AAAAAAAAAGH!!!!
Get this I have a full shipset of 3D pictures (I made em http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif ) That I could texture and paint if I wanted to easily....yet I can't make the mini's!!!!
I mean this race is completely unique my very own idea and has been the epic lead in stories and boardwars for years!!! So I go to make a shipset yet all the friggin screenies I take of the 3d pics top down are at an ANGLE! and not just that but for some reason MS paint aint letting me make a good pic http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon9.gif Anyone have any idea for help? And buying any new software is not an option http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon9.gif |
Re: AAAAAAAAAGH!!!!
Can you not rotate the models to a top-down view?
|
Re: AAAAAAAAAGH!!!!
Send them this way and let me and photoshop work some magic.
To find me just get on #se4 on gamesurge.net or MSN: cwombat@hotmail.com AIM: cwombat169 Edit: Well even my photoshop magic cant fix the no top down view thing. But I can resize them so they look nice and if I cant you get a full refund http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif [ March 03, 2004, 05:04: Message edited by: Combat Wombat ] |
Re: AAAAAAAAAGH!!!!
Well I am using a program called nendo which doesn't seem to wanna let me make them a corrent angle.
I can get top down screenies yet with the problem of them being angled I don't know how to make them work. Perhaps with photoshop you could work some magic http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif Is that MSN messenger or e-mail? |

Can you export you models? Export them in say X or 3dmax format? (Which I think is 3dmax????) |
Re: AAAAAAAAAGH!!!!
Can't afford the software http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon9.gif I don't even know how I'd get the pics to one of you guys unless you downloaded nendo files and were able to convert them to your own then take a screenshot. Though as I said right now they aren't even textured since I don't have the software for that either.
and woot party BRING ON THE GIRLS!!! lol. |
Re: AAAAAAAAAGH!!!!
Depending on the complexity of the model, if you can export to .obj or .3ds then I suggest you try Anim8or. It's a freeware 3D modeling and rendering program. Just go to www.anim8or.com and grab a copy.
ooh la la, c'est la party! whoooopieeeee! Yahooooooo! yeah, Baby! Cheers! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif BREAKING NEWS: David's computer came through the opperation in excellent shape yesterday. Doctor Avatarius removed it's old 256meg of PC133 SDRam and replaced it with 512meg DDR 2700 Ram. David's computer was also treated for case of minor vocal aging. Doctor Avatarius reached down it's throat and yanked out the old SBLive Value and installed a brand spanking new SB Audigy Gamer. END BROADCAST |
Re: AAAAAAAAAGH!!!!

I tried opening one of the nendo files as an anim8tor but it didn't work the image wouldn't display http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon9.gif |

I was looking for ways for you to convert your files to .3ds format so we can help you and I found this program. http://www.myriadviewer.com/
Theres a 15 day trial, I havent used it but it looks like what you need for us to help you. |
Re: AAAAAAAAAGH!!!!
So that'll allow me to convert my Nendo files over to anim8tor?
Because I have a rather hand drawn looking picture of my Dreadnought and Frigate class ships because I used photoshop to fill in the general colors for which I was hoping to texture them with the nendo painter but I don't think that is possible. If I gave you a screen pic would you be able to texture it or would you need the 3d image for texturing and resizing work? And i still can't figure out the anim8tor controls so there is no possible way for me to copy my designs into anim8tor http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon9.gif here is a pic of my dreadnought: http://members.cox.net/cchiare/Dread.bmp [ March 04, 2004, 16:44: Message edited by: Starhawk ] |
Re: AAAAAAAAAGH!!!!
What type of color scheme do you want?
I will work on it some right now and I should be able to get you a rough idea of what I can do for you by this afternoon but a color scheme would be nice so I have some idea of where to start. |
Re: AAAAAAAAAGH!!!!
Well roughly the same color scheme I showed you the yellowish color was meant to be gold and the blueish color was meant to be shiney.
The hull's general color is grey though. |
Re: AAAAAAAAAGH!!!!
David was explaining to me that XP has a problem. Evidently XP will not use RAM over 512 megs. If this is accurate, then I am wasting 256 megs, and my system will never use more than 512 megs. This bites! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon8.gif

Re: AAAAAAAAAGH!!!!

I think the main reason that it has not been fixed yet is that not many apps make good use of extra memory anyway. and the new games are getting around this by stuffing the video card's memory instead of system RAM for alot of their graphics. CHeck out some of the new bleeding edge games, they have system requirements like 512meg AND a 128meg graphics card. There' is a reason for this. nuf said, cheers! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif |
Re: AAAAAAAAAGH!!!!
Ok you can find my first idea here.
http://www.spaceempires.net/files/cw/ Remember this draft is just to see if you like it. I am going to redo it from the original file again for the final draft. The first image is the size it will appear in the game and the second it the un-shrunk Version. Both had to be converted into .jpg because .bmp is to large for websites. I decided to go with these colors instead of your gold/metal scheme because I though it looked better and it makes the ship look like its covered with armor plateing. I can always use the gold/metal if thats what you decide. As for the blue part of what I assume to be engines I am still deciding how i want those to glow. So tell me what you think so far. Good?, Bad?, any changes you want made let me know. Edit: Reuploaded pictures after I resaved them as .jpg with some different settings for better quality results. CW that is a nice ship image. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

Re: AAAAAAAAAGH!!!!
Where did you hear this David?
|
Re: AAAAAAAAAGH!!!!
Hey combat that is one badass ship http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif I like how you textured it for the most part, but for one question.
The gold (yellowish color) from the original drawing I showed you is pretty important to the ship's "character" for the race I'm creating so if you could just toss the gold in and see how that turns out that would be great. Other then that I love it because it fits the mystery and high energy appearance of the race I'm making. I'll get you a top down image asap too so you can help me get that textured and all, I have a friend holding onto the images for me on his web space so this might take a bit of time to get all the screenies, rough fill in with paint and then uploading. The models are mine but I gaurantee if I can get this shipset done I'll have your name at the top of the list in the credits CW. Thanks again. EDIT: Oh and the one ring at the backend that you made go verticle was meant to be horizontal okay http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif It's part of the engine matrix. In the double ring part just in case you don't know which ring I meant. [ March 05, 2004, 03:57: Message edited by: Starhawk ] |
Re: AAAAAAAAAGH!!!!
Alright it didnt take me as long to get them together this time and I was able to up the quality some more. I have the originals and the new Version both on there so you can see them side by side. I hope this is more of what you are looking for.
http://www.spaceempires.net/files/cw/ Edit: Just noticed your edit. I'm not sure what you mean about the ring. I didn't move them. All I did was rotate the ship to prevent distortion when I changed the image size. Its the same but it seems like your looking at it from a different angle. The response was basically to have him manually set his swap file size to the same min/max value (the value determined by going to the 'Performance Tab' in the Windows Task Manager [ctrl+alt+del] and getting the value from the 'Commit Charge(K) Peak' number and doubling this.) The person told him that doing this should greatly reduce the amount of HD Lag caused by windows managing the swap file. He also mentionned that win XP does not 'appear to use any memory above 512meg' the techie that answered the question said this must be a bug, because he has never seen his own 2gig RAM system ever make use of the extra memory. The techie contacted MS and got a reply that it was a known issue but should not lessen the performance of windows. (Duh! what a stupid response form MS.) of course I don't know if the response from MS was from an actual programmer of if it came through the customer support, but it's a strange answer indeed. Personally I have my swap file at 768meg (I set it at this when I had 256 meg RAM I never noticed any lag due to intense swapfile activity.) FYI: when I had 256Meg RAM my 'Peak Commit' was at on average 380meg (which means I was obviously using my swap file) Now with my 512meg RAM I have noticed that it is pretty much locked at 480meg. So I guess that I might have to up my swapfile a bit, just in case. FYI:2.0 I have a friend with 1.5gig of ram and I checked his system and his 'peak' is also at about the 480meg mark. It seams that Win XP has been 'optimized for 512meg RAM' and all evidence seems to support this 'known bug' Go ahead, check yout 'peak commit' see what numbers you have. Re: AAAAAAAAAGH!!!!
Hey CW I like the gold on the primary hull but btw I also like the blue lines in the hull http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif So maybe have the gold highlight the forward section like in this pic:
http://members.cox.net/cchiare/Dread.bmp Okay and keep the blue highlights as in the first model you made those are great http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif . If it's not too much to ask maybe you could download nendo so I could transfer the files and make your job easier? It's free and easy to use okay? |
Re: AAAAAAAAAGH!!!!
Ok heres set #3
http://www.spaceempires.net/files/cw/ I think I have the colors the way you want them now. |
Re: AAAAAAAAAGH!!!!
Absolutely love it http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif thats perfect.
I'll get the other stuff on the way asap... |
Re: AAAAAAAAAGH!!!!
My peak commit charge is at 578k. My total is 331k. I only have 512 MBs of ram though... is this all XP, or just XP home that does this?

Re: AAAAAAAAAGH!!!!
Are you sure you aren't thinking of Windows 98? Its limited to 512, more or less. Nothing I've found says that Windows XP can handle any less than 4 Gb.
|
Re: AAAAAAAAAGH!!!!
AFAIK the article was talking about Win XP. but perhaps the problem has been fixed already in oune of their 'critical updates'
For me it's not an issue, all I have is 512meg. Nuf said, Cheers! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif |
Re: AAAAAAAAAGH!!!!
Hmmm a "teaser" of my race is in order I guess.
Well okay the race is called the Terrenesi (Terran-Es-Eye) they are a rather human looking race under their armor except for some rather obvious differences which I'll explain in the Bio description of their file. They have been a race I've worked on for many years now as a story and game race for board wars and a book I'm writing, so their history will likely be too large to fit into the descrption sadly http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon9.gif . Anyway they are a race of three known castes (Warrior, Ambassadorial, Civilian) and a mysterious and possibly non-existant (Noble) class which rules over them. Each caste although one species genetically has some physical differences between the others for example a civilian is not as strong or fast as a warrior and likewise a warrior is not as "smart" scientifically as a civilian. More to come http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif [ March 06, 2004, 11:46: Message edited by: Starhawk ] |

Oh and good news I think I finally got that danged texture work on the Nendo program to work....just don't ask me how I did it http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif
Anyway I think I'm gonna try making my own models textured and do that work and then if you don't mind Combat Wombat I'll send you the pics to resize for game okay. |
