possible bug: refitting multiple ships in multiplayer

In a multiplayer game, I had 3 ships that I wanted to refit to a newer design. So I went through the process of refitting to the new design but on the next turn, only 1 of them was refitted.

Anybody else saw this behavior ?

Why weren't the 3 ships refitted all at once. This is particularly frustrating since I have multiple base shipyard to repair the components to the new design.

Also, I've seen weird behavior when I combine load orders with move orders.
With colony ship, I give it the order to load population from the planet and then choose a planet to move to. On the next turn, the colony ship loads the population but doesn't move. The following turn, it will start to move towards its target.

Why is this ? Loading population (or any cargo) takes a full turn ???

Need some feedback here...

I'm not sure about the things taking more then one turn, but I've noticed that if you turn on the AI ministers (I do this at the begining before I conquer another atmosphere breating people) to move your population around it takes one turn to load, one turn to move, one turn to unload, and one turn to return to pick up more. where as how I had the ship set I could do it 3 times manually.

I've also noticed the "bug?" when trying to refit more than one ship at a time. It also seems to occur w/ scrapping, if i remember right.

The pop-up message for a failed refit looks just the same as a success message. Are you sure you didn't just click on the failure message and continue on, expecting it to be a success message? http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon7.gif Maybe these boxes ought to be a different color...

Remember, the new design can not cost more than 50 percent over the design being upgraded, and you need to have enough of every type of resource on hand to pay for it.

I've retro' multiple ships at least a dozen times without any problems. If you can recreate the failure, saved game and send it in.

I saw that retrofit bug alot with th 0.99 demo. Don't tell me it's still there in 1.19?

I noticed this problem in one game I was playing. However I noticed it in a simultaneous game. Were these problems in a simultaneous game. This really should be noted in all bug reports since I think the two styles work a little differently.

Thanks for the feedback.

This is a simultaneous game.
The refit in question does not cost more than 50% since I am just upgrading direct firect weapons to the new level I achieved.

I can recreate this bug every frigging turn. I am losing turns that my ships could do something else.

I will send it in to Aaron

One suggestion that I thought about but have not tried.

Try to upgrade each ship individually. Open the retrofit window and retorfit one. Then close it down and reopen to refit the next one. This might be a work around to make it work. Its possible that the problem is that the program only sees only one refit each time the screen is opened. Since the rules work differently from turn-based

Worth a try, even though it is more work, I think.

I think I _may_ have cracked this one. Granted, it is just a solo simturn game (practacing up for PBW), but it should function the same, right?

Ok. The problem I was having was that ships in a fleet weren't getting the retrofit orders correctly. Instead of all the ship in the fleet I earmark for retrofit, only the _first_ earmarked ship in the fleet got retroed. So I tried taking all but one ship out of the fleet and then retroing. So far, it seems to be working without a hitch.

Just my overpriced $0.02

Yes, that's the way I do it, too.

I got several Messages that the refit failed because it was the same design before I figured this out.

Wouldn't it be a lot less work to just take the ship(s) to be retrofitted out of the fleet? That's how I always do it.

you are correct, rollo

Re: possible bug: refitting multiple ships in multiplayer

Yesp that's what I always do too, I even thought that none of the ships in a fleet could be retrofitted.
(no idea why though, it causes unnecssary extra mouseclick work).

Re: possible bug: refitting multiple ships in multiplayer

Dragonlord:
No, I know for a fact that ships in a fleet _do_ get retroed. I think that capnq is correct in his observations that the program tries to retrofit the first ship in the fleet, and I think _only_ the first ship in the fleet. Its almost as if the treats a fleet as just another ship. If any ship in the fleet was tagged, it thought the fleet was tagged. So it did one retrofit for the one tag it saw: the fleet.

I hope you understood what I'm trying to communicate here. It's a little tolate at night to be thinking coherantly. Or spelling correctly. http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/ima...ons/icon12.gif
