Are you a geek ? (yeah right, like I need to ask)
Hello, everyone !
Take this test and see how you score. The questions are quite good and up-to-date. Unlike other tests of the kind, you don't have to be American to understand most of them. The inner geek My score was 50.(something)% - 'Super Geek'. I blame my dad for allowing me to read his science fiction paperback collection back when I was a kid. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/tongue.gif |
Re: Are you a geek ? (yeah right, like I need to ask)
I am only a 42.40631% - Major Geek.
Darn. I thought I would score higher. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif |
Re: Are you a geek ? (yeah right, like I need to ask)
~23% That's consistent with the scores I used to get on the nerd test back in the day. Surprising, I thought my Geekiness was slipping (I've definitely become more mainstream since living with a woman)
|
Re: Are you a geek ? (yeah right, like I need to ask)
22.09073% - Geek
(they should have added a block for knowing how to cut and paste the score... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif ) |
Re: Are you a geek ? (yeah right, like I need to ask)
I scored 13.21499% --> Geekish Tendencies
I'm a little dissapointed, I thought I was much more of a Geek than that. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/tongue.gif Cheers! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif |
Re: Are you a geek ? (yeah right, like I need to ask)
i got 19.5% - Geek.
personally, i think it says more that i clicked on 'more RAM' before i clicked on 'more friends'. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif without even thinking about it. |
Re: Are you a geek ? (yeah right, like I need to ask)
Jeeze, what does it take to score high on this thing.
53.0572% - Super Geek And that's with claiming to still watch television, or reading it as "I ROUTINELY WATCHED..." If I take that literally (and appropriately took the check out of "exaggerated on this test to score better") I only get "48.91519% - Super Geek". Wow, that's a relief! For a moment I was worried I would score over 16.66530%!! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...s/rolleyes.gif I humbly kneel/snicker before my higher scoring comrades. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif And yes, I wish I was a Vampire. |

Probably could have a higher score if I got into all those card-game RPGs back in the day. But I think Major Geek fits well http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif |
Re: Are you a geek ? (yeah right, like I need to ask)
I give you all 50% bonus points if you actually continued answering questions after about the first quarter. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/tongue.gif

Re: Are you a geek ? (yeah right, like I need to ask)
40.03945% - Major Geek
Doesn't seem right though - they should somehow compensate for "time-in-grade" as a Geek. (I know there were a few that answered 'before 1996' but they should have also had 'before 1976' for some of us 'I-was-a-geek-before-geek-was-cool' geeks... ) http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/shock.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif |

Yes.

Re: Are you a geek ? (yeah right, like I need to ask)
I only got a 31% but would still like to know what is the odd/even number rule for star trek movies.

even = good |
Re: Are you a geek ? (yeah right, like I need to ask)
Hmm, I'm kind of disappointed. Only scored 21%. I could have sworn I was more geekier than that. Maybe I do have a life afterall.
|
Re: Are you a geek ? (yeah right, like I need to ask)
I did it a while before and scored... Well, between 5 and 6%. Sorry, I haven't pasted the score so. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif Should I leave as it appears I am not a geek according to this test? In all fairness, I shall add I score that low because the questions were biased as far as I am concerned. The question is, was it actually an advantage or not? *Snickers*

However, if fantasy and/or other science fiction authors were involved, and if you remove all the programming stuff and add instead questions such as "how many hours a day do you spend on your computer?" or "do you spend more time on your computer than doing anything else?", my score would then be much higher. Thus the bias for me and the *very* low score. I am still not sure if I should sue the author or rejoice about the outcome though. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif [ December 04, 2003, 20:45: Message edited by: Alneyan ] |

well, the test is based on the auther's idea of what a geek is. since everybody has a different idea, every test will be different.

I'm a total geek.
25.04931% - Total Geek I thought I would score about 30% - what with everybody calling me a nerd and a geek. |

Re: Are you a geek ? (yeah right, like I need to ask)
I have done homework for somebody else - does this count if I got paid to do it?
I ROUTINELY WATCH History or Discovery Channel : Does this still count if my only other options for TV are HGTV, TCM, or QVC? I WANT TO BE (OR HAVE BEEN)a superhero: I want the superpowers, but I don't really want to be a superhero, does that count? 9.86193% - Geekish Tendencies - not to bad |
Re: Are you a geek ? (yeah right, like I need to ask)
Extreme Geek at 60.15779, but i exagerated and claimed a bunch of things that i HAVE done rather than CURRENTLY do.
|
Re: Are you a geek ? (yeah right, like I need to ask)
maybe we could make our own geek poll. one of my contributions would be: how many Elder Scrolls races can you match up with homelands?
7. Nords - Skyrim Wood Elves - Valenwood Dark Elves - Morrowind Argonian - Black Marsh High Elves - Summerset Isle Redgaurds - Iliac Bay Imperials - Imperial Province. half point, at most. |
Re: Are you a geek ? (yeah right, like I need to ask)
63.51085% - Extreme Geek
As with others, I included things that I have done at one time or another, as opposed to things I am currently doing. Using this rule of thumb, geekiness can only increase with age. |
Re: Are you a geek ? (yeah right, like I need to ask)
It gave my answers a 18.14596% - Geek.
I think the term geek is so subjective it doesn't consistently mean anything, even if it means many different things to different people. Personally, I don't think of myself as a geek, except to mean someone who's interested in intellectual things, including computers, games, and things outside USA pop culture crap. That's one way that it's USA-centric, since USA culture tends to distrust and/or disresepect intellectuals, or anything non-mainstream, or just foreign to the USA. Geek is often a label used by mainstream clods who are afraid to think outside the herd, and so ridicule those who do with a derisive stereotype. Nonetheless, I can think of several flaws with the test, such as: The answers don't appear to be waited at all, so "I have Vulcan ears surgically attached" and "I have day-of-the-week underwear" count the same amount as "I play Weird Al Yankovic" or "I own binoculars". I'd add some more questions (which I'd have to check), such as: * I criticize the accuracy of this test. * I have looked at the source code of a web page. * ... to see how it worked. * ... to see how this quiz works. There should also be one for Parasite: * I figured out that if you click all these boxes, this quiz calls you a liar. * ... by clicking all the boxes myself. * ... by reading the source code. * ... by writing a script to click all the boxes for me. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif PvK [ December 05, 2003, 20:37: Message edited by: PvK ] |

Re: Are you a geek ? (yeah right, like I need to ask)
Ya know, geekdom, like so many other fine qualities attributable to human beings, is necessarily of an esoteric nature. One man's geek is another man's Drew Carey. I mean, we've come a long way since those days when early geeks began by biting the heads off chickens. Geez... now geekdom is practically mainstream. I scored 22.09%, which rates as your common garden variety geek. And yet I steadfastly maintain that mediocrity is the hallmark, and yes, the very soul of geekdom. I wear my score proudly.

Re: Are you a geek ? (yeah right, like I need to ask)
*Cries* I don't recall the three missings, or rather, the spellings.
Khajit => Elsweyr? The name is almost Elsewhere, but not quite. RedGuards => Hammerfall, Illac Bay is merely one place between Hammerfall and the Breton province. Daggerfall is in the Breton province, Sentinel in Hammerfall. Breton => The province next to Hammerfell where you can go in Daggerfall. Sorry, I forgot the name. (Well, I could check for the name obviously, but...) Imperials => Cyrodil is the other name for the Imperial Province, is a bit harder to remember heh. I got a little over 17. Working in IT, having cable TV, and having a decent education has caused me to be classified as a geek. But at the same time proven the test to be geek-BS. Because everyone knows that redneck and geek can not co-exist in this universe http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

Re: Are you a geek ? (yeah right, like I need to ask)
I'm surprised this one didn't make the list as it must be one of the geekiest things of all time:
1. I speak the Klingon language. (well that is the language made up by some other geek and called Klingon) or perhaps: 2. I've read Hamlet writen in Klingon. (YES this book is available. I kid you not) |

Re: Are you a geek ? (yeah right, like I need to ask)
OK, I redid the test without exaggerating (basically replying 'yes' when the real answer was 'I may have at one time, I don't know') and the score was :
39.64497 % - Major Geek. Not surprising, since I've always been into puzzles and games, which eventually branched out into RPGs and computer games. I also read anything I can get my hands on. |
Re: Are you a geek ? (yeah right, like I need to ask)
Why is listening to TMBG a sign of geek-hood? I know TMBG from Australian science-fiction writer Greg Egan, but I have no idea what kind of a following they have in the U.S.
