SPOB 11 - Soviet Union
I noticed the lack of captured German tanks in the Russian OBAT; the Soviets used a lot of captured German gear, they even issued instruction manuals on how to drive and operate Panzer IIIs, IVs, and StuGs, and kept their own stock of captured vehicle parts for the aforementioned tanks.
Panthers and Tigers on the other hand, when captured, were driven until they broke, then abandoned. I've found the following Icons in WinSPWW2 which could be used for captured German equipment in Soviet service: Icon 998 - Captured Pz Ia Icon 1008 - Captured Pz IIA-C Icon 1016 - Captured Pz IIIC-D Icon 1241 - Captured Panzer IIIJ Icon 1047 - Captured Pz 38(t) Icon 1117 - Captured StuG IIIe Icon 1121 - Captured StuG IIIf Icon 1127 - Captured StuG IIIG With Skirts Icon 1211 - Captured Pz IIIM with Skirts Icon 1247 - Captured Pz IV L24 Icon 1255 - Captured Pz IV L43/L48 Icon 1272 - Captured Pz IV L48 With Skirts Icon 1233 - Captured Panther Icon 4568 - Captured Hetzer Icon 735 - Captured Tiger I suggest that captured Panthers and Tigers be given an absurdly high cost to represent their scarcity and the fact that they were driven until they broke down. |
Re: SPOB 11 - Soviet Union
what dates do you suggest? Suppose you'd agree since you posted it here publicly, but anyway it's better to ask: may I use this in my OOB mod?

Re: SPOB 11 - Soviet Union
In the early months of Barbarossa, the Soviets weren't in any position to hold onto the battlefield to recover such things like abandoned tanks, or tanks with minor damage.
By August 1941, the front lines had stabilized long enough and the Soviets had launched a few successful counterattacks, etc. I'd say that from September 1941 to March 1943, captured tanks can only be bought singly, and for a very high cost; to represent individual tanks being captured, and turned against their users at the battlefield. From March 1943, captured German equipment becomes cheap and commonplace; and you can buy platoons; because by this point, the Soviets have captured hundreds of Panzer IIIs and other vehicles in the encirclement at Stalingrad, and have had time to repair them. From that point on, the Soviets would almost always be in command of the battlefield from Kursk onwards, so German equipment is available in quantity. |
