Seeking players for international PBEM game
Hello!
In another thread we have already started recruiting players for a simultaneous movement PBEM game. This is the new thread for getting the game underway. So far we have a few people interested to join (Ferendra, Regul, Spacebas, myself, maybe some others). So please post here if you want to join. Also there are no settings agreed upon yet. My suggestion would be a game started with low tech and low race points (perhaps 2000, or maybe 3000). The other settings are to be determined. So please feel free to discuss. As for the number of players I think about 8-12 should be ok. I am looking forward to hearing from you. Cheers, Dime |

Re: Seeking players for international PBEM game
Hi all,
so far it looks like we have the following players: Ferendra Regul Spacebas Jochen SirDarwin ShadeD1 Galina greghacke myself Not too much more room now. Ferendra: The way those games work is described in the HTML manual. Basically we agree on the settings, especially the race points. Then you make your races and send me the *.emp files (preferably zipped). I will put the game together and send out the *.gam file to all players. Of course any custom race files will have to be submitted to me and distributed to everybody with the first turn files. After playing your turn I need the resulting orders file. Then I can generate the next turn and everything starts again. Sorry for the long paragraph... http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/ima...ons/icon12.gif As for the time for each turn I suggest one turn per day. Turn generation time would be sometime in the evening, perhaps at 19:00 (GMT+1). My email address should be displayed now, so please send me a short mail to secure your place in the game. See you soon at a warp point near you... Dime |
Re: Seeking players for international PBEM game
Hmm, the thing with the email address did not work as I intended.
Here it is: cmergler@wue.cybersurf.de |
Re: Seeking players for international PBEM game
I will gladly play. Unfortunately, I will not be available to send in an empire until Dec 9th. If the game has not started by then, count me in.

Re: Seeking players for international PBEM game
Greetings Competitors... :-)
Since our game seems to be nearly full and going to start very soon i would like to make a game setting suggestion. Quadrant Type: Spiral Arm/Ancient Quadrant Size: Large General: All players planets the same size Event Frequency: Medium Max Event Severity: High Tech Cost: Medium, All areas allowed Player Settings! Start Resources: Medium (20.000) Home Planet Value: Medium Number of starting planets: 3 Empire placement: Evenly distributed throug the quadrant Score display:Player can only view all allied plyers Tech level for new players: medium Racial points for new player: 2000 Points Game settings! Max number of units p. player: 500 Max number of ships p. pl. : 1000 Mechanics: Simultaneous movement Game Version: 1.11 seems to be newest All discussable of course :-), but these settings might give a short jump start, while the 2000P limit does prevent to create 'monster-races' instead you cut other aspects. If all agree then i would ask Dime to call for the *.emp files till the weekend so we could start out till sunday probably. One bug we encountered due Pbem-testing, the game directory must be on the C-drive to have all create the same dir. Otherwise SE4 does not allow to save your orders correctly. Hope to 'meat' you in space sooner then later... R* |
Re: Seeking players for international PBEM game
Ok, I have a 2000 pt EMP file. I'm ready to start. Does Saturday, 2 DEC 2000 appear to be a good day for kickoff? turn all files into DIME no later than Thursday, 31 NOV 2000 for colation and beginnings?

Re: Seeking players for international PBEM game

Re: Seeking players for international PBEM game
Hello people,
looks like our ranks have pretty much filled up by now. I am still waiting for confirmation emails from Ferendra, Jochen, SirDarwin and ShadeD1. Greg, please send me your email address, too. So far confirmed are Regul, Galina, greghacke (I need that email!), David Little, spacebas (David), garvoid (Jim), thecyclemania (Tom), and myself. http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon7.gif Well, looks like recruiting is closed now. We are already eight players, 12 with the 'slow ones' http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/ima...ons/tongue.gif , so this should be enough for a decent game. My proposal for game settings is much like Regul already posted, except for some small modifications... Quadrant Type: Midlife (alternative: Cluster or Spiral Arm) Quadrant Size: Large General Options: All players planets the same size Event Frequency: Medium Maximum Event Severity: Catastrophic Technology Cost: Medium Technology Areas Allowed: All Starting Resources: Medium (20000) Home Planet Value: Good Number of Starting Planets: 1 Empire Placement: Evenly distributed through the quadrant Score display: Player can only view own score Technology Level for New Player: Low Racial Points for New Players: Low (2000) No Computer Players Maximum number of units allowed per player (in space): 1000 Maximum number of ships allowed per player: 1000 Allow Gifts\Tributes Allow Technology Gifts\Tributes\Trades Simultaneous Movement Autosave Every Turn Victory Conditions: ? (Please make suggestions, else we have to fight to the Last race standing!) Game Version: 1.11 (current) Turn Generation: Daily If we happen to be less than 12 players we could probably put in some AI players, but with a dozen humans the galaxy will be pretty crowded anyway... http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/ima...ons/icon12.gif See you soon, Dime |
Re: Seeking players for international PBEM game
I'd like to make some suggestions for game settings that may be different from what is proposed:
-Number of Systems = [10 * # of Players] (Edit the Settings.txt file to insure a good volume) -Quad Type: Spiral Arm (Most diversity of planet types) - No Computer Players (regardless of how many players are in, no neutrals or enemy AI empires) -Victory Conditions: -Peace: 2.5 years (25 turns) -Victory conditions only apply after: 2.5 years (25 turns) -Game Version: 1.11 with NO edited technology, just play as it stands. Oh, and my e-mail is (drum-roll) greghacke@columbus.rr.com |

Re: Seeking players for international PBEM game
Hi,
Ferendra: you have Dime's Email-adress so why don't you ask directly or take some time and read your Online manual? :-) Same as every Pbem pc game works...you send your race file, get the game file, send your orders, get your game file aso. ... does this help? *eg* In general, just send your 2000P limited race file (*.emp) attached to Dime's adress and await the return with the how to's. Game Settings: To edit the settings.txt file 'might' get a problem with a bug in the process as no one has tested a multiplayer with it till the end, did you? So my vote therefore is against for this first game. The Spiral Arm Galaxy has also my favor, but i would even not be dissappointed with Midlife. Cluster i do not like...(tiny little boxes in a row...brrrr...and bad bad warriors waiting on the other side of the gate) My only real exception would be the 'score display' as i certainly like to compare my score with my allies, not my enemys of course. :-) All other is fine to me, 1 huge planet instead of 3 normal as jump start seems quite fair...only 'Maximum Event Severity: Catastrophic' is stressing my brain -> who will be the one who's home system will encounter a supernova...he he he...good luck to you all! My race style is allready sent out to Dime and i look forward to get the game file till friday/saturday if all send in their racefile. R* |
Re: Seeking players for international PBEM game
Ja, Ja Mr. Regul,
I know I should have read the manual, actually I enjoy reading manuals (boardgame or PC-game), but I have been busy the Last few days. I will send my race to Dime Thanks Ferendra |

Re: Seeking players for international PBEM game
Hi all,
looks like it is time to set a deadline for starting the game, preferably as soon as possible. How do you feel about this weekend? Thecyclemania may be able to send me his race file on Sunday (Monday latest), so I would like to start as soon as it is in. All players are encouraged to send in their *.emp file as soon as possible. So far I have received the files from Greg, Regul, Galina, Ferendra, Garvoid (Jim) and spacebas (David). Looks like we will be about a dozen players, so I think we should go without computer empires. Regarding the game settings Greg made some good points I wish to add here: -Number of Systems = [10 * # of Players] While I think it is a good idea which would give us a bit of breathing space before the fur begins to fly, I feel a bit concerned about possible stability problems if fiddling at the wrong point (Regul voiced this and I think he has a point there). I will take a look at the number of players and the number of systems in that file, but I think we can live with it if there are only 8 systems per player or so, too. -Quad Type: Spiral Arm (Most diversity of planet types) Fine with me, so far the most voices preferred this one (actually I see only two Posts, Regul's and Greg's, and both agree there). - No Computer Players (regardless of how many players are in, no neutrals or enemy AI empires) As I wrote above I think adding them would be a bit too much anyway. We have enough players in the game as it is. -Victory Conditions: -Peace: 2.5 years (25 turns) -Victory conditions only apply after: 2.5 years (25 turns) This is the only suggestion for Victory Conditions that I received, so if there are no objections they will stand. -Game Version: 1.11 with NO edited technology, just play as it stands. Actually I took it for granted that we play without edited stuff, but to make it clear: Only the 'official' components and stuff. Since the AI will take over in case of missed turn submissions I think we should allow custom AI scripts (those nifty text files) for the player empires (of course only for everyone's own empire). These fall under race generation as I see it. Hmmm, there is still the question about visibility of scores during the game (only own, own and allied, all). Any voices about this? So far there is Regul's opinion (own and allied) and mine (only own score). Any more votes? Well, my hand feels a bit cramped now, so I better stop abusing my keyboard... Cheers, Dime [This message has been edited by Dime Greenback (edited 01 December 2000).] |
Re: Seeking players for international PBEM game
Ferendra:
Alles roger, kannst gerne auch in Deutsch schreiben...kann ich besser als Englisch... http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon7.gif Game: I vote to start Saturday, latest Sunday. So please send in your racefiles (*.emp) asap to get you included. So far i count 7 players what should be quite ok for a multiplayer. R* |
Re: Seeking players for international PBEM game
Dime wrote:
> -Victory Conditions: > -Peace: 2.5 years (25 turns) > -Victory conditions only apply after: 2.5 > years (25 turns) So does this mean that the game could end on turn 26 if there are no battles? Or does it start counting peaceful turns at turn 26, meaning turn 50 is the first turn victory conditions could apply? If we are very evenly spread out and we all prefer to hold off on conflict till our navies are strong, we could conceivably go 26 turns w/o a battle. Unlikely sure, but i'd hate to waste 26 days only to have the game end before it starts. Perhaps we should lengthen the time that peace must exist. spacebas [This message has been edited by spacebas (edited 02 December 2000).] [This message has been edited by spacebas (edited 02 December 2000).] |
Re: Seeking players for international PBEM game
it would mean (b) it won't start counting turns/years related to victory until turn 26. the game cannot end before turn 50, and if we get to that point (let alone turn 25) "war free," i'll be shocked...
