Andromeda Mod?
Here is a rich an deep area that we have not even began to explore yet.
I have been watching this show on DVD lately and I have to say that I am semi impressed with it. It seems to fit better with SEIV than most other Sci-Fi shows and lends a great story to boot. I especially like some of the weapons they use, Point Singularity Protectiles. (Mini Black Holes) Gause Cannons Point Defense Cannons Missiles (Many types) Nova Bombs (Star killers) Fighters Drones At least 20 seperate differant races. It might be an interesting challenge to consider. Hell I might even consider it. Right now I just do not know enough about the show to try. But perhaps there are those here that do. |
Re: Andromeda Mod?
to be honest, i think Andromeda is the WORST show ever created...

That's Hercules in space, right?

Re: Andromeda Mod?
Okay don't be posting just to knock the show....that's just immature not to mention that should have no baring on the shipsets themselves which are quite cool http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/tongue.gif .
I agree with you atrocities Andromeda does certainly have a rich background of races and shipsets you could use including the Old Commonwealth High Guard. The New Commonwealth High Guard and bad guy Collectors have a nice new fleet with lots of new ship designs and some old commonwealth style starships......not to mention Genknights, Templars, Resters, Neitcheans, Maggog and Pirates that all have their own shipsets to use http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif ......mmm I drool just thinking about the possibilities. Edit: OOOoh and the Deriva's and the Castallians and the Ne'Hollanders and various Neitchean prides which seem to have their own kinds of ship variants......oooh and the FTA http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif [ May 17, 2004, 00:22: Message edited by: Starhawk ] |

Re: Andromeda Mod?
Hmm...by the pacing of the show, it should be done within a reasonable time of SEV being released.

Re: Andromeda Mod?
Yeah Andromeda was only contracted for 5 seasons and unless they come up with a totally new story arc they will not come back for a sixth.
So it'll end some time next year I would kind of be hoping for some andromeda universe ships before that http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif |
Re: Andromeda Mod?
I've never even seen a complete episode yet. the show does seem interesting, but I don't know much about their storyline and the other info to make an informed opinion. But if a mod is made, I'll play it.

Re: Andromeda Mod?
There are going to be a lot of changes in the way SE V uses images when compared to SE IV. Making ship sets for SE V will be decidely more difficult and as a result there will be few of them. I have no intentions of making any sets for SE V. To much work, to much money, and to much time will be required to do so. When something I do for fun becomes like a job, I drop it cold.

Re: Andromeda Mod?
Umm... most shipsets for SE4 will be convertible to SE5 easily. All you have to do is convert your models to .x, maybe smooth them out a bit, you are done. Making sets for SE5 will be identical to making sets for SE4, except you won't be able to make sets that are just screen captures from other games and such... though most sets are made from actual models for SE4 anyways.

Re: Andromeda Mod?
Fyron: It seems to me that a lot of the shipsets that are out there were done in Doga and Moray, and converting files from those to programs (at least on the moray side for sure) to anything else is going to be a reall pain. Doga should be easier then moray, as it was designed to be part based and import parts made in other programs. Secondly: Doga and Moray area both very simple programs compared to a lot of the more powerfull 3D modellers, also a lot cheaper. I think it will be much as the transition from SEIII to SEIV was, with the number of shipsets greatly decreasing, but the overal quality increasing.
Anyways: Back to andromeda. I enjoyed the early episodes of Andromeda, introduced a lot of cool tech and ideas. Creating a mod could be a lot of fun, I can already see a lot of the techs from andromeda already in SEIV. Unfortunately I stopped watching it during the second season as I thought the show was going downhill. Anyone want to fill me in on whats been happening and if there have been any cool new ships/technologies introduced? |
Re: Andromeda Mod?
DOGA cannot be used for real-time 3d rendered games unfortunately. It produces models that are too "slow", that is you spend a lot of polygons for little detail. Bryce has the same problem. Moray would work IF you could get it to .x format..which IIRC you can't.

Re: Andromeda Mod?
I thought that a moray to .x converter (or was it .3ds?) had been made recently?
|
Re: Andromeda Mod?
Fyron: You may be right. I haven't had time to test it but I have found an extension that will suposedly let me export to .X format. If it works, thanks for the heads up, if it doesn't work, you suck!

Re: Andromeda Mod?
To much trouble to be worth the effort.

Re: Andromeda Mod?
As a vampire, I suck anyways, so I do not see what is to lose.
