http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif wait a sec.. i'm playing as a god. don't topple me! can i de-bump this somehow? [ March 06, 2004, 18:25: Message edited by: oogs ] |
Re: NeGoC5 - Stories
Ruatha didn't mention what gods you will topple, so it could be the other false pretenders or the True Power (namely *my* Empire, and I do not have any bias, obviously). http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif Besides, we are not gods, not yet, so nobody can topple us for the moment being.
So join in the fun! Have you ever wanted to get even with imperialist Empires, truly ahead of you at the beginning of the game, but weaker than you in the end? Do you want to prove that age doesn't matter, as your race can wipe out an ancient race from existence? Would you like to transform a deity into a footnote in the universe book? Here is your opportunity to prove your skills at turning the tables and ultimately killing these Hegemonists who were toying with you. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/tongue.gif |
Re: NeGoC5 - Stories
Will finish map tomorrow, so if you want in, now is the time to join....
(I'll still work for another 10 hours though....) |
Re: NeGoC5 - Stories
Will work for a few hours more, then I'll have to fix the map file.
But I guess we can start when everyone has uploaded their empire file, as that'll take longer time than for me to finish the map! |
Re: NeGoC5 - Stories
Still need some empire files before we start.
|
Re: NeGoC5 - Stories
*bump*
still 4 slots left for those that want to topple (the false) gods.... join up (preferably on my side!). http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif |
Re: NeGoC5 - Stories
Nope, only 2 left now!
|
Re: NeGoC5 - Stories
I've applied for the second-to-Last slot.
|
Re: NeGoC5 - Stories
And you've got it.
So that makes two empire files missing. When they are uploaded the game begins (Unless I'm sleeping or working then). If someone applies for the Last slot before we start I'll accept that player aswell, otherwise that slot will be filled by the AI. |
Re: NeGoC5 - Stories
These are the current rules and settings for the game.
And if someone breaks the rules don't get mad, it's usually just the memory that fails and a peaceful and quite reminder of the rules usually is all the is required. Any opinions on these rules, voice them now before the game is started! GAME RULES: ============ ANCIENTS: 1. Ancients (4) cannot attack eachothers homesystem (or enter it) before turn 80 (Build, build , build). 2. No gifts or trades whatever. 3. Ancients cannot attack minor races before turn 120, only defend. Therefore, before turn 120 all ancients must offer and accept atleast non-agression treaty with all minors. Use your minors to kill off those who won't ally themselfs with you! 4. The ancients cannot have colonies outside their homesystem! The only exception is in other ancients homesystems (after turn 80) or the First ones system. This means that the ancients are limited to 5 systems, for ever. 5. The ancients aren't allowed to hand down tech to minors. Only research points and resources through treaties. MINORS 1. Minor races may attack whomever they want to. 2. AI minor races may enter treaties with all other races, how they wish. 3. Disregarding rule 6, human played minor races may only have military alliance or partnership with one ancient race at a time, but whatever treaty they wish with how many minor races as they wish. FIRST ONE 1. First race (1) may not attack anyone or leave their homesystem unless: 2. The first race is used for police actions in case of violation of the above rules. 3. First ones cannot have any treaties with anyone else. ALL 1. Retroseries are allowed. (If you want to pay for it use it) . 2. Absolutely no e-mail diplomacy prior to in-game contact. You may mail each other on all other issues but not concerning in-game events and strategies prior to in-game contact. 3. Total turtelling is forbidden! (You may shut down worm-holes and build system gravitational shields but there must always be atleast one way to enter a system. If it doesn't have any worm-holes it can't have a system gravitational shield. This goes for individual systems aswell as your entire empire. You may shutdown all wormholes into your empire, then you may build system gravitational shields in all systems but one!) ADMINISTRATION 1. Breaking the rules may result in a warning, or being kicked from the game. Depending on the nature and severity of the transgression. Or an attack by the first ones on the ancients or a minor race (even one who hasn't broken the rules if it's associated with a rule-breaking ancient). Decided by the host. 2. When an empire becomes without player the host might go in and check that empire from time to time until a replacement is found, he will then see to it that the empire builds defences. 3. Missing four consecutive turns without notifying the host will get you kicked. (Mail the host if you're going to be away a longer time) 4. We will try to run automated turns, so try to avoid asking for "Last player upload turns". So before asking for the game to be taken off automatic timed turns consider it thouroghly! ALPU is reserved for big events like marriage, childbirth and deaths in the family. The turn time might be increased in the future as turns become bigger and take more time to play. 5. The host has absolute power in hosting issues, questions might be put to a vote or decided upon by the host. WIN CONDITION The win will be collective and equal for all in the winning team; Winning is achieved by either one ancient forming partnership or military alliance with all remaining minor races, even if there is only one ancient left he must achieve this goal, atleast one minor race must be left at the game's end. So who can win? - One ancient race and it's minor races. - One minor race or a team of minor races who are left standing when all else are extinct (All other ancients and minors). This means that there might from 1-16 winners in this game (One ancient and all minors). (If all ancients are destroyed the winner will be decided by the remaining players and the gamehost, in that case the game ends when the players think so.) The First ones cannot win and is not counted as an ancient in above win conditions. ================================================== = SETTINGS (NOT RULES, THESE YOU DON'T NEED TO REMEMBER ================================================== = PLAYERS 1, First one: In the center of teh galaxy, more racial points and better system than the ancients, no worm holes connecting to rest of galaxy. 2-5: 4 Ancients, 3000 racial points, great starting system with sphereworld as starting planet, ruins with all tech, 2 ringworlds, plenty of planets. All adjusted to the players planet type and atmosphere. 6-20: 15 normal races, 0 racial points, normal start. MAP The galaxy is 255 systems with plenty of planets, normal amounts of wormholes. Middle-life sector from FQM, edited manually. Minimum 4 systems between players. Some long distance worm-holes to avoid closing-in of some empires. Some extra odd systems. Nothing game un-balancing. The FQM mod is not needed by the players. SETTINGS 1.NORMAL SE IV GOLD patch 4 v 1.91 no Mods. 2. No tech trading, No tech gifts. No gifts or trading at all. 3. Low tech start. 4. High tech cost. 5. No surrendering. 6. Only own score is shown. 7. 0 Starting race points for minors, 3000 for ancients and 5000 for first ones. 8. Intel is disabled, set your cunning to 50%. 9. Max 100 mines/sector. 10. Max units 20000 11. Max Ships 8000 12. 1 Starting planets. 13. 48 Hours timed fully automatic turns. (If all players upload before then the game turn will be executed) Eventually it might be moved to 72 hours if empires get large and turns takes more time. 14. Starting Resources 100000 15. Home planet Value: Good 16. Event Frequency: None 17. Auto-nag when 8 hours remind of turn time, auto-nag Last two player to upload. (I do not send mails manually telling you to "Hop to it"!! so don't complain to the host about being nagged!) OTHER 1. Always have a valid e-mail adress where the host can reach you. 2. Max/min of racial traits is allowed (if you want to do it you'll have to pay the prize by lowering something else) (RECOMMENDATION: Increase defence, offense and maintnance reduction) 3. Roleplaying is encouraged aswell as in-game stories. But not required! 4. The aim of this game is to have FUN. 5. When uploading your empire mark wich shipset you are using. No duplicate shipsets allowed. If you are using a stock shipset select "STOCK SHIPSET -XXXXXX" Where XXXXX is the shipset you are using, it must be the same as when you created your empire file. 6. It might not be me who hosts the game, if I have to go away for awhile I'll set up a guest host. 7. There might be more than one host at any given time, no host should participate in the game as something else as first one race. [ March 10, 2004, 22:21: Message edited by: Ruatha ] |

I am tempted, I am tempted... I just fear the moment when both NGC3 and NGC4 will arrive at the "more-than-2-hours-per-gameturn" stage and I would still be alive in both...

Well, then you can always go and visit the center of the galaxy.
There you'll find 5 quite hard opponents I'd guess..... |
Re: NeGoC5 - Stories
Just to play with the idea, I have designed a really nice race with 0 points. Not really good, but nice to play with... Guess I'll toss around the idea a few more hours, and if the Last slot isn't taken then, it will be taken then http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif .

Re: NeGoC5 - Stories
Stardate 2400.0
The universe was bristling with life. In the center the first ones peeked out upon the galaxy. They had been the first to attain intelligence in the known space. They had felt lonely.. After seeking the universe they had found four promising races that they had helped to achive intelligence, after that they had withdrawn into reclusion in th ecenter of the galaxy. The four younger races had in time also grown boored of th evast empty space, so they in their turn set out and helped even younger races up to intelligent levels. But something hade changed. Neither the first ones or the four now ancient races had been expansionistic in their nature, they had preferred to live in their original system while exploring the vast emptiness of space. But these new young races didn't settle for this, they wanted to expand and spread their way of life across the space. The first ones saw with sadness upon this, this would eventually lead to conflicts. After discussion with the ancient races it was agreed that the ancients would try to lead the younger races forward, guide them in the way of the univers. Perhaps there was a way to avoid conflicts? The four ancient races had always lived in peace with eachother, but the first ones could now start to sense dissentment and aVersion between them. The ideas of how the younger races should be lead was different between the ancient races, would this lead even them into conflict? The first ones was saddened and withdraw their ships back to their home system, not to be seen again. |

It was an empty slot as one player never uploaded an empire file and didn't respond to mails. So I kicked her so that the game could start and put in a AI Replacement instead, and kicked that one immediatly. So now there's an open slot with a grand empire, it's based on my usual 0 points empire so I hope it goes well for it (sentimental). |

Dear MR. Phoenix-D,
I'm aware of the rule: Do not kill pathetic little lifeforms before turn 120. But believe me, there are a lot of ways to cripple an empire without attacking it !! You will see soon............... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif |
Re: NeGoC5 - Stories
It seems that a good advice would be for Phoenix-D to find another ancient race and start building good relations with them, that way they can clear away any blockades and open closed worm holes and such.
Remember that ancients must offer and accept atleast non-agression treaties with minors. |
Re: NeGoC5 - Stories
Renaissance Circa 2400.1
The Renaissance Seeder was a magnificent sight to behold as it left Sigil's spaceyard, the blazing four yellow stars glimmering on its pale hull. Leaving the gravitational pull of the greyish world below, it headed towards the sister planet of Milvanis, true seat of power in the Faction. The twinkling colony ship slowly faded away from view, as thought it were a transient dream, mere shadows of long past times. Obviously, the Gathering knew it was no chimera, but rather the renewal of the Sign of One. Following the Last few months quarreling, the Faction eventually decided to be involved once more in the galaxy instead of keeping itself to its own world. And so the Renaissance, a Seeder, was sent to reclaim Milvanis where rested most of the secrets of the Signers. These were the thoughts that occupied Cirily as she observed the departing ship, along with the other Signers sitting at the Gathering. She glanced at her peers, each of them lost in thoughts, from the sour V'Sanys to Factol Darius, head of the Sign of One, the ever serene. Besides this, their faces were unreadable, and their musings too well concealed even for the trained eye. Cirily only focused her attention back on the present time when Darius spoke in her crystalline voice: "Done is done", she simply said, a saying so obvious that the dullest of Carnisas could have voiced it. "We cannot undo the past, and we should put aside our past squabbles, instead of contemplating these petty arguments." Cirily almost indulged in a smile as she heard the words, knowning all too well the conflicts amid the Signers. The recent concern regarding the prospective role of the Faction had only rekindled old strifes, and the schemers were as active as before, beckoned by power as butterflies are attracted by light. By what she could make out of the glances the other Signers exchanged, she gathered her doubts were shared. Likewise, the Factor must have been dubious about the reach of her words, as she added, her voice not quite as steady as before: "So be it, but we do have more pressing matters at hand. Our minds have sensed the presence of other alien life, and we managed to compute the approximative location of their worlds. It is our fear a few are able to roam between the stars, and knowledge is therefore truly needed regarding these creatures. As for now, we cannot infer who have thought of them, giving them their existence, and what their intents are." Cirily could not help being taken aback by the plain truth, as it was a daunting prospect for Signers. How could life thrive where their minds do not nourish these existences? "But most of you have not been told the whole dark of it," V'Sanys' voice came, firm and grim. "Our wandering thoughts glimpsed at these other, older races, attempting to preside over the fate of this galaxy. As in our lore, there are three such races, and a fourth one, fully withdrawn and merely acting as Keepers. Three peoples equal to us lurk close to Sigil, and we can but fathom at their intentions." Cirily had the pleisure of seeing plain surprise or astonishment written on the faces of most Signers, thrown out of balance in their certitudes. As for herself, she was the Ward of the Lore, and as such was well learnt with legends. Unlike many Signers did not reckon the power of stories in shaping this world, their world, she was conscious of the distinctive partners of many tales, which betrayed the part of truth hidden within. "Unfortunately, this threat is the plain truth, and the main reason why we must make haste," Factor Darius added once the hectic whisperings died. "We might need to be ready any and every threat, as the safety of our society may very well rest on our shoulders. If our worst fears were to come true, the Sign of One might need to call for the rebuilding of a proper military so as to protect our worlds against any invader and to..." Her voice trailed off at the thought of such an uncommon prospect for Signers, accustomed to peace and no hostility either between themselves or with other species. "The Gathering is dismissed and will resume regular schedules on the morrow, until Renaissance has succesfully claimed Milvanis," the Factol finished, giving them free leave to depart. As Cirily left the Hall of Speakers, she noted the wary looks and the disturbed chitchat as minds slowly grasped what was happening. A Renaissance the ship was named, but it looked more like a falling than anything else, she mused bitterly. A storm was gathering, but would the Sign of One weather it? Why, thanks, but my pen seems to have rusted a bit these days. At least I managed to write something only one or two days after the turn in question instead of one or two *months* later. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif
Incidentally, feel free to point out any typo or grammar mistake, as you are likely to come across these. I will not be involved in the squabble regarding the status of your deities. Re: NeGoC5 - Stories
Hi all.
Bad news. I've checked and must admit to having made a mistake when creating the map in NeGoC5. I was using the FQM mod but propably used the classic Mid-Life quadrant instead of the Standard Mid-life Quadrant. This means that the map generated with the standard game data files instead of the FQM data files. The game will not restart though as I won't edit another map. What does this mean: Fewer planets, currently 2223 planets in the map. Of which few are moons and more of those moons have none as atmosphere. Fewer asteroids, currently approximately 600+ The same amount of systems 255. An comparision to a standard FQM map with 236 systems reveals that it has 2408 planets of wich many more are moons with varied atmosphere. Uncountably more asteroids! Most regular star systems have an asteroid ring in it. So the sum is approximately the same amount of planets (propably 10% less) with the same variety of atmospheres, as there are fewer moons the none atmosphere of those doesn't seem to play any factor, but, alot less asteroids. If anyone wishes to quit the game due to false marketing I'll be sad but I'll understand. I hope you decide to continue anyway, as I still belive the map will make it possible for minors to compete with ancients way before turn 120, ofcourse depending upon the way ancients and minors play their games. Sorry all. (You where right Roanon) Ruatha |

Re: NeGoC5 - Stories
Centuries of peace and prosper.
Decades of cultural development and spiritual research. Years of poetry, songs and theatre. Months of.........disturbing transmissions !!! First the audio only transmissions. Music, radioplay and some news fragments. Later on the pictures. Species which held parties, dance festivals, whole stories and again news reports. Those news reports we're quite disturbing already. War and death, hunger and starvation and technological development. Xeeilaay looked again at the latest images. The grey hull of the allien ship slowly moved away. and than the view changed to the vessels interior, Dozens of people gathered in the vessels dock, celebrating their departure. Men and Women drinking, children singing and laughing, but also a lot of grey uniformed man in the distance, armed with some sort of weaponry. His mind thought of some other pictures, and the same moment the image changed and he looked in to a purple blue sky, some reddish clouds in the distance. A flash, fire and slowly but steady the growing of the fire cloud. It looked like the Vertix-Tree, those strange insect eating trees only found on the Reida-peninsula. Again the image changed and he was back above the allien vessel, still accelarating. The angle of the view changed and in the far distance you could see the destination of this pre-quantum vessel. Yes it's time to get prepared he tought, and in the distance you could see the ship dissapear into the warppoint......... |
Re: NeGoC5 - Stories
Jul 13, 2004 9:26:24 PM CEST: Greetings all.
We have a problem and I am in need of your opinions. This is the situation: Long ago an ancient wished to downgrade his trade treaty with a minor to a NA treaty, he offered this but the minor did not accept, so he cancelled the treaty with the intention of establishing a NA treaty, but the minor refused to accept a NA treaty despite several proposals. In the following turns the ancient and the minor stumbled into some fights where mostly the minor lost ships. Then the minor captured a stellar manipulation ship from the ancient and started haressing his ships and bases with some success. The rules stipulate that the Ancient cannot attack the minor before turn 120, only defend. This anceint also doesn't wish to gather large forces together with every ship he sends out as that would attract the other ancients large forces into battle, something he wishes to avoid at present. The result is that the minor can refuse to accept a NA treaty, and attack the ancient and take his ships at will, without fear of retribution. This is something I hadn't foreseen, I had expected the minors to be afraid of the ancient and always accepting the NA treaties, otherwise the ancient would have to use his minors to fight this offending minor. The rules clearly stipulate in favor of the minor, he can continue to fight the ancient and the ancient is not allowed to willfully attack the minors ships or planets. For me this does seem as an awkward situation but well within the rules. The ancient in my opinion would have to withdraw his ships from the area where this minor operates or guard them better (Self destruct devices?), and recruit his minors to do battle, opening wormholes for them etcetera. None of the parties involved are in any way hostile, both are very polite about the situation. I cannot see any other way than to let the situation continue as described above without violating the rules set down before the game started, something I am very reluctant to do. Your opinion can help me in this but the final decision will reside in me, so any results of this will have to be "blamed/discussed" with me, not any other player. Either way this will propably result in some player/s leaving the game. The game is on no auto turns anyway as I'll have to run the turn manually to reset a password. Speak up. Ruatha (ruatha) |
Re: NeGoC5 - Stories
I don't have anything to add that hasn't already come up in the e-mail discussion. I say the god should be siccing his allied minors on the offender; that's what we're here for.
