Aliens Set The Standard

I just finished watching Aliens (thats number 2 in the series for you folks who don't know.) and I have to say that this movie has set the stand for Military Troops in space and ground combat.

Think about it, they have star ships, drop ships, attack vehicals, and ground troops. They have great weapondary and behave in a way and method that would more likely than not be how any military force would operate if left to develop a military platform for operations in space and on new planets.

LOL...as I mentioned in another related message, my wife and I got a great deal on the full set of 4 DVDs (which resulted in something like $9 each!) and we watched the whole series over again (a few weekends ago).

Yes, some good combat action in #2. Of course, sadly, the series got worse. Sigh...

Alien 3 and 4 were crap and should never have been made. They ruined the franchise with them.

Or it could've been Heinlein with Starship Troopers and their mobile infantry with dropships, power armor and stuff. Kinda like Air Cavalry before Vietnam.

I haven't seen Aliens in the 4 DVD set. Does it have the scene with the Sentry Guns bLasting away at the Aliens? I saw the movie origially in theaters and it wasn't there. Watched it on Video, wasn't there. Happened to catch it on TV once And There It Was! Love that scene...

<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">I didn't watch all the "extras" but the Alien DVD set has 8 discs in it. One for each movie and one extra for each movie (if you like the extras).

I wanna see Alien Vs Predator that's all I've got to say about the sequals beyond Aliens.

As for aliens I thought it was a little strange that maybe 20-30? marines needed such a HUGE ship as the Sulaco, well that and who was piloting that mother?

Anyway that's the only beef I've got with the Alien-Aliens movies, the ships are tooo dang big for such small crews and I think most people would consider it a waste of resources to give every single platoon of marines a Kilometer long ship don't you?

And you think Alien Ressurection was bad (i think thats number 4, or was it 3?) wait till you've seen it dubbed over in french!!! I was in paris in october and there it was lol. Ripley just doesn't sound the same in the "language of love" http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif

Well in the Alien book (not sure which has based on which) they were hauling an oil referinry and crude of all things with them. That was part of the reason the ship was that big.

<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">Never go by the novelizations of movies. Most of them are based on early scripts, and some changes they make in the movie script never makes it to the author. But as far as the Nostradamus, it was a refinery ship, and thus accounted for it's huge size.

As far as the military ship used in Aliens, I never gave it a thought until now. Since everyone in the ship was in suspended animation, it makes sense that the pilot was a computer. And the size of the ship probably meant that it was capable of carrying more than 2 dozen people. They just chose that squad for this particular mission. And I'm sure Paul Reiser's character didn't want too many soldiers wandering on the planet, lest they discover his secret. Too bad he didn't count on Ripley.

From what I read about the original script of Alien 3, it sounded like it would have made a decent movie. But with the fall of the Berlin Wall, some idiot decided we didn't need a reminder in the movie, and got Joss Wheedin (?) to rewrite the script. Thus you got the horror that was Alien 3. I've only seen it once, that was one too many times for me. As far as Alien Resurrection, I liked it a whole lot better than 3, but I still haven't made it the store to buy the dvd. I'll stick to the original 2 movies, and hopefully AVP will be as exciting as the original comic book series was.

Nostromo was a tug towing a refinery platform.

Tried to make a Colonial Marine costume for Halloween a few years ago. Used BMX armour and some of the less dorky bicycle helmets. Ended up looking like a Motocross Borg with a dorky bicycle helmet. So I went with the Borg label. Added a Tennis racket and I was Bjorn Borg.
I think the Aliens Colonial Marine look is one that I see alot of fiction stories and computer games that try to copy. Look at the soldiers in Halo. Heck even the real soldiers today look like they came off a movie set. I don't know what those "monacles" do but like all the soldiers in Iraq hav'em.
