No moons, please.

Is there a mod that can get rid of the creation of moons? It's annoying to have to click until I get my planet. Can I turn this off?

Re: No moons, please.

Perhaps you should colonize them - or someone might be able to mod the map creation files to only create planets ?

Re: No moons, please.

It's pretty straightforward to mod (I think it's just to edit SystemTypes.txt and change all the planets with location "same as #"), but I don't know that anyone's posted such a mod.

Re: No moons, please.

There is no mod that does so to my knowledge, but it is easy enough to mod them out of SE4. Open up the SystemTypes.txt file and remove all entries that are planets and have the placement type of "same as X." That is what makes them moons. Of course, I strongly urge that you do not modify your stock data and instead create a mod folder to modify.

<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">There is no mod that I'm aware of that does this.

You could create your own simple mod by deleting the moons from the SystemTypes.txt file. Moons are positioned using the "Same As X" entry for position. X represents the object number in the file where the moon will share the same position. If you make this to "any" in all cases where it appears, it should work ok.

I guess everyone was in a hurry to answer this question!

Re: No moons, please.

Yes i prefer the moons - i can see others who dont however, id like planets with 5-10 moons at times - the most ive had generated normally is 4 maximum.

It has an interesting effect on gameplay makes it more varied what about planet / asteroid system set up ie 1 planet, 1 moon and 1 asteroid belt ! would allow planet side resource gathering, ship yards and so forth on the moon and extra resource generation in a safe area with defense sats along with mining sats. Might be an idea for those creating game maps for PBW and scenrio options.

Sweet action.

Is there a race to answer dumb newbie questions? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif I've seen you guys compare times in my other dumb newbie threads.

Well it does not really help much to have 3-4 people posting the same exact info in a row. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif This did not quite happen here, but it does happen a lot.

There used to be...
During the heyday of newbie question rushes, answers were guaranteed in 30 minutes or its free.

To actually get the first answer in, you had to be a quick typer, and have a sharp eye to spot the new questions. Six minutes was common.

That's halarious.

Well, there's better support for this game than there ever was for MOO3.

I've not seen a mod do this, but you can do it easily by changing....oh, never mind. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif

Please don't compare SEIV to MOO3 - what is sold as MOO3 is not even a game, IMHO...

I would think that the freeorion project ie freeorion.org is much better and open that MOO3 - SEIV is much better however.

What does being a "newguy" matter? Noone is looked down upon or have their comments devaluated just because they are new or anything silly like that.

Bashing MOO3 is always fun though. There are just so many ways in which it fails, you can never run out of them! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon6.gif

Oh I think you should!

Paul1980au January 28th, 2004 06:19 AM

Re: No moons, please.

Well ok MOO3 is bad not as good as SEIV (which has useful contributions taht are listened to from the programmers to the fans playing it) modding the game makes it much more fun.

That said back to no more moons - i would like to see moons that dont have any minerals but can be used as limited types of colonies ie only military type facilities resupply depot, fleet training ship yards etc.

Fyron January 28th, 2004 06:20 AM

Re: No moons, please.

That can not be done easily in a random map generation... you would have to set them up with 0 value in the map editor.

Re: No moons, please.

Can't you set up a type of planet with almost no minerals? As in a very low random number? Or a significant percentage reduction?

<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">I do believe Fyron's answer would apply to this question as well. You would have to generate a map and then use the map editor to change the values to a very low number. But as always, I may be mistaken. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

you can change the settings.txt, but that would affect everything.

unless you could add planet value change to a planet type?
