Ticon and Pyrexia Ship Sets are now available
http://www.astmod.com/concept/dom.BMP http://www.astmod.com/concept/dom2.BMP http://www.astmod.com/concept/dom3.BMP
http://www.astmod.com/concept/domm.BMP http://www.astmod.com/concept/dom2m.BMP http://www.astmod.com/concept/dom3m.BMP I redesigned one of my Dominion Ships so that it would appear more toward the ships shown in DS9 Of the three images above, which one looks the best. I am opting for Image 3. Don't fret about the color, I can change that later. [ August 09, 2003, 16:27: Message edited by: Atrocities ] |
Re: Ticon and Pyrexia Ship Sets are now available
None of the images loaded for me. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon9.gif
|
Re: Ticon and Pyrexia Ship Sets are now available
Nor for me.
Edit: Oh, now they work. Must've been too eager. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif Um, they all look keen to me. I've not seen the ship you're trying to make it look like, but from my aesthetic viewpoint, they're all good. #3 seems a good choice amongst the three, although #1 is an interesting variant since it has straight struts. Re: Ticon and Pyrexia Ship Sets are now available
Number 3.
|
Re: Ticon and Pyrexia Ship Sets are now available
Well, they loaded for me.
Anyway, I'd say #2 from the top row, but #3 from the bottom. On the top row, #2's greater highlight on the leading edge of it's port nacelle really shows that it's a slightly-curved downsweep. However, on the bottom, that same line of highlight is a bit TOO much; the more-subdued highlight along the port nacelle in #3 works much better. I don't see any significant conflicts in appearance between the two I've picked, either, so they should work together as portrait and mini. Color-wise: a bit more blue woudl be nice, but then I'm prejudiced towards that color. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif |
Re: Ticon and Pyrexia Ship Sets are now available
Thanks guys, of the two colors, mini 1 and the others which color looks the best in your opinions?
I like the color of mini 2 and 3 over mini 1. The ship is based upon the Dominion Battle Cruiser. I have finally gotten some good 3d renderingso of it and can look at it from all angles. My prototypes were very good and I have received a nice complment on all of my ships. |
Re: Ticon and Pyrexia Ship Sets are now available
2 or 3. One looks too pushed down, i think.
Could be used for larger ship size with appropriate scaling. |

Re: Ticon and Pyrexia Ship Sets are now available
The color schemes don't look very Romulan to me. But good ships nonetheless.
You should stop with the Trek sets and make more non-sci-fi canon sets. Trek is very creatively limiting. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif |
Re: Ticon and Pyrexia Ship Sets are now available
Mini images are almost identical http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon9.gif
My major complaint about many shipsets is that authors focus too much on portraits. But it is MINI images that decides how good the shipset will look in SE games ! |
Re: Ticon and Pyrexia Ship Sets are now available
Ooooooooooooo. Blue! NICE!
|
Re: Ticon and Pyrexia Ship Sets are now available
Bule? I think Dominion ships should keep a violet color but a not so saturated shade.
IMHO many of your latest shipsets have over-saturated colors, but are excellent anyway. I like the Romulan ones, perhaps the angle of the light can be adjusted so the side of the main hull is not so dark. Not vert Romulan colors? the shades of green look fine to me, but I'm not so sure about those redish spots. And don't listen to Fyron, we need good pictures of all Trek races. |
Re: Ticon and Pyrexia Ship Sets are now available
Nice ships Atrocities!
which rendering / drawing program do you use? i've been toying with the idea to create my own custom shipsets but so far its pretty difficult initially i was thinking of using autocad http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif recently i've been toying with Rhinoceros... keep up the good work m8 |
Re: Ticon and Pyrexia Ship Sets are now available
Those are some nice looking ships. I agree with Andres, they do appear over saturated, and ya the light angle on the Rom ships would be better served at a differant angle.
He uses a program, IIRC named DOGA. He is the DOGA king. |

The reddish spots are definitely not Romulan. I was more talking about the patterns on the ships, which do not look like Romulan ships at all. This is why he should make non-Trek sets; no silly complaints like this. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif [ July 29, 2003, 05:22: Message edited by: Imperator Fyron ] |

or do you all use doga? whats the pro's and con's of it? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif |

Cool work Atrocities!!
That's right I use 3ds Max. I had actually used AutoCAD in my first attempts, I work in architecture and that's a program I was familiar with, but I never got to understand the more complicated rendering stuff. The Niridia shipset was made in autocad and exported into 3dsMax for the final touches and rendering. And Captain Kwok uses Moray+POV-Ray. Check this topic about 3d tools. |

Atrocities:
I think the Ticon Consortium is your best work to date. My only suggestion would be to improve the scale between the different ship sizes. [ August 02, 2003, 18:01: Message edited by: Captain Kwok ] |
Re: Ticon and Pyrexia Ship Sets are now available
Just a suggestion - almost all shipsets keep the same color gamma throught all ships. Sometimes it makes very different to pick up mini-ship images on the map. I think it would be nice if you indroduce slightly different shades to ship types. Like warships are deep blue, carriers are sky blue, transports are violet blue, etc. Just to make ships more telling from the first glance.

Romulan Starcat I changed the name of the thread because I have been asking my self this question for weeks now. Why bother with new ship sets? I mean the game already have over 200 ship sets and who would want more? The answer is simple, me. I love, rather really enjoyed, making ship sets. I enjoy the time I spend creating the images in my minds eye and sharing them with people who may or may not appreciate them. The fact that an image concept can go from thought to pratical game use in less than eight hours is amazing to me. I really enjoy it when a design comes together, and often really get depressed when a design fails. Note the Romulan ships. I started these before I did the set for Fyron, and have been debating whether or not to work on making a complete set. But once again the question comes up, why bother? I honestly don't know why I should, but I will more than likely do it out of bordom. [ August 07, 2003, 16:02: Message edited by: Atrocities ] |

Re: Ticon and Pyrexia Ship Sets are now available
Every time I start a new game (solo), I want to have an element of surprise when encounter other empires. That is not easy when you played SE for I don't know, 1000 times? This is why I have 100+ ship sets and add every new one I like.
More is better ! |
Re: Ticon and Pyrexia Ship Sets are now available
The new romulan ships rock Atrocities. The Romulans are my favourite star trek race ship wise and i know for a fact that even after starfury is released i'm going to come back to space empires iv. So any more shipsets created is good news. I like to be suprised as well when playing seiv so when new shipsets come out i always add them.
The only criticism i can offer is perhaps the romulan ships are to light. But i can live with that as the models are great! I always wanted to fly around in a custom made Romulan warbird! |

I'm also a big fan of the Romulan ships. I do hope you complete this set, Atrocities!
PS. I'm amazed that you can do a set in eight hours. It took me a year to do my first (and only) set. I was just asking myself the same question as you were, but for a different reason. Is it worth starting a new SE4 shipset with Moray/Povray, or will SE5 be out before I'm finished? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif |

Re: Ticon and Pyrexia Ship Sets are now available
IMHO I think the ships would look better with a rough texture rather than normal or metallic.
But that's just my humble, unimportant opinion. They look great as they are though. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif |

I am going to post for download all of the ships I have finished for the Neo-Standard sets. Also the Ticon and Pyrexia races will be done later this week as well. |

The Pyrexia can now be dowloaded. They are a Neo-Standard compliant ship set as well.

A great shipset Atrocities. I like the uniqueness about the engines and the guns. Though i'm suprised that the description isn't more war like. But i can always edit that for personal use. As usual amazing work http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

Re: Ticon and Pyrexia Ship Sets are now available
Atrocities, I have a noble task for you :
Please make a gorgeous Vulcan ship set. I found the current V. shipset lacking. Just IMHO. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif |
Re: Ticon and Pyrexia Ship Sets are now available
I tend to agree with you in that regard Oleg. The Vulcan set does suck. With the Three Vulcan ships that we have seen in the Enterprise series it is possible that a new set could be developed.
We'll see. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif You could always make a fine set as well, your Tholian set is by far one of the best Star Trek sets out. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif |
