Adding Empires

I loaded in JLS mod and it works great. I have tried to load in Atrocities files but I get an unable to load error. I put the .emp files into the empire folder. I had unzipped the rest of the files to pictures\races folder and moved the one text file to the design folder. The races that came with the mod work fine. If I change the directory to the standard directory and try to load a empire that came with the game I get the same error. Any help thanks.

Re: Adding Empires

You need to read the GETTING STARTED read me. (In the ModInfo Folder) http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

USE THE MOD LAUNCHER PROGRAM to launch the Mod. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

The AST mod Complete is the full mod with everything you need to get started. The FULL Version has everything except the IMAGE MOD files.
Those you will have to download seperately and intstall. The Light has only 8 races. That Version requires the Addon On pack, and the Image mod.

If you want, send me your race atrocities@astmod.com and also mail to pcpatrocities@hotmail.com

I can set up emp files for you. 2k 3k and 5k.

WHY WONT MY EMP FILES WORK?
The AST mod uses modified files therefore it can only use the emp files that came with the game or ones that have been made using the mod.

If you want to use a new race for that game, you can. The way to do it is easy.

You copy over your new race WITHOUT AI FILES, to the ASTMOD/Pictures/Race directory. Then find AI files in the races that come with the AST MOD that best fit your race and copy them over to your race.

Rename them to your races name.
Klingon_AI_Speech to "YourRace"_AI_Speech (Without the quotes)

Start the AST mod.

Yes. After starting the AST Mod,
a. Select NEW GAME
b. Click on the PLAYER SETTINGS tab.
c. At the bottom of this page choose the Racial Points for New Players. (2000, 3000, or 5000) *I like to play with 5000 Racial Points.*
d. Click on the PLAYERS tab
e. Click on the ADD NEW tab. Under GENERAL DETAILS tab you can choose the race you want. Additionally, you can give it an empire name, empire type, Emperor title, Emperor Name, choose a design name file, (For use with ship design names). NOTE: If your new player is going to be computer controlled, then you will want to select both the Computer Controlled, and Use Race Minister Style option at the bottom of the General Details page.
f. Under the ENVIRONMENT tab you can select the atmosphere for the race, and the home planet type.
g. Under the CULTURE tab you can select the culture for the race. (At the bottom of the page is a button for COMPARE CULTURE MODIFIERS. Click that to compare the advantages and disadvantages for each culture.)
h. Under the CHARACTERISTICS tab you can either increase or decrease values for the player.
i. Under the ADVANCED TRAITS tab you can select advanced traits for the player. (I often choose my advanced traits first then do the Characteristic. Remember, for each of these you use, you will use up Racial Points. You can gain more racial points by decreasing the Characteristics below a 100%, but not a good idea for playing the AI. Good idea for PBW games if it’s your race.)
j. Under the DESCRIPTION tab you can fill in the information about your race, and select Demeour, and Happiness Type.
k. After you have set up the race, click the CREATE EMPIRE button at the bottom of the page.
l. Select the empire you just created from the Players in Game window, and then click Save to File.
m. Click no for save with designs
n. Click NEW EMPIRE, name it, and then click OK. You will have just saved that empire to the Empire Folder and it can now be accessed whenever you want to use it for a game. After you have added your new races, start playing the game. Before you do though, make sure all of your game settings are to your liking. Have fun, and I hope this has helped.

I hope this helps. If not, send me your race with a description on what Trek Characteristics you want to use and I will set it up for you.

Re: Adding Empires

If you want to use Star Trek ship sets with other mods, you will have to download them from

http://galileo.spaceports.com/~william/downloads.htm
Or
http://astmod.com/newtrek.htm

These files contain EMP files & AI files that will work with most mods and all non mod games.

The Races that are in the AST Mod contain modified AI files * EMP files that WILL NOT work with other mods or in a non mod game.

The races that you can download from the above links will work with most mods and non mod games.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">In many cases .emp files created for one mod will not work with another. There might be a problems with AI as well. JLS' mod is very weird http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif (in good sense) no AI from other mods will work with it. If you want to add some new race for youself only (not for AI) simply make a new folder in pictures/race directory and move files there. If you want to add race to be played under AI control, you will have to borrow AI files from another JLS' race. Simply copy all AI files and rename them. Take care about AI_general file - that one keeps unique race description, you may want to keep them but you will have to adjact racial traits, they are unique in JlS' mod. Copy and paste should help. Few trials and fails and it will become easy. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

To make new emp files (old won't work) - start game with large number of random AI players. Then go to "game menu", find "players" option and turn the race you want under your control. When its turn comes, go to same menu again and "save empire". If you are not lucky and the race has not been randomly generated, start a new game.
