OK, this was odd
I just got a "OUT OF MEMORIE" Error. Forgive more saying this, but WTF??? I have 512 megs of DDR Ram, and I seriously doubt that I ran out of memorie!!!
Ok, I am kinda ticked! I just kicked arse, and now all of my work is gone!!!!!!! aarrgge! |
Re: OK, this was odd
UPDATE: After a few tries, I got one of the old save games to work. I am trying to see how far I can play before I get another error.

I will make a bet. I bet that you had SE IV running plus either the SE IV map editor or another game of SE IV. There seems to be some conflict that makes it go wacko if you do this.....

Re: OK, this was odd
The problem was, and I only speculate, that since I had been running a tribes2 server, the availible memorie was used up over the course of 36 hours. The time since I Last turned my PC off.
Since I was doctor resticted from working over the Last few days, I kept the machine on whereas I normally would have turned it off. Funny huh? Ohhhhh well, live and learn. http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/ima...ons/icon12.gif |

I've seen it recommended that any system running Windows be restarted daily, because Windows becomes progressively more unstable the longer it's running.

Re: OK, this was odd
One of the major problem of win xx is memory leak.
Use an app like memturbo for reorganize/get back the memory lost. Also w2k sp2 is the more stable win Version. |
Re: OK, this was odd
Believe it or not: I have only 32MB of RAM on my computer with Windows 98 and never had this memory leak problem. I played quite a lot with large quadrants up to 250 systems and 20 empires!

Re: OK, this was odd
I rarely ever have the memory leak problems UNLESS I use MS software (Word, Excel, etc.). If I stay away from anything MS produces, I can run any of my systems for weeks (95, 98, and 2000 Pro). If I use MS Apps, give me 2 hrs and I'll have to restart.
That's one of the reasons why I couldn't understand why they wanted to 'break up' MicroSoft - IMO they're already seperate companies..... If they weren't, wouldn't the Applications group have a little better understanding about what the OS group is doing ??? Huh?!?!?! |
