Re: OT - Computer Pioneer or Serial Killer?

Given 50/50 choices 5 out of 10 is standard, so 7 is just a standard lucky deviation http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif
Too bad that many pictures were too blurred to see much detail or recognize faces.

I got 5. I recognized Berkowitz. So on the other nine I did worse then random guessing. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif

Re: OT - Computer Pioneer or Serial Killer?

Not having recognized a single one of the individuals, I managed to score 8 out of 10. Some of the killers were "off" because they were creepy, while the programers were "off" because they were often unkempt. I don't know if I was just lucky or not, but I'm hoping that my "judge by the cover" ability serves if I ever bump into one of these guys (mass murderer I mean http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif )

Re: OT - Computer Pioneer or Serial Killer?

I scored 8 out of 10. I picked "programmer" if the guy looked like a smart guy, and otherwise I picked "killer". I didn't recognize a single one.

Great. It is just these kinds of stereotyping that keep me out of a job. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon8.gif

8 out of 10. Beards are a dead giveaway (pun intended...) http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

Only slightly off-topic is this gem of a list I came across awhile back...

Here are the top twelve things likely to be overheard if you had a Klingon programmer working for you:

12. Specifications are for the weak and timid!

11. This machine is a piece of puktaH. I need dual Pentium processors if I am to do battle with this code!

10. You cannot really appreciate Dilbert unless you have read it in the original Klingon.

9. Indentation? I will show you how to indent when I indent your skull!

8. What is this talk of "release"? Klingons do not make software "releases." Our software "escapes", leaving a bloody trail of designers and quality assurance people in its wake.

7. Klingon function calls do not have "parameters." They have "arguments" - and they always win them.

6. Debugging? Klingons do not debug. Our software does not coddle the weak.

5. I have challenged the entire quality assurance team to a Bat'Leth contest. They will not concern us again.

4. A true Klingon warrior does not comment his code.

3. By filing this defect report you have challenged the honor of my family. Prepare to die.

2. You question the worthiness of my code. I should kill you where you stand.

1. Our Users will know fear, and cower before our software. Ship it! Ship it and let them flee like the dogs they are!

A Klingon programer would have committed suicide rather than live with the dishonor that was MOO3!

Hmmm.... I got them all right, and yet, for some reason I only scored a 9 out of ten... odd.

8 out of 10 for me. The "Son of Sam" was the only one I recognized, so all my other guesses were pure %100 bovine poop http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

10 for 10. Didn't recognize any of them, just went by feel.

It tells me that my liver is safe.

Haha, I'd spot Hannibal Lecter in seconds at an Open Source conference. My liver's safe.

I just said "killer" if I looked in their eyes and felt a kinship with them.
