I listen to a variety of music including some of the following: Smashing Pumpkins, Depeche Mode, New Order, Placebo, Orbital, Prodigy, OutKast, Treble Charger, Chemical Bros, Bjork, The Cure, etc etc!

I like silly 80s retro, brit rock, alternative, electronic, one hit wonders, with a bit of bling bling hip hop because sometimes it's just fun. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/tongue.gif

Also anything that's interesting on a percussion level is usually fine by me!

Interesting group names - but what style of music?

'Progressive Metal' is the official label. Dio of course is none other than Ronnie James Dio (of Rainbow and post-Ozzy Black Sabbeth). The lyrics are quite heavy from these Groups (Dream Theater has a 13 min song all about experimentation with Stem cells and whether its right or wrong....) and the guitar work is amazing.

The following line sounds much more like an opinion then did your post: "I feel that other then Nickleback..."

in contrast

"Other than Nickleback, none of those bands are very good Reneade."

Listen to the EMOTION contained in the music, and you will find truly good music. The bands I mentioned have quite a bit of emotion (mostly) and therefore I enjoy the music. Perhaps others do as well?

Fyron February 10th, 2004 07:26 AM

Re: OT - Favorite Music?

Emotion is only a part of what makes music good. You can not have good music just because it is emotional. The music itself still has to be good. Few of those bands ever seem to have much emotion in their singing or playing anyways.

I think the most emotional piece of 'modern' music I've ever heard is 'Fade to Black' played by four Finns on cellos, who call themselves Apocalyptica. Very good stuff.

But if you want music that expresses emotion best, you should look into opera or at least showtunes.

As far as showtunes, I got hooked when I first heard the main title to Star Wars on the radio. Some dj played it (I'm talking about the original combined Version with the main title and the ending credits), and I've been hooked on John Williams ever since. There are other good composers, namely Jerry Goldsmith and every once in awhile James Horner, but I've managed to collect almost everything Williams has done on CD. Not too crazy about his 60's and early 70's stuff, which has a lot of jazzy stuff going on. I can't wait to hear what he's going to do for Star Wars 3, and maybe Indiana Jones 4 (if they ever get around to doing it).

Ween, it seems to me, is intentionally pissing me off. For some reason it feels very personal... so I don't care for that.

But some good, four-part harmony a capella gospel is, in fact, soothing music. It's a real shame that the only place a cappella seems to have in secular music is R&B. There's so much you can do with it that R&B never does.

[edit: Looks like I was wrong. It's R&B and collegic. Check these tunes.]

Re: OT - Favorite Music?

I favor almost any genre, provided it sounds good. It appears that the only exception is rap, which I have found disgusting in general.(I am younger then 20, suprisingly.)

My favorite music comes from a site that hosts the music of various authors, ranging from techno to classic pieces. They are remixes, usually altering the original form of the music used into new directions.

Overclocked Remix III

I have some particular Favorites, listed by name and under the sections they are in:

Under section C:
-The Incredible Singing Robot
-The Knights Come Marching Home
-The Trial in Concert

Under section D:
-DDR 4F73R M3(Is this rap? Or is it something else? I can't quite make out the words...)

Under section E:
-Rings of Saturn Valley
-Bus!
-Waztelands

Under section S:
-Saturday Night Speedway(I recommend using it in Grand Theft Auto III, it feels correct.)

-Secret of Spram(8-bells mix)
-Pearl Song
-Vega's Ballad

Under section M:
-Marble Dancefloor
-BrainsickMetal
-Metal Gear May Cry Remastered
-Needles
-Zero Sky(Again, use for GTA III.)

Under section T:
-Gift from Moscow
-Slavic Roots
-McVaffe Quasi Ultimix

Under section X:
-Live from the Yggdrasil
-Skyline

Under section Y:
-Mists of Yie-Ar

Under section Z:
-Pirates of Dragon Roost Isle
-Secret Seashells
-River of Time
