Cross Roads.
Well I have been thinking about this alot durning the crap I have been going though getting a computer up and running at home.
SEIV , SEV... Computers in general. I think I am sick of it. Not sick like I am walking away. As I enjoy everyone here and I do look forward to meeting new people here. But I have been thinking. And well I am getting ummm.... used to playing seiv. It is the greatest game I have ever played. I have invested over 1500 hours at least playing this game. Which is a huge chunk of time in ones life to invest in a game. Anyways... I was thinking that with SEV coming up soon, good weather and some up coming commitments. I need to scale back on the land of SEIV playing. I love the game. And I love what we have set up for the SEV universe. We have RP communities such as Legacies, PBC, Ladder. We have fantastic web sites dedicated to promoting seiv mods, shipsets, graphics and stories. An old lurking community who are waiting for SEV and a younger generation of players just getting their teeth wet on this great game and fantastic community. I have seen people come and go here. And then the ones who just carry on and have become my friends. Well what does this all mean? Easy. Thank you very much for letting me get to know people all around the world. Dicuss situations that are touching and disturbing and be given the chance to say what I think. Thank you. Will I be leaving. No I will finish the sweet mod. The TGM mod. Well that sits on the shelf most likely never to be finished. Web site. Well that will be updated in July again when i have some free time. Games. I am cutting back. And will only join games on personal invite where it will involve rp or interesting setups. Running games. I will always run games. As they take little time and effort. But I think that I will cut it back to starting 1 game every 2 months. Posting. I have slowed down lately... So maybe 4000 Posts by sept. Thats all Simon. |
Re: Cross Roads.
Yeah, a guy's gotta do what a guy's...well, you know the saying.
Sometimes I look back at the time I spent on the best game I ever played and think I should be doing something else. Another kind of entertainment or something one might consider a bit more productive. I haven't gotten where you are but one day I may be there. For now, it's a free form of entertainment. And a great one. I'll second your remark on "meeting the world". And 99% of the time, people are nice to one another even in the differing opinions of the ever-appearing OT Posts. It's my favorite forum and my favorite game. So hang around. Pop in on some threads. And make room for a game from time-to-time. And if you have anything interesting for "the guys" here, let us know, too. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon9.gif |
Re: Cross Roads.
I hope you enjoy your self-given rest from computers, and also hope that you'll come back, feeling better than never before.
Happy trails, my friend. Edit: Forgot to say this; We'll all miss your crazy antics http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif [ May 17, 2004, 02:05: Message edited by: TerranC ] |
Re: Cross Roads.
I guess I should not be surprised, since you have cut down on internet time tremendously for the Last year or so... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

Re: Cross Roads.
Well I can understand that... three straight years, it should be time for a bit of a break, eh? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif
Good luck with all your Real World stuff. And enjoy it! as you said, the weather is getting nicer, and it is (for those of us in the northern hemisphere) summertime. Trade the glow created by electrons bombarding a phosphor coating for the glow created by a ball of exploding hydrogen. And I would say "Welcome to semi-lurker-dom!", but 200 Posts in about three and a half months is a bit ambitious for that, methinks... *points to post count slowly approaching 600* http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/tongue.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif |

You will be missed Tesco. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon9.gif

Re: Cross Roads.

See you later, Tesco. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif Cheese? |
Re: Cross Roads.
Hey I said... SEIV Playing is the scale back ... Not leaving.
Yea Fyron... I have been away from the internet alot the Last year. The reason for that would be work and home renovations and doing stuff... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif Rereading that it looks like I stated I am sick of everything... Well I am not, just announcing that I am not going invest my time in game playing at the level it has been at. So I will cut back to regular folks who play PBW. Like 4 games. PS. Good weather outside is also a factor http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif |
Re: Cross Roads.
Also all of this will come together in the next 6 weeks... There are reasons for announcing that time will be freed up for commitment to other important things in this great community.

That said, there's no computer substitute for sex & sunshine - at least not yet (pr0n doesn't count=-) - so you go off and enjoy it while you still can. When you're too old for sex and the sun has been burned up in a Matrix-esque techno-holocaust, we'll all be here waiting to welcome you back http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif |
Re: Cross Roads.
i was wondering how old are you Tesco ?

Re: Cross Roads.
I had to cut back my games at PBW as well. Really when something I do for fun becomes like a job, its time to move on.

Re: Cross Roads.
"Many people just think that computer games are "bad" because it's "bad" to sit in front of a screen all the time. It probably is, but better an (interactive) computer screen than a (one-way) TV screen any day. Geek kids will grow up smarter and better adjusted than MTV kids anyday."
Probably a whole conversation in this alone. I mean the redeeming qualities of TV versus computer games. Certainly, sitting in from of the Learning Channel would be fine as a TV example. Then, other shows on TV like, perhaps, ER, where a person could learn in passing a bit of medical info. Then, we move to another type of show, sci-fi, where, like SF books, the imagination is perked and young people wonder about what they have seen and if it can be done as they, perhaps, pursue a scientic career. Last on the list, IMO, is watching sports. Not sure there are any redeeming qualities to be found there. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif Then there are games. Particularly strategy games. Possibly some good to be found there as it teaches planning, analysis, exercises the memory, puzzle-solving, and, perhaps, in certain games (like the Sim City series), there may even be some practical learning available. But, once again, not sure the games my 12-year-old plays (where it's mostly about violence, where Versions allow you to play the "bad guy", sell drugs to get money, run from the police, etc.) are wonderful "tools" to grow up with. He spends way too much time, IMO, glued to his PC/PS/Xbox playing games. I feel his social skills are being hurt. And he looks about as pale as a guy can be 'cause the sun only touches his skin at school (LOL). I DID hear a report that said kids who play on the PC x-number of hours a day were originally thought to be harmed but studies showed they seemed to do better in school than those who had a "regular" life. So...what's a guy to do? In the case of SE, I think a lot of guys (all ages) tend to learn some extra computer graphics skills so that they can make ship sets (modeling) and host their own website (HTML, Frontpage, etc.) And that's a good thing (well, until someone in India takes your job for 1 8th the salary...LOL).
