My PBW games
I have not yet been able to iron out the difficulties I have been having, either with my ISP/email or accessing PBW. I can occasionally get the main page, but I cannot load anything past that point using either the text or the graphics interfaces. Because I have not been able to participate in these games, I feel I should withdraw from them. The other players deserve the best challenge they can get, not an absent player.
Will the owners of the following games please remove me: Networks II, Enormity, Proportions, and Ankle-Biters. I am also in a KOTH game, which I resign. I apologize for dropping out. I wish I could continue until replacements can be found, but the nature of the problem does not permit it. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon9.gif My humble apologies for the disruption this causes. |
Re: My PBW games
If no one takes your spot, you are welcome to jump back in when the problem is cleared up.
Good luck figuring out that prob! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif |
Re: My PBW games
Have you tried playing with your browser settings at all? What browser do you use? Any problems with other websites? Have you tried the text UI or the Graphic UI? Same problems with both? Would using RTC be an option to stay in your games until you can figure out what's wrong?

Re: My PBW games
Or what about having the turns e-mailed - even if you can't access PBW to change the setting yourself, I'm sure it wouldn't be too hard for Geo or someone to get in and do, right? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

Re: My PBW games
I'm using IE 6.0, although I've had the same problems using Mozilla, I don't know if RTC would work for me, and I guess I could have game turns sent to my Yahoo address, although I'd have to clear it out very quickly--it seems to re-fill with spam before the server's done deleting the first stack. My concern there was that I'd missed several turns using email send-in--apparently my ISP and PBW's are slow to connect. Probably some territorial war in which all the pawns are the victims. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/tongue.gif
I have gone through nearly every permutation of the applicable settings in my browser, and nothing works (literally--I took five minutes to write a script which would spew out all the combinations and crossed them out one by one). http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon9.gif I did hear from my ISP tonight--they replied to my nag-mail with a general "we're still working on it and we're glad you're still paying us money" response. I've just about given up hope that my mail is still floating around out there somewhere *cue Fievel soundtrack*. |
Re: My PBW games
I highly suggest at least trying the RTC. All the files you need for it are on the Gold CD, including the Sun java JRE. Unless you are behind some firewall that blocks the ports RTC uses you shouldn't have a problem with it.
The email is an option, but it's not the most reliable for some people. Geoschmo EDIT: And by the way, did you try the graphic and Text UI? I didn't see an answer to that question. [ September 15, 2003, 04:01: Message edited by: geoschmo ] |
Re: My PBW games
I think he mentioned it in his first message that neither the text or graphics mode works for him...but I may have misunderstood.
As to the Anklebiters game, I'm content to wait. It's not really started yet and would be easy to fill without disturbing the game but I can wait. |
Re: My PBW games
Ah, I see that now. That's wierd. I have neard of people having trouble with one or the other but never both.

Re: My PBW games
*pokes Krsqk*
so, should we continue the RP without you? *wonder's if it can even be revived. thing has more brushes with death than a chicken in a fox-coop* |
Re: My PBW games
*feels poke in ribs*
*wonders if the alarm clock is going off and wife is suggesting that it be turned off* *decides feigned sleep is best option* *feels harder poke, hears sound of ribs cracking* *decides that definitely isn't wife* *cautiously opens one bleary eye with aid of thumb and forefinger* "unnnnnnnh...is...some...one...out...there...? " *SNERK* Actually, I had forgotten about the RP. I'll read through it again from the beginning, but it may be a day or so before I can get to it. I have oodles of grades to enter yet tonight, and tomorrow my wife and I have the privilege(?) of filling in for my boss at a banquet (he had a prior appointment at the rodeo with his boys and wouldn't accept my offer to stand in for him there instead http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/tongue.gif ). It'll most likely be late Fri. or sometime Sat. before I can get to it, unless the comp wants to be my friend tonight. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...s/rolleyes.gif |
Re: My PBW games
ok. now all i have to do is hope Jack hasn't got himself entangled in something.
on the plus side, we don't have any druids...although the wolf came close. no presure. *waits for someone to get confused. people do that when this roleplay is discussed* |

Do you know where the "Come visit our shiny new DO RP thread" thread is? Shrapnel Search doesn't seem to like me, for some reason. |
Re: My PBW games
it's simple. a chicken in a fox-coop is gonna have a lotta brushes with death.
it doesn't seem to like me either. |

Umm, narf - are you okay?

Re: My PBW games
anyway, i think it went off the deep end of the forums. i used netscape to look for the letter's 'DO' and didn't find anything.

Re: My PBW games
Hey Krsqk. You going to come back to PbC and regulate our spend-happy selves?

Re: My PBW games
I'm weighing my options with PBC. On the one hand, I enjoy the job and the game. On the other, I am rapidly running out of free time. I look back now at the push for a four- or five-day turn time, and I wish I had pushed for four or five weeks. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...s/rolleyes.gif
In short, I am debating whether I need to surrender my MoF position. I have been keeping up with the game as much as possible; I just haven't been able to do all the time-intensive data entry and calculations. Maybe it's time for someone with a little more free-handed fly-by-the-seat-of-your-pants approach to take over. I definitely want to keep my Necropolis post, although it might become a little dangerous with this upcoming war. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon8.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon9.gif |
