Hyper optics/Tachyon sensors
Hey, what is the differece (if any) between active and passive EM scanning?
Hyper enables passive and tachion active EM scanning. But in the description they are both supposed to reveal hidden ships in a SYSTEM. I always thought that for a passive-scanning type of scanner to work you have to have a cloaked ship pass over it... Was I wrong? If I was, what is the point of having 2 tech types that you can access even withouth recial traits do the same thing? |
Re: Hyper optics/Tachyon sensors
Nah JuriD, all the cloak detectors are the same in the standard game. You even forgot the third tech available to non-racial players -- gravitic sensors. All the same.
One sensor per system of level 1 penetrates the cloak provided by stealth armor. Higher levels are needed to beat the level 2 and 3 cloaking device. I was playing P&N recently, and I forgot that second part -- ships were attacking from out of nowhere. Had to get those sats with gravitic sensors up quickly. Even then, if I was up against a human, it might not have worked. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif |
Re: Hyper optics/Tachyon sensors
I don't know why but tachyon senors cost more than the other senors. Might as well save a little if you can.

Re: Hyper optics/Tachyon sensors
until now i was thinking each scan/cloaking method is unique.
Do you say that EACH sensor tech can detect EACH cloaking tech ?!? I was thinking only gravitiv scanning can detect gravitic cloaking, only EM can find EM, only temporal can find temporal and stuff. thats wrong ?! |

Re: Hyper optics/Tachyon sensors
I have a question on the difference between sensors & scanners. What does the long range scanners do that say Hyper Optic or Tachyon sensors cant.

Hyper Optic and Tachyon sensors are for detecting cloaked ships. |

Re: Hyper optics/Tachyon sensors
You're right, obviously - http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/shock.gif
I always looked at 'em from this 'skewed' perspective and it's my own mis-wired brain taking over (too many cheap pharmaceuticals- http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/shock.gif ). And (obviously again) I was mistaken... |
Re: Hyper optics/Tachyon sensors
Great news.
Now I don't need to put a sensor of each kind in my spy satellites. |
