is anyone interested in playing a RPG Online?

specific RPG to be played to be settled in this thread. me, i say either D&D or Ars Magica because i have the latest PHB for D&D and because the 4th edition AM is available Online for free.

There are alot of web Boards like this, for people whom play RPGs on line. I tend to stay away from them, as most of them are totally absurd and the people obviously dont get out much.

If you are going to play Online, I would highly encourage you to pickup players from relatively trusted sources, like this board.

well, someone who's willing and has experience. if the game picks up players, we could go on IRC and nominate. i'd be willing, but i've got practically no experience, so it probably shouldn't be me.

As Narf has said. I don't have any experience with mastering a game so it shouldn't be me.

Incidentally, would the game be played over IRC or another IM program (Narf alluded to this) or would it be over a board? IRC would be best. Doing it on a forum isn't IMO a very good setting for a game of D&D...

well, i would try for an IM, somebody mentioned one had an automatic dice-roller, AIM i think, but if everyone's time zone's were to different, we would have to use the board.

I should mention that I have a copy of the 3rd edition E Tools program that amongst other things allows for creating character sheets really easily, and I believe I can export to various file formats... (can also print, but that hardly helps http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif ). It would be best if the DM owned this program, as it can randomly generate monsters, NPCs, treasure, and even dungeons (all the random tables in the DM Guide for these things, basically, in an automated sense). Agreed Fyron, playing via IM would be much better if it can be done. I believe you have quite a good chance of finding enough players in the same time zone (or in a time zone close enough) so it should be possible to do so. Edit: I am interested, but I cannot play via IM. (Different time zone, my connection isn't up 24 hours a day, and is as reliable as Geoschmo ISP. So it wouldn't quite work. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif )

on 3.5: I have to disagree with you fully on 3.5 fyron.

3.5 has a lot of new stuff, yes things are more organized, but their are also a lot of improvements. First of the ranger is actually a viable class now, whearas before, the ranger (and the paladin for that matter) where heavily front loaded, making it only worthwhile to take one or two levels of them. The ranger is also a lot more of a woodsmen now then he was before, before he was just an alternate fighter. The skills are a lot more fleshed out, there are some new feats (albiet most of the new feats are just taken from other sources)

A lot of spells have been modified (like jump, which bugs the crap out of me) some for the better.

well, i'll be interested. if you need to, i CAN DM(even tho i have no previous experience. nevertheless.) for my available times? Well, lets say any day from 6pm to 9pm (GMT -7), and more time on holidays -- probably.

As for the setting, i'm not familiar with 3.5 edition, but it cant be that difficult to learn now that i'm quite familiar with 3rd edition.

As for the program, AIM has something special for rp's, i'll ask friends that i know are playing RP's there.

Unless there is a lot more... in which case it would be better to get a real Online RPG program (there are many free open source ones out there http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif ), which would necessarily be much more feature-rich than AIM.

May I make a suggestion that you guys utilize web cams? so that the group can see your dice rolls? I dunno if thats possible but is it?

Or just have the DM do all rolls... or use a program to do it. Web cams are expensive wastes of money for the crap qualtiy of the video feed they give you IMO.

Or you will just find a few hundred projects that would be what you are looking for, but are not because they never got off the ground.
