A new game/dev to work w/ Illwinter & Shrapnel!
Ok, Shrapnel, looking for the next big game?
Illwinter, tired of Dominions and want to do something new? Why don't you guys contact this indie developer and work with him to make a marketable game! http://www.bay12games.com/dwarves/ Dwarf Fortress is an AWESOME game, amazingly deep, but it has almost 0 polish. Uh, first, why do you post this in the forum for Illwinter's Dominions 3 game instead of the general Shrapnel forums?
Next, what makes you think that this game needs help? It's freeware, and it is successful. It has received lots of awards already. The creator seems to like it being freeware and living on donations only. Quote:

Okay, seems I read that wrong, it sounded like he wants to get them to sell Dwarf Fortress. A cooperation with the Bay 12 Games guys to develop a new game would be interesting

Are those two pics examples of sprite packs available for the game?? I might give it another try, then! I loved the concept, but wasn't prepared to try and memorize what all the ascii symbols represented. Too busy for that kind of effort. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif

Blah blah sprites. Who cares - play the game, and if you enjoy it you won't either Liberal use of the 'k' key will get you used to what everything is, and it's actually pretty intuitive. Besides, now with the Z axis there will never be an isometric view. It would be ridiculous. It would be a first person game before that.
As far as I know it runs under Wine but that's about it on non-Windows machines. I also suggest having a beefy processor. |
