OT: Neighboors Should Be Shot!

Do you hate your neighboors? Well tonight takes the cake for me:

The ungrateful teenager living across from me almost died tonight because he was passed out drunk after leaving food on the stove which started a fire.

I was laying in bed (around 4:30am est) when his smoke alarm started going off. I looked out my bedroom window and saw his livingroom lights on, but nothing else. The alarm went off, but came back on again after a minute or so. This time I got dressed and went outside. I peeked inside the livingroom window and saw him passed out on the couch, and a whole lot of smoke building up.

I called 911, and after hanging up with them, a couple of my other neighboors woke up too. We banged on the door and windows but the drunk wouldn't wake.

At that point the Fire Department arrived, and took over for one of my neighboors, who was trying to rip the windows out of their frame so we could get to the teenager.

Now, just as the Fire Department breaks down his door, the drunk a$$ wakes up, and starts to curse and mouth off to the Firefighters! The Fire Dept is trying to ask him if there's anyone else in the house (which there was: his mom and her boyfriend) but all this kid can do is worry about the broken window and door.

I've lived in this neighboorhood for over 10 years, and this kid (I can't think of him as an adult) has been a growing pain in our a$$. He's always drunk or stoned, and the friends and lowlifes he attracts are always drunk or stoned or starting fights (they smashed a neighboor's car winshield earlier in the year). I've heard from the other neighboors that his mom has gotten a few warnings about being evicted if this crap continued, but after tonight's display i'm gonna make sure the landlord knows what's going down. We've already had 2 other cooking fires happen from other nearby neighboors over the Last 4 months, so i'm sure this won't please the landlord at all (we live in a row of two-storey townhouses, if you're wondering).

I just can't believe how he treated the Fire Deptarment: he curses at them for trying to save his family's life! A vengeful part of me wishes I hadn't called 911, and let the little **** die of smoke inhalation. Christ I hate alcoholics...

Anyhoo, that's my 6:00am rant. There's no point in sleeping now, so i'll catch up on some PBW games and try to calm my nerves.

Feel free to share your stories about your horrific neighboors here. I'm sure you guys have doozies too.

THe Last place I lived there was a gay couple across the hall from us. They were good neighbours, however one day we knocked on the door and one of them answered wearing nothing but cling film...

This story begs the question "WTF were the mom and the boyfriend doing??" Based on how the kid turned out perhaps they were stoned or passed out too.
I almost feel sorry for the kid because based on what you told us his mom lets her teenage kid drink and smoke pot at home?? Sounds like another kid Fu^*&% up by unbeleivably bad parenting.

Hey all. I'm currently moving out of my apartment. I'll miss some PBW turns, so this is kinda on topic. Sorry for ruining this off topic thread like that. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif

/rant mode

O.K. my rent is inexpensive. I'll grant that. But the people upstairs have driven me consistently nuts. They walk like a herd of elephants, never at the hours of 4:30 to 7 pm. Oh no. The proper time for dragging furniture, walking rapidly back and forth for an hour, vacuuming, hammering cabinets, and dropping heavy objects is between the hours of 11:00 and 2:30 AM.
But don't worry about getting an early start, they start again at 5:00 AM.

Yay. 3 hours of sleep for me. Then it's off to have a full day at a job where I'm hardly appreciated. Sheesh.

To quote the bard of South Park. "Fudge 'em" Fudge'em all. I'm moving back to mom's house. It's all paid for, so when I get a lower paying job locally, I'll be money ahead. The neighbors there suck too. But at least they're 3 meters away most of the time. And nobody tap dances on my head.

*SIGH* The guys over my head are a pair of Russian retirees. Perhaps with a third convalescent guy. They don't work. Probably, their kids are coming in late at night to help out. Thing is ... this is their life...permanantly.

My sister has the same problem. The people over her head vacuum at any time. Constantly. They are living off their disability payments. They have no reason to start working, live normal hours, or *shock* *horror* *gasp* save money, and advance their situation.

Contrast that with the people in the apartment beneath me. Working two jobs, and going to community college. They'd like to rest for a few hours, but the guy next to me just took in his friend. Divorced, on a fixed income, he lets his friend play guitar late into the night. Do I like his acoustic rendition of "Ziggy Stardust"? Sure. Could someone tell him that floor isn't a stage, and doesn't need his foot to keep the beat?

Well, I'm signing off soon. I have to patch the holes I bashed in the ceiling with that broom handle. Those Russians don't know how lucky they are I don't own a shotgun. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon8.gif

You would be surprised what stories you get yourself into as a paramedic...
Sometimes you are glad that the Cops just move in and ask questions later when you call them as paramedic.

Re: OT: Neighboors Should Be Shot!

I used to live with a room mate who sometimes decided to play his drums at 2 am in the morning. He would invite a bunch of friends and have late night parties. He wouldn't ask me or warn me about these parties; I found out about them when the loud noise woke me up in the middle of the night. My roommate didn't have a job, and apparently, none of his buddies had to go to work in the morning either, because by morning I found them passed out all over the house. I did have to get up early to go to work, so I was very angry about not being able to sleep. When these guys started bLasting the stereo and playing drums, I'd go out there, turn off the music and yell at these guys to be quiet, and then go back to bed. But a couple of minutes later, they would start again. Then I go and yell at them again. But it was completely futile to try to get these people to quiet down. They were a bunch of inconsiderate jerks and also drunk. I came close to smashing the drums and the stereo and chucking them out the window. A sledgehammer would have come in handy, but I didn't have one. Fortunately I didn't punch the guy in the nose, because there were about five of them and a couple of them were big guys, so a fight wouldn't have been a good idea. I was very tired the next day. It was impossible to reason with my roommate or any of his friends, so on other occasions when he had these parties, I tried to sleep by wearing ear plugs, or I drove away a few blocks and slept in my car. This didn't work very well. I don't live with him anymore.

Being what I consider to be a considerate human being, the actions described below are so alien to me that I can't begin to understand what goes through their minds. I'm a bit older now and less likely to "look the other way". Unfortunately, I've gotten to the point where my only comment about people like that is that I hope they die soon. (sorry to admit it...I'm just of the opinion they'll not be missed much by society).

Those stories Sound pretty bad. I'm glad I haven't had anything like that happen to me. I hate it when people are so inconsiderate of others.

A couple I know (not my neighbours http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif ) used to be disturbed at all hours by extremely vocal and descriptive sex from next door.

I suggested they get a porn dvd, push the speakers up to the wall on max volume, put it on repeat and then go on holiday for a fortnight. They moved house instead... how boring.

Last year I had neighbors who did not clean up after themselves... at ALL. The floor was covered in trash, leading to a god awful stink. I was ready to start shooting or something...

Re: OT: Neighboors Should Be Shot!

This was YEARS ago:

My grandfather rented a small house to a loser (also single) mother and her 3 daughters. The daughter were 5, 12, and 13. I was 19 and rented a basement "apartment" a few houses down.

Various men in various stages of drunkeness came and went to this ladies house. Her 5-year-old girl smoked cigarettes. The 2 older daughters drank, smoked, and (gulp), sniffed gasoline when they could get some. The oldest, 13, wanted to have sex with me. I'll admit she was a bit cute, nice and slender (like I like them). BUT, statutory rape and noticing her failure to stay obviously clean (her hair was dirty and ratty, fingernails were dirty, dirt between her fingers, and dirty clothing, etc.) was a "kind" turnoff. Even though I was a horny teenager.

Eventually, they left after failing to pay the rent several months in a row. When my grandfather and I went to take a look at the house after they left, it was trashed! Speaking of trash, they emptied the garbage cans in the corners of various rooms (and had been for several weeks). BIG holes were punched in the walls and trash was thrown in there. The toilet was stopped up and rather than plunge it, they had "done their business" on the screened-in back porch...for several weeks. Even had toilet paper sitting on the floor for use after they were done.

I remember thinking then that I'd never EVER rent out a house that I owned. (also, thanked my upright-walking God that I had had the good sense to stay out of the oldest daughter's pants!)

Re: OT: Neighboors Should Be Shot!

I had a neighbor who was a divorced mother with two children (16 and 12, I think). These two boys were almost always yelling at each other. Sometimes they would rig up the karaoke set on the porch and bLast away all afternoon. Since their porch faced away from our house it wasn't too bad, I could drown out their noise by closing all my windows and turning up my stereo. But no one in the neighborhood was sad to see them go.

There was another couple that rented the house behind ours, both houses were built in such a way that we had to share our garage. They were very nice people but their visitors would often park their cars across the garage doors just before my wife got home from work. The guy was always going off somewhere in the middle of the night and we were really suspicious for a while, but later on we found out he was the senior (maybe the only) computer guy at a small company and they'd call him up whenever they had the slightest problem.

All in all, not as bad as some of the other stories here.

Re: OT: Neighboors Should Be Shot!

I've had roommates ever since my parents threw me out (I still thank them for that), and until recently that meant I lived in a Party House. The kids, yeah kids, called it the Hacker House, much to my annoyance.

Anyway, I never brought the party, but I eventually got the idea that I couldn't fight it and started taking advantage of it. Thirty to Forty young people under the influence of various substances (no, bad things weren't allowed in the house, but the kids regularly came over with it in their system) can mean an interesting time: "Oh hi, you must be Susan, Roger was telling me about you. Oh, you're Jessica? I don't believe we've met. My name is...". Yeah it could work out well at times.

Anyway, I just got used to late nights and made the best of it.

I did have to throw some people out, as I ended up in charge of the place after the first couple years, but I just chalk that up to Learning Experience. You don't Find Good Roommates, you know, you Find Roommates and Throw Out Bad Roommates.

As far as neighbors go, though, we were the bad ones. I've got some crazy stories, but wouldn't be able to tell most of them. I could still get in trouble.
