Uploading!

Okay, this is almost certainly an age old question, but how the heck do you upload something nowadays?

<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">My understanding is that you either have to send it via e-mail to one of the Moderators, or upload it on the spaceempire.net site. I could be wrong, but that's what I think is going on.

No luck with us Moderators, we cannot upload either. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon9.gif

Uploading to Shrpnel hasn't worked for months. You might be able to post it to PBW if it's not too big. Under 10MB or so. Bigger then that and you'll need to split it up.

Re: Uploading!

If you can figure out a way to get it to me, I can put it up on imagemodserver.

Re: Uploading!

If you can email it, email it to admin at spaceempires dot net, and I can put it on SE.net. I will send it to SJ so he can put it on his server too. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

At worst, use WinRar to make a multipart RAR archive, with the parts being as big as you can email them, and email them one by one to me.

No FTP to server? Is that what's broke?

Re: Uploading!

hey Rollo, it looks like there's only a picture on your webpage.

what's broke is that the original upload was wedged onto the forum with a hammer. they had to wedge it on agains each time they updated, but now i don't think they know how anymore.

or something like that.

Re: Uploading!

Thanks for all the alternatives.
The file I would like to upload is just for evaluation by the B5 Mod group.

Rollo: you're idea is great, but I don't think I'll use it much. Just a file here and there.

SJ: You're one of the B5 members. Could I send it to you? That way you can make it available to the people on this site. I'll PM you with my mail adres, that way you can send me yours. Thank you!

Others: Thanks for the help with my little problem.

anyway, i never claimed this being a website. I suppose the name says it all.
It is just a tool for me to upload stuff and link to it. and it serves that purpose good enough for me.

<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">Yup, sorry. You're an honoured member too.

Rollo: Could you tell me a little bit more about your "website"? The concept is getting more and more interesting. Are there any costs? How do I get one of those pages? How much webspace do you have? Please elaborate.

Rollo February 3rd, 2004 05:09 PM

Re: Uploading!

The webspace is provided by my Internet Service Provider. There aren't any costs apart from what I already pay for my DSL connection. I get 20 MB of webspace. Not much, but enough to upload some data files, pictures, and other stuff I want to share http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif .

A quick google search 'free webspace' yielded good results. There are tons of services that will give you webspace. Make sure you get one that allows ftp upload and get a ftp client software.
Most of them have ads, but what the heck. You don't wanna make a website afterall. Just have a few folders on the net, to upload stuff and link to.

I am sure others will have better advice on this topic than me.

Re: Uploading!

Well it's enough for me. Maybe in the near future I'll get me one of those websites. Yeah, would come in handy now and then... yes...
