Where can I make a star?

I have nearby systems with a red dwarf and a "gas giant core" in them and I'm wondering if I can use them to make stars and then make sphereworlds around them. Is this possible? I imagine I'd need to blow up the red dwarf first. What about the other one?

Thanks!

Re: Where can I make a star?

1. Make star in center
2. Callapse star into a black hole
3. Destroy the Black hole
4. Make new star
5. Make sphere or ring world

(design 4 2500 kt bases. 1 for cables, 1 for plating, one with a ring world generator, and one with a shpere world generator.)

Design and construct 6 or 12 constructions ships and deploy them around the target star.

Build the desired number of plating and cable bases needed to make either a sphere or ring world.

Construction ship 1 Build 2 cable bases
Construction ship 2 Build 2 cable bases
Construction ship 3 Build 2 plating bases
Construction ship 4 build 2 plating bases
Construction ship 5 Build 1 each cable and plating
Construction ship 6 Build ring world generator.

Double for sphere world.

Double check with someone who know before doing this.

i guess that will take LOTS of time...

Re: Where can I make a star?

You can make a star in any system that doesn't already have one, and you can make a ringworld or sphereworld around any star, including the remnants. If there is nebula or black hole in the system, you need to destroy that first.

If I remember right, it takes 2.9 years to build a ringworld generator with a spaceyard III, and 5.4 years to build a sphereworld generator (if this isn't right, it's close). You can build either around any available star.

Another question:

If you build a sphereworld around an existing star, does the game cut off energy to other planets in the system, or does it just ignore it?

Re: Where can I make a star?

If you ring or sphereworld the Last star, you won't be able to build any more planets in the system, and solar resource generation will drop.

However, existing planets won't die or become uninhabitable / useless.

<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">Correct me if I'm wrong, but neither the red dwarf nor the planet core should interfere with the creation of the new star or the RW/SW around it.
AFAIK steps 2, 3 and 4 are only for the cosmetic change of background and not necessary for your stellar manipulation.

Re: Where can I make a star?

Correct. Any time you have a sector star you can make a RW or sphere world out of it.

(sector star means one that occupies ONE sector and can be clicked on- all others are merely background pictures)

Hey! News flash!! Taz just had an Idea/Question!... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/shock.gif

Now I know that you CANNOT build a star in a system that has one. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon9.gif
And I know that after building a Ring or Sphereworld, the old star is replaced by the world. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif
SO - If I do build one, CAN I now build ANOTHER star since the system NOW has no star? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...s/confused.gif

(Hurry! - Taz now having dreams of creating a 100+ sphereworld system... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif )

Re: Where can I make a star?

From the FAQ:

4.9.3 Ring- and sphereworlds count as both a star, and not a star. They count as not-a-star for purposes of planet building, solar panels, and star destroyers. They count as a star for purposes of building new stars (i.e.: you can't). (Suicide Junkie)

Slick.

Re: Where can I make a star?

Hmmm, 25500 worlds at average of 10 sec per world.
255000 sec = approx 2.95 days.

Re: Where can I make a star?

You could make that with custom system files. Change the Sphereworld to be a regular planet, rather than a Sphwereworld. Add a few hundred to a system type in SystemTypes.txt, edit a quadrant in QuadrantTypes.txt to have that system, and make a map! Just make sure to generate it in-game, not the map editor. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

Coming back into topic http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/tongue.gif

I once *when i was preety much a newbie at SE* **not that i am now an expert of smtgh http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...s/rolleyes.gif ** wanted to build a sphereworld around a star. I checked and found with amazement http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif what i couldn't fit those damn cables ony ship... So istead of building lots of SSYs and sending them around a star and buidling Starbases with components for the spehereworld here's what i did. I build a star destroyer, a star creator and a planet creator, i destroyed the respective system, build a star right on top of some asteriods, created from the asteroids a planet and taa-daa... A planet round a star on which i built a SY and significantly shortnend the build time of all those bases *and i skipped the building of all those SSYs* http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon6.gif

And i felt very proud of my achivement http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif

<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">Many problems with this idea. First, you still need the bases. No matter if you build them with base space yard or a facility space yard, you have to build them in a starbase hull. Unless you are talking about a mod. And it takes about a dozen space yards to make a ringworld, and about two dozen to make a sphereworld. And it can only build one at at time. Your facility is going to take longer to build a dozen starbases one at at time then 12 pase space yards each building one starbase would take. Unless, again, you are using some mod.

Also, I don't think this idea would work to begin with. Because I am fairly certain the game only allows you to create a star in the center sector. I could be wrong about this Last point though. It's been a while since I have tried it.

Yeah i would have to agree now that it's much more efficent in doing it the old fashion way...
But i am still very proud of that early achivement..

As far as the building of the star not in the center of star if i remember correctly that wasn't a problem

Re: Where can I make a star?

You don't have to build a star in the center of the system. I found this our when I was trying to figure out how to make stars (I've only had the game for a couple of weeks). I would pop into a system, make a star thinking I needed to be WAY away from the middle because, after all, a STAR is going off. That's a heck of a boom! Well, I got nothing and couldn't figure out why. Finally, I realized I was creating them in the same sector as my warp point and they were being hidden under the warp point graphic so I didn't see them right away.

Anyway, I figured out what I needed to know about where I could build stars and now have four sphereworlds in my empire. Frankly, I see little use for these things because they take so much technology that it seems like the game will be all but won by the time you have one. But, perhaps I'm wrong.

prestige, mostly. Someone who's more awake and could actually find it could probably post a funny link to a wiki page about that.

Re: Where can I make a star?

Yeah, sphere worlds are nice to have but it takes a really long time to fill them up. I have never played a game enough turns to research the technology, build the sphere worlds, and completely fill them as well. By the time I stop playing a game, my sphere worlds are less than half full, if I constructed any sphere worlds at all.

Imperial Ego

Space Empires IV is a game about conquering the galaxy, so it tends to appeal to the kind of people who... well... want to conquer the galaxy. This means the SEIV community has more than it's fair share of power-mad, totalitarian egomaniacs, desperate to demonstrate their ultimate superiority and bend all creation to their will.

Conquering the galaxy and referring to oneself in the third person is one way to do this, but once you've done that a few times you start to look for something new. This has led to the existence of certain "status symbols"- mighty feats of prowess and power to be achieved because conquering the entire galaxy just isn't impressive enough . These things will not help you to conquer the galaxy - they are so ridiculously expensive or impossible that you can only contemplate them after you have achieved complete mastery of all you survey:

* The Triple-Molly.
* Building a battlemoon loaded so full with self- repairing armor that it can survive the centre of a black hole indefinitely.
* Conquering the entire quadrant except for one planet, then swapping sides with the AI and fighting your way back up - one planet against the entire galaxy - to win again.
* Building even one new cultural centre in a Proportions game.
* Filling a sphereworld (using an ?advanced storage race) with cultural centres.
* Re-sculpting the galaxy's warp point connections so that a ship can get from any given planet to any other in 10 movement points.
* Re-sculpting the galaxy's warp point connections to spell out your name.

Given enough patience, most players can carry out the above against the computer. For a real challenge, try to achieve one of them on PBW.

Even by blowing up a star...That is one thing that would be cool to do, transport asteroids into an empty system and pile them in a sector and build a planet. Maybe SEV...

This does allow you to create an infinite number of planets though... build star, build RW, blow up, get asteroids. Build new star, new RW, get 2nd asteroid belt, and so on.
