More moons for planetary defense?
Is it possible to tell the SE-IV map creation algorithm to create more moons for certain planet types?
I'd like to see a small number of huge planets with lots of small moons that could be colonized and used for planetary defense. Also, is it possible to make the lunar graphics smaller? It would be more realistic to have smaller moons and much more of them (i.e. Jupiter). Thanx, skigrinder |
Re: More moons for planetary defense?
In the systemtypes.TXT, use lots of:
Obj 15 Physical Type := Planet Obj 15 Position := Same As 6 Obj 15 Stellar Abil Type := Normal Planet Obj 15 Size := Tiny Obj 15 Atmosphere := None Obj 15 Composition := Any Where Obj 6 is Jupiter (after asteroid belt). You'll get a tiny rock or ice moon in orbit of Obj 6. |
Re: More moons for planetary defense?
You can also make them smaller, if you like; just define a new size under tiny, make pictures for it, then set all the moons to use that size.
Don't forget that some moons are actually bigger than planets though http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif Phoenix-D |

skigrinder: How's this going? or is it not going?
If not I may put a hand to it during the next week and create some more varied systems (with more varied planet/moon combos) |
Re: More moons for planetary defense?
Right I shall assume that it is not being undertaken at the moment.
so I'll do it http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif Expect me to post updated SystemTypes.txt and StellarAbilityTypes.txt and SectType.txt shortly (i.e. today or tomorrow). Edit: Currently I have added the following not tested yet so I don't know if these work but I'll list em anyway. Varying Turbulance on warp points. Turbulance now ranges from very minor to very major, although it is rarer to find turbulant warp-points. Stars that cause random movement in a system due to gravity waves. Unstable stars now have a chance of exploding, although only 1 in 10 have a 1% chance of exploding each year, the rest will be fine. Of course you have no way of knowing which is which http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif Planets that have unusual gravity and EM fields can disrupt shields nearby Planets that can distort all combat sensors nearby due to spacial phenomenom Well fortified planets that get bonus to ground combat defense and planets that exhibit a natural shielding to combat weaponry. That's it for now, but I'll be adding new systems (with different planet / moon combinations) over the next couple of days as well as testing. |
Re: More moons for planetary defense?
Damn
tested and the funky planets didn't work oh well I'll create moons and stuff at least |

Last time I checked it (1.49) that ability didn't work http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon9.gif Phoenix-D |
Re: More moons for planetary defense?
yes
I double checked and that also doesn't work :-/ I hope at least 'moons' work http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif by that I mean creating a new planettype and then graphics for it. |
Re: More moons for planetary defense?
On the site, how about putting the readme files as a separate download so a person doesn't have to download the whole zip file to see what's in it?

Re: More moons for planetary defense?
Matryx,
Apologies for my delinquency. Thanx for your interest in the idea. Have you had a chance to create your SystemTypes.txt and StellarAbilityTypes.txt and SectType.txt files? I'm curious to try your mods. Thanx, skigrinder |
