I use a file with 1000s of names in it and pick a random one myself. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif I even tend to name each ship individually. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/shock.gif

Eh? Set what up? My design name files? They are all in the Design Names Anthology...

I would recommend a program called the Everchanging Book of Names, which is what I used to generate a bunch of Tolkien design name files. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">Eh? put them in a php script that randomly generates say a list of 100 names or so for people. They log onto your web site, go to the NAME GENERATOR, and press generate names. The generator then genorates a list of about 100 random names from the HUGE list you have. Did I answer your Eh? question?

Umm... yeah... or I just point them to the Everchanging Book of Names program and save myself the work. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif Random name generation is rather complicated.

You are an odd one...

se5a, I could not get that generator to work... perhaps it just hates non-IE browsers... will have to check with IE in the morning.

Haha, some of those generators are hilarious.

My favorite website for generating wierd sounding alien names:

http://www.abooks.com/alien/

It generates names randomly, but they follow specific rules regarding combinations of vowels consonants and syllables. The results are random enough to be totally alien, but still are pronouncable words.

Hit refresh to generate new words.
