OT: My Lot In Life

I was watching TV today and saw an ad for www.eharmony.com and decided to take their free personallity test.

Eharmony boasts that they the have hundreds of thousands of people using their services so I figure what the hell, I'll give it a shot.

After spending the Last hour answering their question truthfully, I get this message.

Quote:

eHarmony is based upon a complex matching system developed through extensive testing of married individuals. One of the requirements for it to work successfully is for participants to fall into our rigorously defined profiles. If we aren't able to match a user well using these profiles, the most considerate approach is to inform them early in the process.

We are so convinced of the importance of creating compatible matches to help people establish and enjoy happy, Lasting relationships that we choose not to provide service rather than risk an uncertain match.

Unfortunately, we are not able to make our profiles work for you. Our matching system is not suitable for about 20% of potential Users, so 1 in 5 people simply would not benefit from our service. We hope that you understand that we regret our inability to provide service for you at this time.
<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">I don't know if I should laugh or cry. But this is the story of my life.... LOL

I go back and redo the test and lie a bit here and their and presto I have 100's of matches. Most of the women are looking for rich super male models who are easily controlled, faithful, and willing to spend millions on them. I guess I don't fit that bill.

Take the test, use a fake email though, and see how well you do.

I will give them this, their personality profile is pretty much spot on though.

<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">Consider the Last year, and answer the following questions:

1) When someone calls you for dinner do you think:
a) "Yay, food!"
or
b) "Mmm, I wonder what kinds of spices and herb are in this?"

2) How many times a week do you pull out a cookbook?

3) How long was your longest streak of eating the same thing in a row for some particular meal?

-----

My answers would be:
- A
- Zero
- Two months

Thus, Eating is not an interest for me http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

Ok try this, go back and say that your physically fit, active, love sports, love to cuddle, and are economically well off. Then see how many hits you get.

Also don't limit your settings to your area, say the entire country. I did that and I still had no matches and my personality profile suggests that I would make a fine catch for any women.

Before I stuck my head in the oven, you have to consider the women who frequent those sites. They are usually either lonely women with little social contact living their lives through television and Oprah, or they are the pretty but oh-so-shallow types who end up being sales reps for companies, marketing types, etc, and no one can meet the ideal image they have in mind. The nice girl down the street who likes you for your combination of faults and good attributes just isn't on these things. Don't give it a second thought. Most women, if you show them honest appreciation and make them feel a bit special (they all want to be treated like princesses to some degree) will overlook just about anything except for not appreciating them.

Woot! A match.

It restores my faith in the system that they tell me about my match, allow me to compose a message or choose from their list of 'safe' questions, and only then start talking about the bill.

Very nicely done.

Maybe someday when I have money (like when I have these dang rooms filled), I'll put some of it into something like this. Looks at least as entertaining as another night at the Meat Market.

<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">Well spoken. The problem is more and more women are growing out of childhood as shallow barby stereo type premadonnas (sp). They want the rock star, the buff foot ball player and think very lowely of normal guys.

At least in my area the female scene has gone from good to very bad in a short period of time. 90% of the girls coming out of hi-school and college that are 18 and over act more and more like they are only interested in partying, night life, bizzar sex, and want nothing to do with any thing that reminds them of responsiblity or their parents. IE any man who is not wealthy has no purpose to them and they will tell you that up front. It is a sad environment.

Where have all the nice ladies gone?

Those 18 year old girls will do alot of growing up all the way to 30. People tend to get less shallow, less conceited as they get older. When I was 18 all I wanted was a busty blond. Well a few years later I settled for a nice little goth girl and years after that my tastes changed even more. Society is however putting more emphasis on peoples buying power now. There is pressure to buy the sexy clothes younger, Drink the drink everyone loves. Consume, consume, consume. That's what makes people shallow now.

<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">Well, for those susceptible to marketing pressures, that's pretty true, but I think the majority of folks are still pretty down to earth once you get them to open up. The people who actually believe drinking the right beer will get them laid are hopeless to begin with, but that's more a personality set than an intellectual one. I think the biggest problem is that people in relationships have forgotten that 1) they are founded on respect, 2) require a real commitment and most importantly 3) they require work and maintenance to succeed. I am going to sound very sexist here, but I think this problem is more of an issue with women than men. Why? Because men for the most part have to work to establish and maintain a relationship with a woman to a greater degree, while they (women) are the responders to such. I'm not absolving men of having many of the same perceptual problems... but women are certainly less inclined to "stick it out" if they think they aren't getting what they deserve. Unfortunately, as you said, the whole marketing set of images that have become part of the American psyche have gotten rid of things like hard work, respect and so on in relationships, and replaced them with idyllic scenes from romance novels. (Some) women lock onto this as very attainable... and then are constantly unhappy, especially when they compare hubby to these images.

That being said, the sheer number of guys who seemed to genuinely think Brittany Spears was the epitome of feminine beauty confounded me to no end; cute yes, but no more than many women you run into at the mall, but pop society painted her as the ideal and the sheep bleated in unison for her.

I fail to see the problem http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/tongue.gif

Well, I don't profess to be a ladies man... but I think one avenue open to most of us is to attend functions like arts, seminars, etc where the types of women we would want go. Now, the computer gaming design committee probably is going to be lacking in females, but things like plays and concerts are packed with them of all ages. If you're like me, and it sounds like you are, you want an attractive female with a brain. These are hard to come by, but they ARE out there... unfortunately, most women seem to cave to the pressure of meeting men by competing with the silly girls that get all the attention early on. Later on men (well, the brighter ones) are tearing their hair out looking for an intelligent woman while many of them have wasted their time and not capitalizing on their potential. Then they complain they don't get any respect and are just considered sex objects http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...s/rolleyes.gif

You also have to keep in mind that like someone said, if the males on here represent only a small fraction of the population... you have to realize that 80% of the women are suitable for the 80% of men out there that are more or less their equals in depth and education. This is not a complement to them btw. Being outside the norm is double-edged sword, but believe me, there are women like us out there wondering where the decent (not rich or famous) guys are too. I still can't understand why bizarre sex is an issue though.... hehe

Among the people I know personally, failed relationships have been 50/50. I am not really qualified to judge anyone, but it seems like the men were to blame about as often as the women.

Down here, high expectations on the part of women usually lead to lots of lonely people - the relationships don't fail because they never get to start. On the other hand, many women I know seem to have this talent for choosing the worst men possible, the ones who are guaranteed to make them unhappy.

And regarding Britney I agree, she is cute but she is not at the top of the beauty scale. In that case, who is ? For starters, try Roselyn Sanchez.
