Having multiple fleets attack at once

OK Why not be able to have multiple fleets attack from different angles? Lets say the fleets must both be adjacent to the fleet being attacked, but why not have both be able to attack at the same time. It would add a more tactical approach to the game, and give cloaking mor importance. Maybe I'm missing something and this feature is in there somewhere, but in my opinion this would be a cool new feature.

Thoughts?

Yeah, you can make multiple ships attack by using the SHIFT key to select more than one, but they have to be in the same sector. Ditto for fleets, I believe.

But I've only played turn-based. What happens in simultaneous?

I think combat only happens every '5' days so if you get all the fleets there from multiple directions you should be able to have several attack from different directions.

However a problem with this is that there is no 'WAIT' or 'WAIT until x days' have passed so you might have to send some fleets on a wierd movement path to expend movement to allow for a coordinated attack.

The shift and move/attack method is only good in a turn-based game not a simultenous game. Also it only works for ships/fleets in the same sector. (sort of like a informal fleet)

...and it only seems to work properly if ALL ships / fllets can get to the enemy occupied sector in 1 turn. IOW, if it takes more than 1 turn to get there, on the second turn they all switch back to as if you had moved them idividually (when using the 'shift move' method'.

Methinks it could solve most of this issue if we could assign multiple fleets to a larger group (lets call them 'battle group' for lack of a better term). Then you could move the battle group to an enemy occupied sector. And then, you could assign different strategies to different fleets.

I know this has been discussed before, but it may be the solution to this particular problem (especially in games that require strategic battles). ...and I have no idea how difficult this would be to implement, however I'm quite sure its not a 'moddable' item.

So I just push shift while I attack and they attack from different directions?

battle Groups would be cool, but what I'm thinking is have one fleet attack from one side while another comes in from behind. The fleet attacking from behind being from a different sector then the one attacking from the front. This would allow for better flanking actions and more militaristic tactics.

Chewy, you're asking for tactical combat to be tactical http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon7.gif
It would be cool to come in from both sides, I can see my buddies face as I take out all his support ships in the first round of combat!
