CD Music

Greets all. I've been a long time reader here, first time poster.

I was happy to get my copy of SE IV today (yay!). I was wondering if anyone was having trouble with the CD Music?

I have the CD Music On option On, yet I have no music. What's the deal? I have the other sounds, but no music. Now music isn't a must ofr this game of course, but i'd like the option of at least hearing it. Any ideas? Thanks.

Hi http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon7.gif

I hit F2 and went to Options, where I saw that CD Music was turned off. So I turned it on, exited back to the game, and still had no music. So I shrugged and went back to my game. 15 or 20 minutes later, the music suddenly started playing...

Re: CD Music

Sounds like a bug to me then. Anyone else have similiar experiences?

Thanks for the reply BTW!

Re: CD Music

I played the game for over 2 hours and the music never came on, despite the option being choosen. I tried running the CD through on the Windows CD player and the music, 15 tracks worth, plays fine there. It looks like there is an program error. Should I write Malfador or Shrapnel?

Thanks.

Hi there, hevenīt the game yet, but this
sounds funny because I had the same bug with
a swedish game (Europa Universalis; donīt buy). Most people had the same problem with
the sound turning on only after 10-15 minutes.
They fixed it with a patch. So I would recommend reporting it to Mal-Mac.

Re: CD Music

I had the same problem, except it never turned on at all. Didbn't realize it, though. I always have WinAmp playing in thee background, listening to my own music. Once I realized the bug, I went in and disabled the CD Music.

BTW, GREAT GAME! I draw comparisons to SMAC in that I always have time for one more turn. Addictive as hell, deep and challenging. I hope it gets the recognition it deserves.

Whats wrong with europe universalis a lot of people think its a good game.

Re: CD Music

BTW the actual game music files won't be found on the CD as files. The CD is a multi-session CD and the music is actually burnt into several tracks like a regular music CD.

So if you don't find music files on the CD that does not mean you have a bad CD.

Re: CD Music

Interesting point, Richard. I just checked, and Winamp does not see the music on the CD at all.

HOWEVER, CDEX, an MP3 ripper (cough, cough) *does* see the music tracks on the CD, and its built-in player plays them fine.

Bottom line here: I have no complaints at all! http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon7.gif

Hi Ashberry,

how many of those people who say it is a good game have already played it ?
I have bought my copy directly from the german publisher and started playing it directly on release day. Now it is lying somewhere on the floor. If you are interested I can specify what I donīt like.

Greetings

You bought a copy of our game from a German Publisher?

If you did then it is pirated, we have no German publisher.

I think though I am not completely sure that Ferendra was talking about the other program Europa Univeraalis. At least that is how I understood the thread.

Guys, if you want to listen to CD music, its easy;

turn off sound in the game
run windows cd player and play the stuff...

Re: CD Music

I'd prefer for it to work on its own like its supposed to, Pendragon. http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon7.gif

Re: CD Music

It works just fine on my system without the CD player.

You may want to check your setup and if that fails email Malfador.

For people experiencing music not playing:

Do you have multiple CD Rom drives?
Is the SE4 CD in the first drive?

Re: CD Music

Aaron,

This bug has been present since the .99 demo code. I only have the demo and it happends for me.

Its a bit strange because some of the time it works fine.

I noticed because when I first booted up the demo it started to play the music from the CD I had in the drive.

However sometimes the music just stops playing...Also sometimes it comes back to life after a long period of time...then it can die again.

Wierd.

I only have 1 cd drive.

I have one CD drive.

Demo 0.99 played music from Age of Empires CD if it was in drive.

Full Version is playing music from CD fine for me so far. But that's about 1 hour so far.

I have yet to hear any music + I have only 1 CDRom drive (Plextor 32x)

The other game sounds work fine

Re: CD Music

The CD music does not play in-game for me. (I can play it fine from the Windows CD player).

I have one CR-ROM and also a CD-RW in my system (drives H: and I:,respectively). The game was installed from H: (the CD-ROM), and the disk remains in it. H: is the first CD drive in my system (C: - G: are disk partitions)

Re: CD Music

Single CD ROM (removed the CDR before install) and cannot get music.

Re: CD Music

No music, in over five hours. One CD drive. Then I took the CD out, and got an access violation. Had to replay the whole turn. Waaaaaa http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/ima...ons/icon12.gif

Don't care. Don't want music. Listen to my own. Great game without that new-age rummage. Love it. Keep up the good work.

No music here either. One CD player, no background media players running. Can't see music tracks on cd even when trying to read them with a audio cdr.

Are they shipping out the first batch to us Europeans?

Re: CD Music

I too don't get music in game, so I had to open Windows' CD player. This works fine, but having to skip to the second track whenever the CD ends (1st track is the game data) gets a little annoying. I like the music though, and I'm not a fan of techno-ish stuff (I listen to death/heavy/war metal).

I keep waiting for some C&W to be put on a track. I'm not holding my breath, though.

OT reply: If you want CW in an addicting computer game, try Railroad Tycoon II.

Well, it's not really CW ... more like country-jazz ... I've been known to boot this program for the music alone. Top-notch harmonica/banjo/guitar riffs throughout.

Re: CD Music

Same problem as everyone else.(Windows ME) No music in the game. However the demo would play music with any audio cd in the drive. Like everyone I am using Windoze Media Player to play the music during the game. I also installed the game in Windows NT Workstation and it works as it should, like a charm. Odd.
