OT: Playing a RPG Online: is anyone interested?
is anyone interested in playing a RPG Online?
specific RPG to be played to be settled in this thread. me, i say either D&D or Ars Magica because i have the latest PHB for D&D and because the 4th edition AM is available Online for free. |
Re: OT: Playing a RPG Online: is anyone interested?
Planescape! *Raises flag* Erh I was digressing.
I may very well be interested depending on the universe and whether I can resist this temptation or not. *Frowns* |
Re: OT: Playing a RPG Online: is anyone interested?
There are alot of web Boards like this, for people whom play RPGs on line. I tend to stay away from them, as most of them are totally absurd and the people obviously dont get out much.
If you are going to play Online, I would highly encourage you to pickup players from relatively trusted sources, like this board. |
Re: OT: Playing a RPG Online: is anyone interested?
Who would be the DM (dungeon master)?
|
Re: OT: Playing a RPG Online: is anyone interested?
well, someone who's willing and has experience. if the game picks up players, we could go on IRC and nominate. i'd be willing, but i've got practically no experience, so it probably shouldn't be me.
|
Re: OT: Playing a RPG Online: is anyone interested?
As Narf has said. I don't have any experience with mastering a game so it shouldn't be me.
Incidentally, would the game be played over IRC or another IM program (Narf alluded to this) or would it be over a board? (Puke mentioned this) The former would seem the most likely, but as having several players available Online at the same time might be quite dificult... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif |
Re: OT: Playing a RPG Online: is anyone interested?
IRC would be best. Doing it on a forum isn't IMO a very good setting for a game of D&D...
|
Re: OT: Playing a RPG Online: is anyone interested?
well, i would try for an IM, somebody mentioned one had an automatic dice-roller, AIM i think, but if everyone's time zone's were to different, we would have to use the board.
|
Re: OT: Playing a RPG Online: is anyone interested?
That would force everyone to get the AIM program... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/tongue.gif Couldn't we just trust the DM to report the rolls properly?
|
Re: OT: Playing a RPG Online: is anyone interested?
I should mention that I have a copy of the 3rd edition E Tools program that amongst other things allows for creating character sheets really easily, and I believe I can export to various file formats... (can also print, but that hardly helps http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif ). It would be best if the DM owned this program, as it can randomly generate monsters, NPCs, treasure, and even dungeons (all the random tables in the DM Guide for these things, basically, in an automated sense). And no, I am not volunteering to be the DM. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/tongue.gif

Re: OT: Playing a RPG Online: is anyone interested?
I vote for D&D, 3rd Edition.
don't have 3.5 books though [ December 23, 2003, 18:20: Message edited by: Argitoth ] |
Re: OT: Playing a RPG Online: is anyone interested?
you got a couple of points, Fyron.
if you post in this forum, please indicate wether your interested or just chatting so i can get an accurate count, please. |
Re: OT: Playing a RPG Online: is anyone interested?
Agreed Fyron, playing via IM would be much better if it can be done. I believe you have quite a good chance of finding enough players in the same time zone (or in a time zone close enough) so it should be possible to do so. (Once a DM is found that is. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif )
Edit: I am interested, but I cannot play via IM. (Different time zone, my connection isn't up 24 hours a day, and is as reliable as Geoschmo ISP. So it wouldn't quite work. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif ) [ December 23, 2003, 18:24: Message edited by: Alneyan ] |

You know... we could always go on #se4 and flesh the idea out more. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon6.gif

Re: OT: Playing a RPG Online: is anyone interested?
i guess my perfectionism was rearing it's head. i got a large dose of it that pops up in unexpected places. besides, you were argueing against it before.
oh, and you can edit. i'm of to see the IRC, the wonderful IRC of #SE4... |
Re: OT: Playing a RPG Online: is anyone interested?

Re: OT: Playing a RPG Online: is anyone interested?
on 3.5: I have to disagree with you fully on 3.5 fyron.
3.5 has a lot of new stuff, yes things are more organized, but their are also a lot of improvements. First of the ranger is actually a viable class now, whearas before, the ranger (and the paladin for that matter) where heavily front loaded, making it only worthwhile to take one or two levels of them. The ranger is also a lot more of a woodsmen now then he was before, before he was just an alternate fighter. The skills are a lot more fleshed out, there are some new feats (albiet most of the new feats are just taken from other sources) A lot of spells have been modified (like jump, which bugs the crap out of me) some for the better. |
Re: OT: Playing a RPG Online: is anyone interested?
well, i'll be interested. if you need to, i CAN DM(even tho i have no previous experience. nevertheless.) for my available times? Well, lets say any day from 6pm to 9pm (GMT -7), and more time on holidays -- probably.
As for the setting, i'm not familiar with 3.5 edition, but it cant be that difficult to learn now that i'm quite familiar with 3rd edition. As for the program, AIM has something special for rp's, i'll ask friends that i know are playing RP's there. [ December 23, 2003, 20:38: Message edited by: Taera ] |

Fyron: I don't think a complete rewrite of a class is a subtle change. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/tongue.gif
And there are a lot of "subtle changes" that add up to much more. |

Re: OT: Playing a RPG Online: is anyone interested?
Hey, if you guys really want to do this, get together sometime and come up with some times you want to game, I may be able to DM.
|
Re: OT: Playing a RPG Online: is anyone interested?
times seemed to be the biggest problem. i think the best hope would be for whoever DM's to just name a time and see who shows.
|
Re: OT: Playing a RPG Online: is anyone interested?
i am playing in one now.
Who ever is running this one. i can get you two talking so he can give some pointers http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif |
Re: OT: Playing a RPG Online: is anyone interested?
nobody is running this one. we've had volenteers. are people expecting me to pick one? cause i have no experience in DM-picking.
|
Re: OT: Playing a RPG Online: is anyone interested?
I don't care, I'll play or DM, just pick a time, and a DM. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif Most of my week is free.
|
Re: OT: Playing a RPG Online: is anyone interested?
fine. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif i'll use army rules. Adunn, you are hereby DM unless you mess up or nobody likes you. and, since your the DM, what matter's is when your available. so, pick a time. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif
um, if that's ok. [ January 12, 2004, 18:52: Message edited by: narf poit chez BOOM ] |
Re: OT: Playing a RPG Online: is anyone interested?
May I make a suggestion that you guys utilize web cams? so that the group can see your dice rolls? I dunno if thats possible but is it?
Anyway just a thought! |
Re: OT: Playing a RPG Online: is anyone interested?
Or just have the DM do all rolls... or use a program to do it. Web cams are expensive wastes of money for the crap qualtiy of the video feed they give you IMO.
|
Re: OT: Playing a RPG Online: is anyone interested?
yah, there are plenty of Online die-rolling programs and services and such.
|
Re: OT: Playing a RPG Online: is anyone interested?
Try sourceforge.net (open source software) you should find what you are after there.
|
Re: OT: Playing a RPG Online: is anyone interested?
Or you will just find a few hundred projects that would be what you are looking for, but are not because they never got off the ground.
