OT: Fire in the office

At 02:13 am of this day of 16/06/2004 we (i and my colleagues) suffered an attack in our office...

Someone with a "Molotov Cocktail" broke a window and started a fire in the office that burned nearly everything....

BTW: our is a law office, so we belive that who did it is someone that we won a lawsuit against...

The point in posting this in this thread is to communicate to the people that i was helping with modding (like Kevin in the eclipse mod) that for the next month or so i will be too busy reconstituing important documents of the office and willbe unable to help...

My office computer literally "melted", and my entire game cd collection is now a hump of fused pLastic...

Happilly i have a "backup" of every cd at home, so i don´t lost the games, but i lost several original cds, like my original SEIV Gold cd, and some classics that i probably will not be able to replace, lime my original x-com 2: Terror From The Deep cd, or my original Simcity disks...

but, thank god, no one was hurt, and the losses are only material ones, and we have complete insurance...

sorry to bother you people, but i was a little sad and wished to share what i´m fellyn in this sad moment...

PS: i´ll try to keep up my PBW games, but if i lose a couple of turns, it´s because i´m too busy in the reconstruction. I´m playing at this moment the games: (Nearly Gods) The Conflict 5, Junkyard 24XX: Battlegrounds and Space Empires 101.

JY24XX has no auto-turns running, so as long as you don't keep us waiting more than three or four days a turn I'll hold off on running turns... knowing me I'll probably just end up waiting till you're available anyway http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

Your lucky, normally we just attempt to shoot our lawyers as they hide behind a tree next to the court house and in full view of six news media cameras and then later deny the attempt. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif

I am gald you are alright though. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif Buildings can be rebuilt, people can't.

That's rough, man. It is hard to believe that people can be so spiteful. It's good the damage wasn't more serious. Do what you need to, other stuff can wait.

You sure it wasnt a disgruntled employee whom was upset over the continued "borrowing" of his red swingline stapler?

(sorry, could not resist. apologies to those who miss the reference)

"For Sale: Hump of melted pLastic that used to be {list games here}."

You'd be amazed at some of the crap that gets sold on ebay, you should do it...

The police is already investigating... looks like the guy that torched the office left a glass vial (with some gasoline inside) near the scene of the crime, with fingerprints all over it...

So, with some hope, is only a qustion of time until we identify who dit it...

But the person that did it was probably only under orders of another person...

We have some suspects, 2 persons that we won big lawsuits against and a lawyer that we denouced for malpractice and unethical behavior with his own clients...

Man, I thought this sort of stuff only happened in John Grisham novels. Who knew being a lawyer would be so dangerous?

What sort of lawyer are you, Makinus? Criminal (angry convicted criminals), tax (angry tax cheaters), divorce (angry husbands/wives)...? Just curious. I don't know the proper names for the lawyers of different things, but I think you understand what I mean http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

btw. I'm happy you survived. Cheers!

Re: OT: Fire in the office

I mainly work with civil rights and tax defense, but in our office we have lawyers of every area except criminal, and we have a huge number of cases so it´s kind of hard to know who would want to attack us (there are too many suspects).

But, like i said earlier, we narrowed the case to 3 suspects, but we could be wrong, the police will probably discover more...

One of the suspects is really high in our list because Last week he threatened our client trying to make him desist from his lawsuit...

I work in a similar environment. I work in a probation office, and in my 10 years here, I'm surprised no one has tried anything like that. Either that, or pulling out a gun and start bLasting away. Some of these probation officers treat these people like scum ( some of them are, but there is still ways to deal with people without being rude and shouting at them), and I wouldn't be surprised if one of these days someone snaps and tries to do something to harm an officer or just the people in the office in general. You can't tell with some of them; most have been doing drugs most of their lives, so they're not the most stable people to deal with.

The big news today here in Australia is a Lawyer who hired a hitman to take out a witness for 300K. Maybe you should do the same http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif .

Edit: What I mean is take out the perpetrator so he doesn't get off lightly.
