What\'s good these days?

Hi All,

Been away from SE4 for awhile but considering to start playing again. What's the latest and greatest with regards to patches and mods these days? Has anyone managed to mod an AI that puts up a decent fight?

Re: What\'s good these days?

There is the TDM Mod which 'tweaks' the AI for a better opponent. IMO it is a must-have.

Some mods have the TDM optomized AI's with it.
Devnull Mod for sure. Perhaps P&N Mod and Proportions as well.

The above mods (and many more) have changed the gameplay greatly.

There is also a Mod that claims to be tweaked to get the most out of an AI. (I remember that it has built-in advantages for the AI. Chooseable at game setup.)

Hope this helps and welcome back! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

SJmod (Gritty Economics) is new too.
I'm playing some test games at the moment...

Leaky shields/armor
resources redefined
maintenance on some facilities
Troops are really really nice (and important).
ship costs go up as the cube of the size, but maintenance is flat-rate independent of size.

Just no AIs, but multiplayer is fun.

Hey hey welcome back. A lot has happened in over the years. More than 250 ship sets, pbw, mods and more mods.

Speaking of mods, SJ can you post more info on this mod your talking about?

I have been told that Adamant Mod is a good mod.

<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">Thanks! Yeah, I remember PBW, it was in it's cradle when I left. I haven't really decided if I'm really back yet though, just peeking through the door to see what's what. Will probably pick up a mod or two and give them a whirl and see if I get drawn in again or not. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif

If you go with Adamant Mod, don't hold your breath on the performance of the AI. It is not spectacular. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

I am in the process of writing a *features list* for the mod.

<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">Ok, is there a good mod that focuses on improving the AI but changes little to nothing else? I did some modding myself back in the day to improve the AI for my own use but I'd like to think someone has come up with something better by now! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

Re: What\'s good these days?

You want the TDM Modpack, which does nothing but add a few new formations and heavily improve the AI. No new techs or anything.

Ok, I'll give it a go. Thanks!

Invasion! is a good new mod, not very good AI right now but there are some spaces left in the Invasion! 2nd Wave PBW game.

Invasion! full:

Invasion! 0.31 Patch:

Also I am fairly new to the community so, HI!

Re: What\'s good these days?

AI Campaign has a great AI and it is very hard to beat. The Last se4 update v1.91 has slowed the human players expansion and strengthened the AI now to the point it is hard to beat even at low ai bonus. JLS and the gang are working on the balancing the new v1.91 se4 update to the AIC so the AI is not as powerful. AIC v5.0 should be ready in a few days.

Re: What\'s good these days?

Second to that. AIC is IMHO the best mod for sole play. It is though different from default SE and may not be to your liking because of slow build-up but still, give it a chance !

Re: What\'s good these days?

AIC mod - is it compatable w/say the TDM mod? that is will they screw each other up if I try to install both?

I've also been gone a long long time and keep trying to talk myself back into playing again... been reading a very nice AAR of SEIV over at FOF forums and it's got the old juices flowing again.

also, is the AIC Mod for the old SEIV or is it for SEIV Gold... I'm an old fart who is still running SEIV non-gold...

Fyron June 9th, 2004 08:31 PM

Re: What\'s good these days?

As long as you install every mod into it's own subfolder, you can't use more than one at a time. They will not screw each other up. Make sure to NEVER install a mod into the stock data files. The only exceptions are mods such as the Image Mod, which just adds new graphics and does not alter any stock ones (other than the minis file, which it adds to at the end).

AIC would not be possible in pre-Gold SE4. It relies upon a lot of features that were added in Gold.

You can find several pre-Gold mods over at SE.net in the downloads section.
