Does anyone know if there is a decent freeware picture editor available?

I want to have the capability to edit pictures, but I don't have any tools sufficient for the job, due to their age.

I need new tools, preferably freeware, since I can't afford the cost of buying software.

I think Paint Shop Pro has a demo. Not sure how long it Lasts, tho.

Otherwise, a search with keywords, "editor" "freeware" "photo" and/or "paint" might be fruitful.

Paint Shop Pro does have a demo. It will time-out after 30 days, so work fast.

I use ImageForge, which is a pretty good free paint program.

Any way to disable that ghastly marble image used as the background of many parts of the Image Forge windows?

I recommend Gimp for windows, you can find it at http://www.gimp.org there should be a link to "gimp for windows" when you scroll down a bit.

It has almost all the functions of expensive programs like photoshop, but it's free :-). There are a few issues, like it doesn't work very well with graphic pads like wacom etc, but other then that it's a great program.

<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">Under the Options menu, choose "Set Preferences". On the "Interface" tab, turn off the checkbox for "Use interface pattern".

602 suite has a pretty simple Photo Editor. It's free for non commercial use. go to:
http://www.software602.com/download/
download 602 PC Suite.

Electrum,

I check up on 602. They have an office suite.

I am interested but would like to know if 602tab can excel macros. I have some STARS! speedsheets I would like to use.

<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">It will open and manipulate Excel spreadsheets, though some of the parameters need to be readjusted. the Same with Open Office or Star Office.

<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">never heard of it... </font><hr /></blockquote><font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">In the battle to unseat Microsoft's Office suite, Sun Microsystems made their Star Office suite, which would run any MS file (and many others). Up through Version 5.2, they gave it away for private use, and I believe made it open source, which allowed others to build off of thier code. Open Office did just that & continued where Sun Left off. The latest Star Office is no longer free, but Open Office is.
I personally still us MS Office 97, But if I didn't, either Open Office or 602 would work fine.
