Anyone up for a PBEM game?

Because lack of experience, I don´t want to host. You should also know that I´m from Sweden, so there could be a huge time differential. Anyone?

Who ever does run a PBEM game I recommend not using simultanous mode.

I have to disagree, Seawolf. I do a lot of PBEM's ( EFS ) and wish it had the capacity for simultaneous mode. For strategy games, turn based PBEM is slow and players quickly lose interest. And this is with only 5 players. I cannot imagine it with 8 or 10. At least with decent players and a 24 hour rule, you can get the turns out fairly fast.

I am planning to start a simul-turn PBEM game in a couple of weeks. If there are any game-killing bugs in simultaneous mode, perhaps they will be patched by then. I will post to this Forum and perhaps a newsgroup or two when I am ready.

Speaking of newsGroups, is there one for SE? I've found the Stars! newsgroup, but no Space Empires newsgroup.

I haven't pbem'd for a while. Do the free internet disk drives make the procedure any easier these days or is it still the poor hosts email accountant who will absorb the load?

Comar, what's EFS?

Leoric, Jag är också från Sverige, Linköping närmare bestämt. Kul att se en landsman här.

Translation for the less fortunate (non-swedes, hehe):

Leoric, I'm also from Sweden, Linköping to be more precise. Nice to see a fellow countryman here.

Emperor of the Fading Suns. It's a strategic RPG about 5 or 6 years old. Still a lot of fun.

Re: Anyone up for a PBEM game?

Greetings Competitors... :-)

Since our game seems to be nearly full and going to start very soon i would like to make a game setting suggestion.

Quadrant Type: Spiral Arm/Ancient
Quadrant Size: Large
General: All players planets the same size
Event Frequency: Medium
Max Event Severity: High
Tech Cost: Medium, All areas allowed

Player Settings!

Start Resources: Medium (20.000)
Home Planet Value: Medium
Number of starting planets: 3
Empire placement: Evenly distributed throug the quadrant
Score display:Player can only view all allied plyers
Tech level for new players: medium
Racial points for new player: 2000 Points

Game settings!

Max number of units p. player: 500
Max number of ships p. pl. : 1000
Mechanics: Simultaneous movement

Game Version: 1.11 seems to be newest

All discussable of course :-), but these settings might give a short jump start, while the 2000P limit does prevent to create 'monster-races' instead you cut other aspects.

If all agree then i would ask Dime to call for the *.emp files till the weekend so we could start out till sunday probably.

One bug we encountered due Pbem-testing, the game directory must be on the C-drive to have all create the same dir. Otherwise SE4 does not allow to save your orders correctly.

Hope to 'meat' you in space sooner then later...
