me. ;p

Well I have been around for a few month, so now I figure it's time to post in this thread.

I'm from northern part of sweden, and I'm currently finishing the last part of my studies. I grew up playing console/computer games, always enjoyed strategy and RPG games the most. Favourite RPGs are probably Fallout series, VtM: bloodlines and Planescape:torment. Favourite strategy of all times are probably Starcraft and now dom3 as well.

I started playing dom2, but never got around to playing it in mp games. Dom3 i started blitzing several times, before I finally got the currage to sign up for one of the forum games. Favourite nations are probably those that use blood magic or are astral heavy.

32 yrs old and from Aarhus, Denmark. Played quite a few dom 2 games in the day. Just picked up dom 3. hoping to convince my mates to buy the game (2 already did!), so we can get some multiplayer goodness going.

im an avid player of rpg and rts games, although the last couple of years i seem to crave more complex games. or maybe its just because the games on the pc scene have been dumbed down over the last couple of years. luckoily we have dominions!

Hi all. It's been a little while since I joined the forums, so I figured it was about time to introduce myself. Didn't mean to be unfriendly, I just wasn't sure if I'd stay.

Well, I love the community, and I love the game, so I think I'm here for a while.

I have yet to play any MP.... well, I've played 2 turns of one game just now http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif so I'm obviously still learning. I'm hoping to start a team game for new players soon - send me a PM if you are interested.

Despite my ignorance I've given a few stabs at maps.

and I hope to do more. I'm taking suggestions.

Anyhow, just wanted to say hi, this forum and community rocks, and I'm looking forward to hopefully not being a total dom3 fool some day.

Hellow,

16 years old, been playing Dominions since the 1st one. Never actually thought of buying it for online play though, but I decided to change it with the new Dominions 3. It was my first online purchase and it just got delivered today! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

I have yet to play MP games.

Sadly I don't think I'll be able to convince anyone from my Country (Mauritius) to play Dominions 3, they all love 3D games and won't take the effort to order it from an online store. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...s/rolleyes.gif

Hello all,

Coming from Montreal Canada, I do some JAVA distributed system programming for my living.

I had played a lot of strategy et RPG game. Switching from one to the other to change the way I play. My native language is french, but I hope to be understand in english has well. Not really easy to do, because I wish to say a lot of thing that I cannot say without the proper way to express it in english. Otherwise, I am fine with it.

I had lurk around here since June. Dominions seems to be a good game that I would surely buy soon enough.

Hello

I am from Madrid, Spain. I had never played Dominions but one day someone spoke about this game, Dominons3, in a strategy forum and I decided to give it a try...

The spanish dominions community, as far as I know, is quite small, probably due to the lack of news about this game in spanish media. But we are trying to change this. A game like this one canīt be missed.

Taking a respite with regard to MP games due to recent time constraints, but am having fun reading of the travails and prevails anyway. This little community is special, so I give up:

Checking on in.

34 year old guy born and raised in Portland, OR USA (duh, eh). Was an accountant for a few years upon graduating with a BS in Finance. And yeah yeah yeah. Emphasis on BS. *belch*

Have been in a life partnership with the craziest alternative Afghan chemist of all time for a bit over a decade. She routinely punches me, screams, blames me for losing her keys, and hints at wanting to have kids.

I have two copies of The Village of Hommlet. I like Weird Al Yankovic. Have published two science fiction novels under a pseudonym. Smoke. Have not pets. Am routinely accused of being an alternative looking frat dude. And when that happens I get drunk, fall down the stairs, stand up, and forget what the accuser had said.

I also specialize in getting reamed in Dominions 3 MP, but doing so in a stylish, dapper fashion that involves me staring at the fruit basket on the top of that one Pretender's head. Which is a lot better than being a moron and playing an FPS.

WHICH I'M POSITIVE NONE OF YOU HAVE EVER DONE BECAUSE WE'RE SMART. Right? We're smart. *spilling zinfandel*

Hello, my name is Howard and Im a 24 year old American from Florida. I work part time at a movie theatre (just cause, hey, free movies) and most of my income comes from Tutoring mentally handicap individuals in various Basic Life Activities.

Anyway, thats boring stuff. I love strategic gaming even if Im not so good at it. I saw reviews for this game back in march sometime, looked around in my local game store to see if they had it, then realized I'd have to order it online. I hate ordering things online so I forgot all about it.

Recently got a little email from Stardock offering me 20% off and since I really wanted to play this game I decided I might as well order it. Ordered it Saturday, got an email it shipped this morning...so hopefully it will be here by saturday if not earlier. ERG WAITING SUCKS! Oh well.

Anyway, hope to soon be able to play with you all in MP or at least desperately seek advice on the forums for my ineptness http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

I am Mr. Hart, also known as Don Corazon. Age 34, I live in San Francisco, and work at a venture capital firm that invests in health care companies. I have to work a lot unfortunately but hopefully one day that will not be the case.

Anyway, I had messed around with the Dom II demo but was not until I got the Stardock coupon that I took the plunge with Dom III. So I am really loving the game - I plunged into several MP games and having a great time and hope to be part of the community for a long time.

See you in the game! Cheers.

I also got seduced by the Stardock rebate offer http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Seriously, I hadn't heard of the game before I received that promo email, tried the demo and discovered that it was my kind of game. Turn based, lots of varity, strategy and tactics, elements of roleplaying. I'm a veteran of games like Stars!, Space Empires, Heroes of Might and Magic. So I ordered the full game.

Meanwhile I'll play the demo. This is one of the few games that have a demo that can keep you occupied for a while (Railroad Tycoon 2+3 also comes to mind).

I'm 52, live in Denmark and work as a consultant helping companies improve their software development processes.

Hello, all! I'm a 42 year-old university professor and I have been a gamer all my life. I enjoy FPS, RPG, and MMORPG games, and I'm coming to this type of a game for the first time. I'm not very proficient or successful at strategy games, but the recommendations of my colleagues led me to give this a try. My colleagues are always pushing me to join in their Dominion 3 multiplayer games, and I finally gave in.

Wow...there's so much to learn!

Yep, Stardock rebate offer here too. I haven't received the game yet but it should be here next week.

I'm a 28 year old living in Boulder, CO. Just graduated with a Masters in Oriental Medicine. So I do all that Acupuncture and Chinese herbology.

I play all sorts of games but lean towards the strategy types (both good RTS or turn based), FPS, and RPG.

I'm glad I ran into Dominion 3... the demo has totally sucked me in. I'm looking forward to having the full game and joining in the multiplayer games that seem fairly prevalent.

Panpiper November 8th, 2007 07:52 PM

Re: Introduce yourself!! :-)

I've been playing turn based strategy games since around the age of five. They were just relatively simple board games back then, Risk, Stratego and the like. Given that I am now 48 years old, things have evolved a lot and my gaming interests have grown along side. I discovered both role playing games and war games pretty much at the same time at the age of 18, so 30 years ago. My interest quickly grew to a virtual obsession with point build design systems, an obsession which after a couple of decades has at least receded into a mere fascination.

My favorite games back then had massive rule books, binders inches thick when everything was collated. Star Fleet Battles, Advanced Squad Leader, the Europa war game series were my bread and butter, Axis and Allies was a game children played as far as I was concerned. My game boards covered ping pong tables. High Guard and Trillion Credit Squadron ate up a year and a half of my life, the Hero Games System more than that. I was a hard core gaming fanatic. It inevitably became my job where I managed a hobby game store for ten years. For those years, there was virtually no one on the planet who knew more about gaming than me.

About fifteen years ago, computer games started taking over both the market and my interest. I've never been a fan of first person shooters or real time gaming. Anything where victory requires reflexes or an intuitive recollection of a zillion esoteric key stroke shortcuts is totally out of my league. I suck at any such game. I like to think, to analyze the situation and plan strategy. I've tried online multiplayer role playing games and would be happy to enjoy them if they featured real time chat within the game client (to my knowledge, there has only been one such game released to date, and yes I enjoyed playing it). Solitary RPGs where I can move at my own pace or turn based games have always been my style. RPGs with a turn based combat resolution are among my favorites (Fallout, Jagged Alliance, etc.)

Master of Magic I adored when it first came out. I still have Master of Orion on my system and it still gets played. Civilization stole years from me. I've purchased literally hundreds of computer games over the years, played most of them for but a few weeks and then on to the next. Those that I go back to repeatedly are few and far between. I prefer games with a lot of meat to them. It has been a constant frustration to me that pen and paper games could be insanely complex, but computer games, where one can have a computer to assist with the complexity, those almost invariably have ludicrously simplistic game mechanics. I understand how market forces have driven the current domination of simplistic 'twitch' games, but I very much regret it.

I first discovered Dominions in 2004 and played Dom2 extensively. I only recently purchased Dom3 and it has again rekindled my interest. I expect Dominions is one of those games that will stay on my system to be returned to year after year. It has the level of detail and scope that I liked in the games of yore. All it is missing is a point build system for race design. But DrPraetorious is working on that and I am paying close attention.

(^O^)/ Hajimema****e! Nosa desuu~

I am a 19 yearold student studying animation. Fear me, I forget no detail! (*smile*)
I just picked up this game so I am a new, and sadly the computer always kills me.
However! Since finding this foro I have not died so hard lately (There was many things I did not know what they did. Example: Bless, I thought it was automatic give to all troops, not just sacred who was blessed) and knowing what is really good (or bad) and should (not) be used is helpful also. (Production/Sloth Scale talk is interesting)
MP seems more good though because, unlike the PC people may not attack if you ask not to~ so I look forward to my first MP game (Be nice ^^; I die easy)
But do not be mistaken! If you hurt my beloved people living inside my country, I will yell "Shinjimae!" and see that your country will burn, and your weakly pretender has his blood boil!

Now I just must wait for the game to arrive from Amazon so that I can input a real key. (No patch and MP ability makes the game... Not as good) I'm dieing from the wait. (only 3-5 more days)

minna-san ni au no o tanoshimi ni shimasu!
PS: I am in the mIRC chat often, if needed you can find me over there.

I'm 36, I have a phd on Computer science and work on Industrial software (control systems to make quality inspection usng infra-red, xray and chemical sensors). I live with my girlfriend in a town in the middle-north of Italy (between Rimini and Bologna).

I've played rpg for a life (d&d, warhammer, gurps) and crpg (in particular old rpg on PC and lot of jrpg on the playstation systems). I like very much turn based strategy and fantasy, and Dominion was a wonderful found.
Non in my ever less free time I play Dom3, read (now I'm in dhe middle of Martins opera) and play board games (I have over 80 of them, from old school avalon hill to modern german boardgames). I read comics, in particular some manga (vagabond, lone wolf, blame, eden).
I liked very much seiv but I can't "get into" sev, the interface has stopped me. I don't like real time games of all sorts and fantasy miniature battles.

If you like fantasy is there in Italy a very nice festival in a wonderful medieval town, Lucca, named "Lucca comics ad gaemes".

Ci si sente sul forum,
Ciao!

Hi all- 37 year old Texan here. My father developed military simulations so I started gaming at an early age. Today, when I have time, I mostly hover between RPG and strategy, though I go for long periods without gaming sometimes. However, I know my job will have me traveling for the next two years, and Dominions is perfect for a business laptop and long layovers.

In real life I play a level 5 Earth / 2 Water geologist, and spend my time exploring for a major oil company. Most recently I got to drive a robot around at the edge of the continental shelf, mapping a submarine canyon. There were no aboleths, but we're still reviewing the sonar data for the Basalt City...

That sounds like a cool job, Mr. Dark. Except for the part about going long periods without gaming sometimes. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

Mr_Dark December 13th, 2007 10:53 AM

Re: Introduce yourself!! :-)

Actually, it is a really cool job. Evil, very evil, but cool. As for the lack of game time, I think I blame that on the family more than the job - which is pretty 9-5ish.

So, question - this game looks easily moddable. Last night I built a map file for Zen's Europe map with the 'historical' start locations (Ermor in Rome, C'tis in Egypt, Van in Norway, etc.) I'm play-testing now to see if the balance is right (and learning how the game works). Is this the sort of thing people are interested in? I'm not much of an artist, but text file modding I can do...

And thanks for the welcome!
