OT: Need Help Finding
 

This is a short term OT subject where I am asking the great pool of knowledgable people of this forum to help me hunt down a movie.

As a child I recalled seeing a preview for a Genie movie where a small child accidently lets a Genie out of its bottle and it was a mean genie who if I recall correctly says "I am Free after 10,000 years."

I have never seen this movie, and from what I recall I wanted to see it. I did a google search but came up with only current disney or old tv show Version. I thought it might be a Sin'Bad movie but I still could not find it.

HELP please. The movie is an older one, pre 1985

OBT all Five of Lucas's Star Wars movies are in the all time Top 20 money grossing movies. One is about to be bumped though.

Might it be Clash of the Titans. That was in 1981.

Edit: I too remember a movie with a boy on a beach finding a Genie, and he has to trick it back into the bottle ala "I don't believe you fit in that bottle, prove it". Don't know if it is the movie I mentioned or an old saturday matinee film.

Try some of the advanced search features in www.imdb.com - I believe you can search the plot summaries (search for "genie") and also the "quotes" section.

Tricking the genie back into the bottle is part of the story of Alladin and the magic lamp in one of the old movies. They are not always titled 'Alladin' though. The story comes from the '1001 Nights' stories, so there are movies featuring that story and several others and titled 'Arabian Nights' or '1001 Nights' or something like that. There are several in the 1940s and 1950s. I think "Arabian Nights' http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0034465/ of 1942 is the really famous one.

Interesting trivia: One of the actors in that movie is Shemp Howard, yes, 'Shemp' of the Three Stooges. Didn't know they ever did anything else. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

Was it an old 1940 movie? like perhaps "The thief of Bagdad"? That's the one that comes to mind when you say a grouchy genie that says "FREE at Last after 10,000 years."
