OT: SEIV Movie??

I wonder if we could interst the Sci-Fi channel in one or more of our current Space Empires IV stories?

I mean we have a wealth of great stories currently posted on this forum that would make excellent mini-series or even a weekly original series.

Think about it for a minute or two and consider the possiblities. With so many great stories and on going stories about SEIV, written by people who love the game and enjoy writing, the supply of scripts would be endless.

Wouldn't you love to see a series or mini series based off of someone's story? I know that I would and I would even love it more if my Story were selected as one. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif

Just to see what would happen we should send a few emails to the sci-fi channel and see if we could get someone interested in the concept or at least the game.

That would be SO COOL!!! I don't get to read the stories vary often, I wish that it would go back to the way it was, there was a web site set up ONLY for SEIV stories http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/shock.gif . To bad that site closed down http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon9.gif .

Fyron is in the process of getting all the stories hosted on his www.spaceempires.net site. With any luck most of them will be hosted there by summer.

REALY??!! I MUST check that out. I am a very avid book reader and I think that many of these stories would make good books http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif .

Re: OT: SEIV Movie??

Yes I know. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif I wish I had the interst and motivation to finish my Story. I have started a re-write of it, and so far so good, but I just keep running out of steam.

You would figure that if writing was so enjoyable more people, including I, would do it more often.

My hang up is my lack of proper skill in spelling and punctuation. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon9.gif

I have plenty of imagination and the more you write the better you become. So I guess I should just buy a bottle of Jack, get slightly buzzed and start writing.

The story is really a good one, I just have to get back into it and finish book one.

Oh ya, a few of the current stories are listed in the second STICKY at the top of the SEIV forum page under FAN FICTION.

Well, in the US, our friend Jack Daniels is legal. Absinthe, however, is not.

Not that it really stops the people determined to get it...

I don't have the time to read these stories. Maybe I should one of these days. I like the concept, Atroticites, but since the Sci-Fi channel is run by suits and not geeks, whatever may come of this may not be to our expectations. Not that I get the chance to watch the channel that often, but it seems to me they watch the bottom line more than reading the scripts. Good luck.

What I think is that what is needed is a movie-generater. Pre-created objects and figures, voice generation, pre-scripted actions. You want your character to kick, you click on a target, type in some numbers and your character kicks. As for voice generation, we had a VG on our 8MHz amiga that wasn't bad, so we should be able to do pretty realistic on a 1.47GHz, shouldn't we?

I'd even settle for them FINISHING WHAT THEY START!

Come on, name one non-Star Trek series that went to a successfull, non-network-forced conclusion.

This rant brought to you by me getting interested in a cartoon, only to find out that it only ran for one season.

No you will fail to do so.
There's too little character development, and the ones I've started to read resulted in immediate boredom while I do like to read, and like SciFi.

A live action movie based on any SE IV stories would be very difficult to swing, I think. But the Othaglot & Cane story might make a decent animated feature. And it could be done by a fairly small studio these days with computer assisted animation.

Kaboom! But it was silent because it was in space. Very very sad. Shortly thereafter Sheridan dies. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon9.gif

It was a very touching and depressing ending to a great series. At least we know that Earth survived the Pleague non-tech virus that the Drock (sp) unleased.

Crusader could have been a great show. I do so hate TNT for what they did.

The final episode, "Sleeping in Light," was directed by J. Michael Straczynski and made an epilogue to the series. Set 20 years later, after all the sound and fury this quiet, elegiac tale is the apotheosis of the love story that proved the balance to the tragedy of the preceding darkness. A personal story resolved against a background of the epic, at once transcendent, deeply human, and profoundly optimistic, "Sleeping in Light" is as moving as any hour in the history of television drama and a thoroughly satisfying conclusion to one of the greatest series ever made. --Gary S. If I remember, TNT wanted to sex-up and dumb-down Crusade to appeal to a wider audience. History shows this typically fails. Lemme point to another sci fi series that did that - Enterprise.

And they are just barely making the pick up list for UPN who's twitchy as hell when it comes to low-Ratings.

The thing is, TV series are no longer produced to the quality they once were.

Networks would rather commit to a mini series than a 13-episode trial run at the same time they refuse to hire writers guild people in favor of reality TV shows that are produced on limited, half-season runs of 12-15 episodes.

I despise hollywood for that and thier long line of made-for-oscar films that spew of boredom.

<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">Hear!, Hear! Amen to that. But I'd settle for a longer run time than the 35 or so minutes that most hour shows seem to run. It's really telling on Enterprise, when they can't tell more of story due to all of that d$%m advertising they have to have. I wish they could go back to the 51 minute running time of the orignal show. At least back then, they weren't trying to run two storylines at the same time like they've been doing since TNG came out. That's the one thing I really didn't like about TNG. Give me one story at a time!!

Exactly, keep things with only one major plot. It's okay to have subplots, but make sure those plots tie directly into the main plot, and support it.

Trip having sexual encounters in the shower doesn't support the Xindi-Arc on Enterprise - at all.

Plus, what ever happened to ensemble shows?

Actually Narf, My most memorable western wasn't an episode, but a joke involving the lone ranger in the middle of the valley being chased by native americans from the north. He then noticed to the south there was another group rushing to meet him. So he turned west and yet another group was quickly advancing. Turning east, in hopes to escape proved to be futile with a fourth group closing the circle.

The Lone Ranger then turns to his faithful native american sidekick, Tanto (spelling?) and he says "I don't know who we are gonna get out of this one!"

Tanto replies, matter of factly, by saying "What do you mean by 'We'?"
