Polanes - a polish nation

Hello,

I'm happy to discover this mod after having deserted for some month the forums (but not Dominions !) Well, on my part i too have developed a mod based on Poland (I call the Polanes but I'm looking for a name without 'Pol' inside) Not having a lot of information on polish folklore despite being polish, I have concentrated on a LA version. This is more inspired by late polish armies like those of Tannenberg but not only. Inside you'll find 'murderous rusics' with polearms suited to kill knights (Ulm !), a good militia with huge shields, crossbows and polearms, a lot of light cavalry with lances or bows, mighty war wagons (I'm proud of them !) , and sacred cavalry lightly based on winged uhlans, wojewodes, hetmans etc...

I'm avancing very slowly but I hope it's playable even if i still need adjust the costs of the most 'exotic' untis (mostly Warwagons). Some days ago I decided to add something like an amber cult/or weapons with a link with Oceania, but haven't created anything yet, only on paper.

I will not yet publish it as I comitted an error and used somebody else DM as a basis (at the beginning I known nothing about modding) So i want to rewrite the DM file from scratch before publishing.

I need to create sprites for the commanders too.

2 mods for poland ! He we are more popular than orcs ;)

Re: Sombre Rebalance: Polod EA, MA

You might consider naming it "Choscisko" (legendary father of Piast the Wheelwright), after the Polish dynasty (10th century-1370ad), since that would seem to be LA territory.

Sounds greatly, even if i may change it a bit, like "Hosciszko" or "Szosciszko"...

thanx for ideas... your 'under title' (I don't know how to call it) sounds great !

Re: Sombre Rebalance: Polod EA, MA

It's not original to me. I found it in Wikipedia-and I quote:

"The genetive plural of the name Kołodziej is Kołodziejów, which allegorically means "wheel of time". The genitive form of the name Piast is Piasta, which also means "the hub of the wheel". Gallus Anonymus reports an invocation stating that his successors' eyes would shine like stars.
The term "Piast Dynasty", referring to the early rulers of the Polans and Poland, was introduced by historian Adam Naruszewicz (1733-1796)."

Since "Wheel of Time" would get many people thinking "Robert Jordan", I necessarily had to discount it. "The Hub of the Wheel" sounds more..."nationey", anyway. :)

I'd rather go with name Sarmatia.

Quote:

Sarmatia (Polish: Sarmacja) was the semi-legendary and poetic name of the Commonwealth, which was fashionable through the eighteenth century, designating qualities associated with the literate citizenry of the vast Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. The culture, lifestyle and the ideology of the Polish nobility were greatly affected by Sarmatism. It was a unique phenomenon for its cultural mixture of Eastern, Western and native traditions. The trend considerably influenced the noble cultures of other countries, such as Hungary, Moldova and the Slavic regions. Later Polish culture continued to be profoundly influenced by the Sarmatian tradition.

Actually, I'll take a look at this and give my thoughts on it-a Polish/Sarmatian connection seems like it's a bit complicated for me to comment on it without further research, but it's definitely intriguing!

Re: Polanes - a polish nation

Ow my post was moved into a 'new' one, well it's probably better in order not to polluate others posts, even if my own mod is not really ready. I made some progress on latest days and thank to the poster here i have some new ideas.

Need now to continue to edit commanders as they lack most of my attention. Of all units done until now I'll keep only 2/3. Some are rather done as tests (like a huge Ballista omounted on chariato, great for killings giants, but not really thematic and i need only one war wagon, not a bunch of it)

As long for Samaratian it's just in the good century so i'll have a look !

Just thought I'd give this a lil bump. How's progress going?
