Playing without the CD?

Is there any way to play the game with the music without the CD?

Re: Playing without the CD?

If you have lots of free hard drive space, you can get a program capable of creating a virtual CD drive (such as Nero, Daemon Tools (free), Clone CD, Alcohol 120/52, etc.). Then, make a CD image file of the SE4 CD, and mount it in the virtual drive. You will need a CD image making program such as Nero, Alcohol, Clone CD, etc. What you can do is get the trial Version of one of these programs, use it to create a CD image file, and then use Daemon Tools to create the virtual CD drive, as Daemon Tools is completely free.

Plus, he probably realized why in the world would you want to spend all that energy to listen to SE4's music?

So it's a lot of work!

Sure it is. Just because you do not like the music does not mean others do not like it.

<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">That's not a true statement. In fact, I was one of the early champions of the Space Empires music. I did however, make a generalization based on most people's opinion about the music when I said it wasn't worth the effort.

Well, I don't have an opinion on the music, really. Consider me "Lawful Neutral" in that respect; doesn't matter weather or not I like the music, it's part of the game.

Why am I sad? Because I didn't want to have to use up 640 MB space / memory just for a few MB of sound tracks. I was hoping there was a way to maybe mp3 them, throw them into a directory with the game. No such luck, though.

I already have Deamon Tools running. I use it already for other purposes.

Sure. Create a new virtual CD with just the music tracks (you need a blank track 1, as mixed data/audio CDs have the data as "track 1). It will be a lot smaller than the whole game CD, but certainly not a few MBs.

Hm. Interesting idea. I'll try that.

Thank you.

Remember that SE4 will use any audio CD in the drive as a music source. You can control which tracks are used for normal game tracks, which are combat, etc. in Settings.txt.

<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">Indeed. My soundtrack for SEIV is a CD I made of music I "borrowed" from Freelancer. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon6.gif

Ever forget about what CD you have in your drive?

I just loaded my PBW turn, ran the Mod Loader, and instead of spacey music...

"Aqualung". http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/shock.gif

Yep, that's my Jethro Tull: Original Masters disc in the drive. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...s/rolleyes.gif
