Re: OMG!
I am sorry, but I had to modify the links name a bit. I hope you don't mind. PM if you have any questions, and yes indeed it is GREAT NEWS. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

Re: OMG!
Sorry, I didn't even think about it. I know the reason. Thanks for fixing it. It's just that I almost soiled myself watching the trailer...

Re: OMG!
Tis great news, GONE GOLD. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif I cannot wait to start killing me some baddies from that DOOMED place of hell.

Re: OMG!
Fantastic news!!
I can still remember playing the first level of the first Doom. I hope this one lives up to all our expectations. |
Re: OMG!
Hide this from me, it might affect se5 production.. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/tongue.gif
But really, I think this will be a great game to blow off some steem. I too remember the original Doom, and played way too many hours playing over the network at work. It did affect production back then, but we still managed to get out product out. (the slightly delayed product was called "Steel Panthers") So, again, I ask, please hide this info from me. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/tongue.gif Cheers! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif |
Re: OMG!
YOU WORKED ON STEEL PANTHERS AND YOU ARE WORKING ON SE5!!!!!
Mr. Gervais you have been added to the list of heros http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif |

Re: OMG!
Well, I just googled, and that seemed like the "official" site. Looks fine in Firefox 0.9.1...
Try anything else google brings up for "Steel Panthers" |
Re: OMG!
The frames issue seems to be realted to the window width. I am using IE 6, and it does not keep me from viewing or using the site, it just keeps things from lining up quite right, unless the window is just the right width.
(sorry for pulling off-thread-topic there, it's no real concern) |
Re: OMG!
Somewhat back on topic, can anyone recommend a video card that might be able to run this game (or, more specifically, X2: The Threat) for less that $200 or so? I'm expecting Last generation at most recent...

Just make sure your mobo can handle the newer card (check to see what Version of AGP port you have, 8x, 4x, or whatever) Links to NewEgg goodness: http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproduc...128-188&DEPA=1 http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproduc...122-183&DEPA=1 http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproduc...127-119&DEPA=1 http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproduc...153-011&DEPA=1 [ July 25, 2004, 03:45: Message edited by: Instar ] |
Re: OMG!
I got a GeForce FX 5900 for 199$ (plus taxes, ended up around 215$), it should more than be able to handle Doom3, upper-mid range.
I previously had a GeForce FX 5400, I think I got it for around 120$, and it was also pretty good. Only reason I upgraded is because UPS severely damaged the old computer in shipping. Should be able to pick one up for around 99$ now. |
Re: OMG!
My GeForce 4 Ti 4200 is already considered not good enough?
SIGH... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...s/rolleyes.gif I'm so sick of ever-increasing computer graphics nonsense. Bah! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/tongue.gif Well, more reason to stick with good games rather than pretty ones. PvK |
Re: OMG!
Actually a GF4 Ti would probably be fine. A Geforce 4 *MX* on the other hand, would not.
http://www2.hardocp.com/article.html?art=NjQy "As of this afternoon we were playing DOOM 3 on a 1.5GHz Pentium 4 box with a GeForce 4 MX440 video card and having a surprisingly good gaming experience. Even a subtle jump to an AMD 2500+ with a GeForce 3 video card that is two years old will deliver a solid gaming experience that will let you enjoy the game the way id Software designed it to be." EDIT: and right now if you want a graphics card new for $200 or so, the ATI 9800 Pro is the way to go. http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...142-009&depa=1 Note: the Pro, NOT the SE, NOT, the standard. Video card naming conventions are begining to piss me off, but in this case the Pro gives you a lot more performance for the price than most cards. Re: OMG!
If your into excellent First Person Shooters, (FPS), then check out this site: Off Site Location Some of the best in game graphics I have ever seen. And I am not alone, the game is regarded very highly amoung game players and reviewers. A lot of fun. Check out the demo.

Re: OMG!
Thanks for all the pointers and links.
My mobo may be a little underpowered; it has a 1.33 GHz Athlon Thunderbird CPU and it's a pre-DDR board. The max AGP it can support is 4x (it's an Abit KT7A). It looks like the Gainward would be the best board for me - I prefer NVidia's chipset (and drivers!) and the price is good. Now I wonder if my mainboard (with its slower RAM) will be the main chokepoint in my system... |
Re: OMG!
It's kinda cool they let it sit for the Last few months, then just spring it on us like this. I'm looking forward to trying it out, but I can't help shake the feeling it's not the Doom we grew up with. I mean, what other game allowed you to mow down hordes of bad guys with a chainsaw? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif
Now it's a bit more mano-a-mano, and even multiplayer is only 4 players. Of course, it's probably worth getting for the singleplayer game and incredible graphics engine alone. In related news, I got to play a few hours of Half-Life 2 about two weeks ago, and let me tell ya, it was AWESOME! Very immersive, and I spent a lot of time just playing with the physics (i.e., picking things up, throwing them, bumping them, etc.). The world is very alive, and all the other characters are doing something or another. Very cool. But of course, I may be biased since I haven't played Doom 3 yet. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif zen |
Re: OMG!
Wasn't there a guy with a chainsaw in one of the trailers? I seem to remember that. Or maybe those mushrooms I ate are starting to take effect...
