Hi,

I had a format c: on my computer and I lost all the maps to Dom3... One of my favorites was Middle Earth, unfortunatly link to this map is not working (http://www.ascensiongames.com/downloads/MiddleEarth.zip).
It is a quite playable map , so I hope some of you may have it on his/her hdd - could you please share it with me:) ?

Sure, here it is: http://www.shrapnelcommunity.com/thr...?Number=477769

Note, that if you select or randomize seaplayers the game will crash.

I asked Tolkien enterprises for permission making the Sauron nation, yet they said 'no'. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif
It would have been fun creating Saurons heroes, pretender(s), mages and units.

Who wouldn't love to play their favorite Dominion_3 nation against Sauron and his armies! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

I'm sorry, but asking permission to create something that is not for resale and in no way infringes on their existing products is pointless. Just do it.

If you asked them for permission to create a Middle Earth map from scratch, I am willing to bet that they would say no to that as well.

Pay homage to the work of others and let common sense rule. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

That's illegal.

I personally don't care and infringe copyright all the time, but you should realise a mod or admin might stomp you (or me, or the map) for saying it.

Err, no, it's not illegal. Copyright laws only apply to stuff you create if you're trying to use it commercially. Modding etc. is 100% legal if you don't ask money for what you've made.

True as long as the creation is not provided on game forums. I was informed during my discussions with Tolkien Enterprises is if that the created mod is made available on forums the game will attract more attention from fans of the fantasy books/movies. This would provide income for the creators which could get those hosting the forum in trouble. I guess someone could make the mod and then send a one time PM to existing members on where the nation can be downloaded thus not drawing attention from outside fans.

So basically they're telling you you're free to produce whatever you like but not allowed to tell anyone? Well, sounds like your average big business way of dealing with people - lets tell them what exactly what we want to and pretend it's the law. That's not how it works, though. I'm not exactly familiar with the details of "Fair Use", since here in Europe the same things are usually covered by common sense, but publishing anything you've created yourself, if not a direct copy of something, on a forum is absolutely legal.

How many children paint some mickey mouse? If Walt Disney can sue all those children because they paint something, we should all revolt to put back that Tyranny.

But with those music company that sue P2P users, I guess that they seems to be near that Tyranny. Nobody do money while sharing MP3...

At least in Canada, we got our rights to do anything with any copyrights if we don't sell those materials to someone else. But it cannot last forever... they got so much money selling CD 20$ while they really cost .30$.

BTW, since I play strategy game (1990), I had find a lot of middle earth maps in mod community and I never heard any problems with that.
