Bad Advice

I read up a lot on Ry'leh before making my pretender for a game I'm in. I'd just like to say that HEAT scales do indeed effect your underwater income. I can't remember where it was, but someone posted/wrote a guide that referenced the fact that the temperature scales have no effect underwater.

This is incorrect, and screwing me out of 15% of extra income. It ONLY applies to cold scales.

I'm feeling very sorry for myself that I didn't fact check before I started a game.

Just in case anyone else was wondering, cold still reduces supply under water, though it doesn't effect income.

So, any amount of cold scales does not decrease income underwater, but heat scales does? That seems... unbalanced?

Interesting, does cold perhaps have other effects detrimental to a dominion/province or to aquatic/amphibian creatures? (perhaps to balance this out) I am unsure if the supply reduction evens this out?

I always try and make some wine with those types of grapes. (sometimes works..)

Oh, that was interesting. I didn't know.

Weird. I think it was Evilhomer's guide that mentioned that.

In his defense though if I had just tested with 3 cold and saw that it didn't affect income I would have naturally assumed it would have done the same with Heat.

It seems very odd.

I got that advice from Evilhomer as well and had put that in my EA R'Lyeh guide (I have edited that part after reading your comments here Jazzepi). I have only tried cold up to this point and I came to the same conclusion that Velusion did.

It does seem like either both or neither should effect water province income, not just heat.

On the other hand, IRL oceans are generally shockingly cold, even in summer, as their natural state (in comparison to land, and the comfort range of humans).

So there is a certain logic to it, although it does seem skewed from a game balance perspective.

Yeah I meant more in reference to game balance.

No, on average the water isn't colder than the air.

(A) Oceans are much colder than air during the summer, but that's because the water changes temperature more slowly; the oceans will be much warmer than air during the winter.
(B) Water takes away your heat faster. You will be comfy in 80F air but chill quite quickly in 80F water.

All oceans are around 2-4 Celsius in depth greater then 1000m. Since most water nations do not have floating cities they should not be affected by temperature.

Perhaps shallow water could be affected by temperature.
