1.) I think you can only have two weapon families. 2.) There is no way to give the AI a head start the way you described it. You could go the road of a special AI tech tree that has very low costs however. 3.) You can disable the music and play anything you like in the background with the WMP or Winamp. Works great, I do this all the time. |

Any music CD placed in the drive will be used by SE4. Look in Settings.txt for the specific tracks used by combat, the main game, the title screen, etc. You can even burn your own custom CD with music from various Sci-Fi games/movies/etc. (such as ST, SW, B5, etc.) and that will work great too! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif

1. Is it possible to add more 'Weapon Family Picks' to the Ai design creation (or is it limited by 5 entries)? example: Majority Weapon Family Pick 1 := 9 Majority Weapon Family Pick 2 := 1 Majority Weapon Family Pick 3 := 25 Majority Weapon Family Pick 4 := 0 Majority Weapon Family Pick 5 := 0 Majority Weapon Family Pick 6 := 0 Majority Weapon Family Pick 7 := 0 Majority Weapon Family Pick 8 := 0 Majority Weapon Family Pick 9 := 0 Majority Weapon Family Pick 10 := 0 Majority Weapon Family Pick ..... aso... ------------------------------------------------- 2. In the start setup you can choose 'Technology level for new player'(Player settings). It is possible to start with a low technology level and the AI starts with a medium technology level in the same game? This would give the Ai a great start bonus and makes the game really hard to play. 3. Last but not least a question about the background music: is it possible to change the music? Yes, I need more than 5. I am currently working on a new mod, it includes a lot of new weapons (50 beam weapons right now). The cost of a new weapon research is set very high and so it takes a while until the AI will research the next generation of weapon. If they all share the same family you need just one entry. i really don't know what your MOD will look like but as an AI modder there is one question I have: How is the AI supposed to keep up with the nessesacry research (especially when is is expensive)? Should it really research 50 different weapon families? Why don't pick one good for the start, one good for a middle game and one for the end? Just my 0.02€

You could have it select additional weapon types for a single design by using bogus abilities instead of weapon families, but overloading weapon families would work better if you mean to have weapons obsolete each other, rather than needing many families of weapon on a single ship.
Programming a willing human is often easier than programming an AI. To give the AI a head start in research, just voluntarily restrict your own research for the desired number of turns, according to whatever rules you invent. As for cheese, it really belongs in SPACE FOOD EMPIRES mod - I was shocked to see that it is not there. Someone should petition Captain Kwok. PvK |
