Re: Has anybody gotten an Email like this, asking you to "send SE4gold" to the sender?
I have gotten one and responded telling him to buy it from shrapnel that I could not afford to send him one. No sense in being rude.
Besides I can always add him to my ignor list if I need too. The thing is if he is emailing a bunch of us, how did he get all of our emails? Oh well, it could just be some kid who wants to have the game and does not want to pirate it. [ November 01, 2003, 00:30: Message edited by: Atrocities ] |
Re: Has anybody gotten an Email like this, asking you to "send SE4gold" to the sender?
It is 99.9% likely that it is a would-be pirate, not a kid...
Getting emails is easy. They can be gotten off of this forum or PBW. |
Re: Has anybody gotten an Email like this, asking you to "send SE4gold" to the sender?
I like the suggestion to sign him up for spam lists. A good way to do this is by posting to Usenet with his email address. You can even do this 'honestly' by posting questions to various games or admin.* Groups asking for advice about his request and including the full email and headers (erm, with your OWN email removed to preserve your own privacy from the spammers.. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif Or if you're really evil you could post _AS_ him and do something nasty to get him in additional trouble. Address 'harvesters' will then pick up the address and add it to lots of spam lists at once. This is much more efficient than going out a manually filling in forms. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

Re: Has anybody gotten an Email like this, asking you to "send SE4gold" to the sender?
Hrmm... asking for it via E-mail... how silly. SE4 has been out long enough that you can easily find it on various P2P networks, as much as I disagree with that it is still a fact. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon9.gif

In my research on this issue, I have yet to find SE4G on any P2P network.

Re: Has anybody gotten an Email like this, asking you to "send SE4gold" to the sender?
True enough that this person might be a pirate, but what if he is just some guy from the UK who has no money?
We should not assume the worst until more info is known. Then again this could be just a prank to see what we will do. I for one think it best to let the subject die. |
Re: Has anybody gotten an Email like this, asking you to "send SE4gold" to the sender?
I will not give out the name of the P2P program I used to find SE4G and Starfury and DO and SE3. That would just be asking for trouble. I think the subject should be allowed to die down as well.
No good comes of these discussions. |
Re: Has anybody gotten an Email like this, asking you to "send SE4gold" to the sender?
I wonder why it is that Cats have to be in the same room as you are in? My two cats have full access to one entire room, that has their food, water, and way in and out of the house. Why is it then that they paw at the door and mewo until I let them into the rest of the house. From their they camp our in my bed room and or in the spare room? I mean I am not that nice to them, I simply feed them and occationaly pet them. I would prefer to harras them and chase them with the vaccum cleaner for ****s and giggles.
Regardless of my treatment, they both desire to be near me. Most odd. |
Re: Has anybody gotten an Email like this, asking you to "send SE4gold" to the sender?
My previous cats did that as well. Just jump up on you and demand attention then onto the keyboard, the monitor... wherever else they could get on that they were certain you didn't want them to get on...
Actually my sisters Pug(the breed of dog found in the Men in Black movies as Frank) does this as well. However in the case of a dog it is less distracting as the best he can hope for is jumping into my lap and not the keyboard or the monitor. Though I must note that when he falls asleep on me or aroudn me his snoring can be quite distracting. And lets not even mention when he has gas. |
Re: Has anybody gotten an Email like this, asking you to "send SE4gold" to the sender?
cats view you as their tribe. and tribes stick together. plus, it's so funny to see your reaction when you don't want them there.

Send it as you go to bed so it does not impact your activity. It will piss him off. He will have to DL it, or call his mailserver to get it deleated. Remember to send it as a bunch of smaller files, so it will just leave off some of the attachments when his box overflows. Then send his address to a few known spam lists. Re: Has anybody gotten an Email like this, asking you to "send SE4gold" to the sender?
I have an older cat, she is about 11 now. She is one of those cats that hates everyone except me. She hated me at first too, but because of some thing I did, she had grown into a good companion. I brought over my Male from my old house and he is a very amlicable cat, and does try to get along with her with friendly no offense chips and suttle meows, but Momma, or ***** Kitty as she has become known as, want nothing to do with him. She is this way will all cats, and most poeple. She will hiss, spit, and growl pretty much non stop until she finds a nice dark and secluded place to hide. Which ironically often pisses me off because it is a place she should not be. I am patient and seldom loose my cool with her, but at times I have gotten quite peeved and thrown your angry *** out side. But she is old and I often feel bad afteward and go get her. She will hiss at me when the male cat is around, but when he is not, she is friendly once again. I know its a territory thing, she has had free reign here for over a decade now, and this young buck comes into the picture and she wants no part of it. Damn kids.

Well, he did say if there is anything he could offer you in return to name it. Tell him you'd be happy to send him a copy of Se4, for 39.95 + shipping. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif

No one said he was smart, just he/she/it was a pirate.
I got an email like that once and I sent back a reply with a CC to thier ISP and mail provider. |

This would turn you from the self righteous person you feel yourself to be into one of those complete a-holes that spread viruses. You would then be no better than a pirate and perhaps just a wee bit worse. Need I remind you that knowingly spreading viruses is illegal and in many states and countries can land you in prison. |

If he is not a pirate, then I hope he can someday afford to "buy" a copy of the game. UPDATE: This is an email I received from David D. today. I sincerely hope that this shows you all that to suspect the worst is not always the case. Quote:

SE4's not exactly one where the gaming community is likely to fall for that... maybe he should have asked for UT2k3 http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif ) You know, I wonder what happens when one undercover cop tries to sell drugs to another undercover cop... what's the cop etiquettte for that situation? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif |

Re: Has anybody gotten an Email like this, asking you to "send SE4gold" to the sender?
First time seeing this thread.
First off do not send this guy a virus, that's illegal and could get you in a LOT of trouble. If you want send me his info and I'll deal with him, I want to know where he got the email addresses. Unless he has a program that scammed them from the board or such. |
Re: Has anybody gotten an Email like this, asking you to "send SE4gold" to the sender?
Richard I think that goes without saying, but I for one am glad that you said it. I noticed that only a couple of people were civil about this and seemed to not jump to conclusions. I salute you. I also received an email and was kind to respond with instruction on how to order the game. I am certain that this person ment no ill toward Malfador or the game.
We might have just spooked a potential buy away and that is not good. Then again if he was a pirate, a cop, or whatever, at least he did not obtain information on how to get a pirated copy. I hope that NON of you sent him one. This is one of the oldest tricks in the book. If you want to see who is providing pirated copies of your software you mail all those most likely to be guilty and see how takes the bait. |
