Are you a geek ? (yeah right, like I need to ask)

Hello, everyone !

Take this test and see how you score. The questions are quite good and up-to-date. Unlike other tests of the kind, you don't have to be American to understand most of them.

The inner geek

My score was 50.(something)% - 'Super Geek'. I blame my dad for allowing me to read his science fiction paperback collection back when I was a kid. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/tongue.gif

Jeeze, what does it take to score high on this thing.

53.0572% - Super Geek

And that's with claiming to still watch television, or reading it as "I ROUTINELY WATCHED..." If I take that literally (and appropriately took the check out of "exaggerated on this test to score better") I only get "48.91519% - Super Geek".

I don't exactly fancy sciences, nor programming or something along these lines, and I don't really like Star Trak or Star Wars either.

However, if fantasy and/or other science fiction authors were involved, and if you remove all the programming stuff and add instead questions such as "how many hours a day do you spend on your computer?" or "do you spend more time on your computer than doing anything else?", my score would then be much higher. Thus the bias for me and the *very* low score. I am still not sure if I should sue the author or rejoice about the outcome though. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

PvK December 5th, 2003 10:22 PM

Re: Are you a geek ? (yeah right, like I need to ask)

It gave my answers a 18.14596% - Geek.

I think the term geek is so subjective it doesn't consistently mean anything, even if it means many different things to different people. Personally, I don't think of myself as a geek, except to mean someone who's interested in intellectual things, including computers, games, and things outside USA pop culture crap. That's one way that it's USA-centric, since USA culture tends to distrust and/or disresepect intellectuals, or anything non-mainstream, or just foreign to the USA. Geek is often a label used by mainstream clods who are afraid to think outside the herd, and so ridicule those who do with a derisive stereotype.

Nonetheless, I can think of several flaws with the test, such as:

The answers don't appear to be waited at all, so "I have Vulcan ears surgically attached" and "I have day-of-the-week underwear" count the same amount as "I play Weird Al Yankovic" or "I own binoculars".

I'd add some more questions (which I'd have to check), such as:

* I criticize the accuracy of this test.
* I have looked at the source code of a web page.
* ... to see how it worked.
* ... to see how this quiz works.

There should also be one for Parasite:

* I figured out that if you click all these boxes, this quiz calls you a liar.
* ... by clicking all the boxes myself.
* ... by reading the source code.
* ... by writing a script to click all the boxes for me.

Ya know, geekdom, like so many other fine qualities attributable to human beings, is necessarily of an esoteric nature. One man's geek is another man's Drew Carey. I mean, we've come a long way since those days when early geeks began by biting the heads off chickens. Geez... now geekdom is practically mainstream. I scored 22.09%, which rates as your common garden variety geek. And yet I steadfastly maintain that mediocrity is the hallmark, and yes, the very soul of geekdom. I wear my score proudly.

*Cries* I don't recall the three missings, or rather, the spellings.
Khajit => Elsweyr? The name is almost Elsewhere, but not quite.
RedGuards => Hammerfall, Illac Bay is merely one place between Hammerfall and the Breton province. Daggerfall is in the Breton province, Sentinel in Hammerfall.
Breton => The province next to Hammerfell where you can go in Daggerfall. Sorry, I forgot the name. (Well, I could check for the name obviously, but...)
Imperials => Cyrodil is the other name for the Imperial Province, is a bit harder to remember heh.
