Re: OT: Like Master of Magic?
Do you mean a new Master of Magic with a proper AI, modability and multiplayer support? I should stop daydreaming. Thanks for the link Sachmo, I will check it out!

Lets just hope Sid Meier has nothing to do with MOM2... don't want another CIV3 now, do we? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon9.gif

Re: OT: Like Master of Magic?
Looks interesting. I'll check it out. Sounds almost like a fantasy Version of Civilization.

Re: OT: Like Master of Magic?
Interesting. However, I'm still quite happy and engrossed with Dominions II.

Re: OT: Like Master of Magic?
the barbarians are tough. i just got wiped out by them. only got 1 city established. anyone know how to tone them down? i'm going to play again.
well, the barbarians just wiped out my beutiful city again. i guess maybe beginning strategy is build 4 pikemen, then build up city. i'm going to check the website for strategy tips. [ December 31, 2003, 02:17: Message edited by: narf poit chez BOOM ] |
Re: OT: Like Master of Magic?
I played a quickstart game, and took my opponents cities over in a few turns. I did play a longer game earlier today, and I really enjoyed some of the features. It's nice that the terrain changes in winter...nasty!

Re: OT: Like Master of Magic?
how do you beat the barbarians? i filled my city with armies and still lost.

Re: OT: Like Master of Magic?
Did you buff your troops with enchantments?
|
Re: OT: Like Master of Magic?
nope. in my current game, i'm surviving, though. i've got a city, a monastory and two heroes.
so, what do you suggest for enchantments? |
Re: OT: Like Master of Magic?
i appear to have won. all the city's are purple.
there's probably a little scout hiding in one of the corner's. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon8.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...s/rolleyes.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon6.gif |

Re: OT: Like Master of Magic?
AoW is rather stale and does not offer much of a gaming experience. It is far from MoM.

No, you're probably thinking of Age of Empires.

Re: OT: Like Master of Magic?
Ok. Taz downloaded game and played Tutorial.
Then Taz played normal game and LOST http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon9.gif I was able to build up city to about 12000 pop and had 3 pikemen, a knight, and an archer. Then in rapid secession was attacked by FOUR stacks of 5-6 barbarians each. Lost city to fourth stack. By rapid, I mean the 4 attacks within about 8-10 turns. SO ON TO MY QUESTION - how do you handle this situation or did I just get a game that was unwinable? (I had discovered 3 barbarian citys: One to S,one to NW, one to ENE) Also the barbarians seemed to know how to get to my city - They seem to make a beeline for it. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon8.gif Should I NOT explore until I am bigger, or would I be attacked anyway? |
Re: OT: Like Master of Magic?
build lots of pikemen. build a wall and castle. get a hero. build more pikemen, put them outside your city. get another hero. cast that spell that heals all your units each turn. put both enhencement spells on your hero. put it with the second stack of pikemen. watch everything in the stack that isn't the hero get decimated time and time again. build another stack. get another hero. when your hero's are maxed out, send them out to conquer. they can now take out entire army's. do so.
my brother's got three city's and he hasn't been attacked yet. lucky. |

The mod community for it is at least as good as SE:4, if not better (and I speak as one of the members and mod creators of both communities) And like I said, Shadow Magic has a robust random scenario generator, better than the one I would say that was with MoM, along with a strong built in campaign. To each his own, of course, and I can't really judge how you would like a game, but I suggest reading some of the top notch reviews it has gotten. I leave it to you to search for them, both because I don't believe in handing anything on a silver platter to anyone, and because any reviews I recommend might be suspect. Derek |
Re: OT: Like Master of Magic?
I actually like AoW more than AoWII. My major complain is the interface and ize of units. Small map viewing area and oversized figures makes the world looks small. Aow, in contrast, gives the impression of the grand, world spanning game.
