map editor - double system
If I want to place one system atop of another and have warp points leading into both systems, how do I do?
Is it doable? Now when I create a new system ontop of another I can't edit it unless I delete the first system. Id like two systems ontop of eachother with the following wormhole directions: -0- | O | Making it look like this on the starmap: | -O- | |
Re: map editor - double system
You should be able to add two systems in separate locations, and then edit one of them to set its coordinates to be on top of the other system.

that will work

Re: map editor - double system
Works very well. I designed a map where all the nebula's were acutally 6-12 systems on top of each other, each with an identical names too. The WP's were all at identical coordinates. Only one WP led into the nebula and only one led out. Makes for a navigational maze. Worked quite well.

Bearclaw, I am having trouble visualizing what you are talking about here. Can you post this map so we can look at it? You can put it in the PBW file library if you like.

Re: map editor - double system
Well, it would just be 6 different nebulae systems. Two of them have a warp point laeding to other systems. Then, they have warp points leading to each other within the nebulae system. Those two would lead to other nebulae, and the other 4 nebulae systems would only have warp points leading to nebulae in this cluster.

Re: map editor - double system
Thank you Fyron for restating what Bearclaw said, but my question was whether we could see it.

Re: map editor - double system
That's a pretty slick idea, Bearclaw. Can ships automatically make their way through the nebula maze once you've found the path?

Re: map editor - double system
Ok, I made you a map: maps.zip
Well, 2 maps, one before I stacked the nebulae on top of each other, one afterwards. There are just 3 nebulae and a system out of the cluster on each side, but it illustrates the concept. |

Re: map editor - double system
So with two systems at the same location, only one of the is accessible via the quadrant map, right? So you have to use a different interface such as the planet list to bring up a view of the other quadrants? Eeg. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

This is the link to the example map I did.
http://seiv.pbw.cc/Download/filelib/946/maze.zip The issue of double systems is redundant now with 1.91. It will not allow overlapping systems. I'm not sure about other patchs though. Quote:
With 1.91, what I've done is simply placed the systems side-by-side. It's not as surprising to find out that you are not in an ordinary nebula, but it does have a realisic effect in that you can see just how large a nebula might be. [ March 05, 2004, 00:45: Message edited by: bearclaw ] |
Re: map editor - double system
1.91 seems to be accepting double systems now that I check it....
|
Re: map editor - double system
But can you enter them? When I tried, and Geo too, it gave an error code that froze up the whole game. The game worked fine until a ship tries to warp into any of the overlapping systems.
If this doesn't happen for you, perhaps we can figure out how to get this to work! |
Re: map editor - double system
EDIT: Now I see, it works if you have the ancient trait and knows all the systems, but if i'ts an unknown system the game will crash.
It also works if you get the starcharts of the double (or triple) systems from someone who has the ancient trait, before you enter the wormhole. [ March 05, 2004, 12:16: Message edited by: Ruatha ] |
