Re: Gas giants Good or Bad?
Gas giant planets are both rarer and larger than normal planets- no gas giant moons, for example. In short, it places a premium on your colonies- you'll have fewer to protect, but each one you loose will hurt more.
Other than that, no huge effects. Phoenix-D |
Re: Gas giants Good or Bad?
Gas giants don't come smaller than medium, so in a game where the starting planets are set to small, you still get a medium sized homeworld.

Re: Gas giants Good or Bad?
methane should be your choice of air.
Gas are good to start with but as soon as you meet a rock race trade for it or capture the first colony ship you see. I like the gas giants. If you take gas make sure you take advanced storage. Huge planets will house 30 facilities. And that is a huge bonus. But you have to use this advantage early to make sure you have no resource problem and then get the 28 research planet going. |

Yeah, I also like hydrogen with gas planets. Found quite a few breathables in the Last games I played.

I have found the observation of gas giant distributions:
http://www.shrapnelgames.com/cgi-bin...&f=23&t=001768 The count of every atmosphere (except none) should be the same. But I like to take the one which is rarely taken by the others. @Rollo: Check PM. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif |

Re: Gas giants Good or Bad?
No offence to everybody here but...
Frankly, colonizing a Gas Giant is unreal. I know it's a game but this has always ticked me off: races such as us can't colonize gas giants because it would get crushed by the immense pressure and its wind velocities would flail a colony around the planet so many times... Energy beings (if there are ones) would be able to survive but carbon based lifeforms wouldnt be able to survive the elements of a gas giant. Maybe build a station to mine it but the idea of colonization is farfetched. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif |
